It will be amazing!!!! this is 10 days after my birthday, but I am celebrating All month long!!!!!!!!!!!
I have never been to Vermont. $330 round trip from Louisville to Burlington...
Now I am confused. It says Midway LAWN. However, they do have a big stage with seats and such also on the property. The big stage might not be GA. I needs me some GA.
just noticed it says chairs and blankets are ok. they wouldnt say that if there were already chairs to sit in 8-)
2 and 1/2 hour drive from johnnYYac's house! Right up I-89! :D
This is a seating chart for the Expo Center. I'm not finding info on a LAWN setup.
we'll find out tomorrow. presale tickets go on sale at 11. (which is why im kinda surprised this hasnt been officially announced yet)
I miss Vermont. I'm already heading upto NE this summer, so this show is out.
Calling it: New York City show around 8/23.
Glad to see the east coast gettin' some love! Now they just gotta announce some midwest dates...or a couple dates together so's we can follow 'em on a mini-tour... ;D

Dunno if this is a gamechanger or not.... Petty 8/19, VT 8/20, Petty 8/21 !??!
Can this old body take it? Can the wallet take it? Can the wife take it?
Something's gotta give!

are you a big petty fan? if not, i'd skip one of the petty shows. i'm a huge wilco fan, and i saw them open for neil young. if i had gone for wilco i would have been severely disappointed.
"Located at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction, the Midway Lawn is a new venue that culminates a beautiful grassy lawn flanked by mature trees, landscaping, and a view of the Green Mountains."
I think that stage is a completely different venue on the same property.

heck yes!
bit of a drive but totally doable. i went to school not too far from there (only for a year) & haven't been back in ages. love it up there - beautiful country. seeing mmj there would be all sorts of awesome!
Gurlington is only the second best city in New England, next to Portland of course! Summer shows in btown rule, usually good weather, very nice peeps and healthy, beautiful women. Make sure you check out the Church St. Market and Full Tank for all your necessities!

totally! not too long ago, some of us (myself included) were wishing/hoping/praying/
begging for them to add some northeast dates. boy did we get spoiled! woo-hoo!!!
i want to go to all of 'em! the angel on my right shoulder tells me, "that would be finacially irresponsible." however, the devil on my left shoulder says, "you can't take it with you. life is for living!"
decisions, decisions...
Got 2 Tix!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who else??
QuoteGot 2 Tix!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who else??
me too!!!
where are people staying? i haven't even looked into lodging ;D
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
We will figure all those details out!!!!
Got my tickets. I've got a gang of at least 5 peeps coming to the show so I think we're gonna look into camping and whatnot.
CAN'T WAIT

The Higher Ground site had a link to a phone # of a Best Western in S. Burlington. If you mention the site they offer a HG discount. It's $127.49 for Friday night but also about 20 minutes away. I'm looking to stay a bit closer if possible.
Still searching. I'll post what I find. It doesn't look like there's much, if anything in Essex Jct.
hmm, camping might be an option. i'd be down with that but i'm not sure who, if anyone, is coming with me & whether that person is "camping friendly" or not.
EDIT: slim pickings on hote options, but this might work:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g57257-d665207-Reviews-Handy_Suites-Essex_Junction_Vermont.html
any thoughts? i would like to point out that there is, apparently, a water slide @ the pool. excellent for kids of all ages!
EDIT TAKE 2: i searched the above hotel on hotels.com, priceline, orbitz, etc and none have rooms available for that weekend. but i called the hotel directly & it's $139/night: double occupancy rooms have 1 bed (queen, i think) & a pullout sofa. "2 rooms" sofabed is in living room. indoor heated pool (w/ slide!) & complimentary breakfast.
i also called the # for camping info but got the machine, awaiting a call back.
The Higher Ground site is saying tix are unavailable. Am i too late for today's pre-sale?
QuoteThe Higher Ground site is saying tix are unavailable. Am i too late for today's pre-sale?
nope. there's a box toward the bottom left for the presale password. once you enter the password, the page auto-refreshes & tickets are available for purchase.

Spelling dondante correctly did give me access to tickets!

a guy from the campground called me back but said they don't do tent sites there. he asked what the event was & i told him "my morning jacket" and he was like "what's that? i've never heard of them" ::) but then was kind enough to refer me to north beach camping grounds in burlington. had a looksee on their site & they do have tent sites and the price for 2009 was $25/night. it's about 8 or 9 miles from the venue (15-20 mins).
ooooooooooooh camping on the beach eh? could be pretty sweet!
no tent sites?? balls. this throws a wrench into my very premature plans haha
Quoteooooooooooooh camping on the beach eh? could be pretty sweet!
haven't been camping in a loooong time, but, it looks real nice & the price is certainly real nice...

hmmmmm interesting indeed! i think 8bobbyb is likin this idea.....the price is right, that's for sure!
sis is less than lukewarm on the camping idea but said she'd do it (IF she can even make this show). personally, i'd prefer to camp. it'd be easier on the wallet for turning this into a full weekend trip; which i would LOVE to do.
i can't wait to get back up there - this is gonna be awesome on so many levels :)
I'd love to pitch a tent with you, but might end up driving back home after the show. I know my wife would appreciate having me around in the morning to help with the kids before we hit the road for the MMJ/Petty show that afternoon. So I'll need everyone's help making sure I don't drink too much. ;)

haha, you're probably right on that! i will do my best but cannot promise to be a good influence :-/
i sure sure hope you're going to dazzle us with your sick 'chord skillz!
WOOHOO!!
Tix came in the mail today, and it's sure nice to see a REAL ticket for a change, and not those damn ugly Ticketmaster ones.
Nice job by Front Gate Tix on these. 8-)
Aren't they sweet lookin tix???
Now I'm all curious...what do they look like?
QuoteNow I'm all curious...what do they look like?
They're kind of old school looking concert tix. Yellow with MY MORNING JACKET in 1/4 - 3/8 inch bold black letters. Nice hologram on one end of ticket and perforated/tear away stub on other end.
Not in the class of the Dead mail-orders from back in the day, but still pretty damn nice....especially compared to the generic TM/LN tix we're used to seeing.
My 1st reaction was " Now that's a concert ticket'!

Glad you like them too.
I'm just so used to seeing those blah Ticketmaster ones, that when I opened the envelope I was pleasantly surprised.
I usually get a little rush when any concert tix arrive, but these tix gave me an even bigger one! Thought I had to post about how cool I thought they were.
I'm thinking of starting a new thread on cool ticket stubs, either cool looking tickets or tickets to cool shows, sometimes both. First, I'll need to go digging.

I think the best I've ever seen were the mail-order Dead tix I mentioned earlier.
Each show was a different design( dancing bears, skeletons, roses etc) and size with raised lettering, holograms, sparkles and other real cool looking stuff.
It was always a blast when they came in the mail. We'd sit around hitting up a bong, checking them out and going back and forth about which one was the best. 8-)
The next best for me were the tix to Madison Square Garden before the renovation. Back then each level of seats were a different color. Red being the 1st level off the floor, then orange, yellow, green, and the balcony were blue. Your tix were printed on stock that matched your seats.
It was always "I got reds!" or "f*cking blues, damnit"!
I'll always remember opening the envelope and being a bit bummed at getting greens for Zep...but a low row and close to the stage so I got over that real quick. Especially when I found out almost all my friends got shut out!
i think most of mine are the boring ticketmaster ones. i didn't really get into the dead til after my freshman year of college & as a result of that only got to see 'em once just before jerry passed on :(
i've got a photo album with my ticket stubs (whatever ones made it out alive) so i'll have a look see. but i'm pretty sure i won't find too many non-generic ones. it'll be fun to look back on all my shows tho.
love the idea for your thread johnnYY & will post there if i have any cool ones.
so i'm still curious about this venue. tried finding some reviews of the recent primus show there to see what people were saying. i couldnt find much. there's this:
"It was the first time I'd been to the new concert configuration presented by Higher Ground, with a stage on the midway rather than putting folks in the more staid grandstand. It's a great set-up, with the fried-dough cart and Al's French Frys open for business, a beer-and-wine garden off to the side and the restrooms (instead of portable toilettes as in Higher Ground's shows at the Shelburne Museum) already in place for fairgoers and such. It felt much more like a festival than a laid-back lawn show a la Shelburne Museum, so I dug it." -Brent Hallenbeck
also, on the primus forum, some dude said that the vt pit sucked. not sure if he meant fan energy or the literal pit. probly the fans. BUT i'm sure the mmj fans will bring it, as always.
