Title: MILE HIGH WEBCAST TONIGHT!
Post by: Seeker on Aug 15, 2010, 04:18 PM
The fact this show is being web cast at 5:45 MDT tonight deserves its own subject line to ensure people see it

it was green and blurry when it first started.  I hope their servers are strong.  they're going to get hit hard tonight.

I've tried recording this stream to no avail.  Freecorder 4 won't pick it up (Adobe Flash Player 10).  Debut Video Capture software is picture only, no audio.   Camtasia records video AND audio, but only allows you to save it as a .camrec file, which can only be played in Camtasia.  I can record audio no problem, but capturing the full video and audio stream isn't working.  Any ideas?

running into the same problem.  what we need is the video source link but I don't know what it is.  tried a couple things but it's not working.

I tried to see if webcapture issues were being discussed on DMB board and saw nothing, but maybe I don't know where to look....

I'll probably do an audio stream recording and try the Camtasia for video.  I've got some leads on converting .camrec files into .avi files.  Otherwise, we'll just have to accept it as a one-shot deal.  Looking forward to going to Mile High with everyone.  I'd suggest a chat but that would screw with my recording attempts, so...

Hibiscus flowers represent giant gas clouds called nebulae. These are where stars are formed. They are among the most gorgeous objects in the sky and their similarity to floral forms was what inspired the original galaxy garden concept.

I'm hoping johnny and the gang got a good pull, I only have a partial audio but that circuital (sp?) sounded really nice compared to the other versions, very weird reception from the crowd tho.  Steam Engine was a def a time doesn't exist moment this evening.  Can't wait to hear back from mr. walters about his journey.

Tonight I Want To Celebrate With You
Gideon
Anytime
Mahgeetah
Circuital
Golden
Touch Me Part 1
Highly Suspicious
I'm Amazed
Smokin' From Shootin'
Middle(!) of Run Thru
Touch Me Part 2
Wordless Chorus
Off The Record
Steam Engine

Whew!  I was recording the video and it quit after the first tune (free version limits vids to about 5 min.).  I quickly recovered and got all but the first tune on video, but will have trouble converting it to share, so be patient.

Ran Freecorder 4 for audio.  Only glitch was when the video recording fucked up after Tonight IWTCWY.  Its one mp3 file, so someone PM me or email me with how to chop it up.  Sticky, maybe I'll just send it to you, so you can slice and dice like you did for the Newport show.

Great set. 15 1/2 songs in about 90 minutes.  Steam Engine- thar she blows!  My white whale breaches to torment me again!  ARGHH!  But I love her so!

Wish I could have joined the chats and forum roundtable.  Hopefully this pays off.

Goodnight.

I've got all but the first song on video, converted to .mp4 and uploading to Megaupload as I type this, around 390 MB.  I'll post a link soon.

Audio is in three segments, mp3, that I'm converting to wav to try and create tracks.  Might not get it all done today, though.  I've got the in-laws here trying to clean my house.  Its nice, but...

If anyone could send/post the complete (preferably one long file) of the webcast I will happily mix it with my AUD source. The SBD would be nice to mix in because the front (where I was) was loading up with DMB fans, and since Dave isn't in MMJ they didn't seem to give a shit about the music (at least the people around me).

Sound at the beginning of the set left a little bit to be desired. Pretty quiet, and was being blown around by the wind.

Thanks!

I'll post the three .wav files I have.  Maybe someone can make tracks, as I am pretty busy right now and won't get to it for another day or two.  Just please post the result.  The sound was recorded from the video stream using Freecorder 4.  The sound peaked during Circuital, then came down again, so there's a boost for about 1.5 songs.

Stay tuned...

I'm a DMB diehard who loves MMJ. I kept referring to MHMF as "The Day I See DMB and MMJ," if that gives you any idea.  :)

I was disappointed there wasn't a stronger reaction for Jacket, although, by the same token, I was pleased to see a number of people around me knew some of the words.

You're right TEO.  Thanks for spoiling the only part about Train that I was enjoying. ;) :'(

That's funny!

I'm glad you guys had a good time. I know TGMC and I did. We did have to step over DMB fans to get close. The two DMB fans by us ended up being really nice, even after I talked a little junk right off the bat.

Oh, I got a picture with Jim. I'm waiting for TGMC to send it to me, and then I'll be in the select club!

Welcome to the club! ;D ;D

have a fun trip duder?  were you up close with your arms raised up eating ribs? if so, I think I saw you.

Haha, yeah I wish I could've had some ribs. The beers were $10, so I had to choose eat or drink? It was an easy choice.

The trip to Colorado was awesome. Thursday and Friday we were in Fort Collins. We went to the Odell's brewery and New Belgium. Both were awesome. If anyone has a chance to hit up the New Belgium brewery tour, it's a must see. Easily the best brewery tour I have ever been on. You drink the whole way through the 90min tour, go down a slide, and drink the whole way through! Ran into an insider who told me which hotel The Jacket was staying at, but I didn't stalk...thought about it  ;)

Saturday we went to Red Rocks. That was nice to just spend day there and hike around. There was a Mini (Winnie) Copper gathering there for some reason. Went to the Rockies game later that night. I got ripped on for my A's hat, but it was all in good fun. The weather was perfect. Milwaukee won, so I was cool with that.

Sunday. Well that was just the highlight of the trip. It was sweet to hang out with another forum member and his friends. The Jacket was great, as you guys were able to see! Although one of the cameras pretty much cut off my vision to Snowy Broemel. Train of course ripped it as usually. Meet Virginia was on point. But their slowed down version of Drops of Jupiter was a special treat for a special day!  ;)  ;D

I'll be posting some pictures sometime. Especially the one with me and Jim!

Does anyone mind if I make some MP3's and post them on The Steam Engine?

I wanted to ask since the text file with the download asks not to. Thanks!

I'm still downloading the two files coldengrey12 put up.  Text file?  If he made these from the wav files I provided, I don't believe you have anything to worry about.  You know you have my permission.

So, if I have this right, the lineage for these audio files is:

webcast > 3 .mp3 files > .wav file > slice and dice > more mp3 files > flac files

?

Yeah, I was trying to make it look all cool and torrent-y, so I copy/pasted another torrent's info and built mine off of that. I wasn't sure how you felt about it and I have strong feelings on the subject.

I did not convert to MP3 for this reason. I saved wavs and converted them into FLACs.

Looks silly when you lay it all out like that.  Freecorder records any sounds coming from your sound card as mp3.  I converted it to wav, as  I understood wav files to be more useful for editing purposes.  After that...

Thanks for doing this, coldengrey12.  I only got as far as stitching the three files together in Audacity.

I'm not sure what you meant by the statement highlighted above, but as the guy who recorded this show (audio and video capture), I want everyone to share this in any and every way they can.  Jason at The Steam Engine is a super stand up dude who will take a warning not to share seriously as he respects other people's work.  So I think the statement on the text file is misleading/confusing.

It wasn't my best work, this webcast, with a video capture saftware failure 2 minutes into Tonight that caused me to lose that song on the video and to chop the audio mid-song.  I doubt anyone could "sell" this.

So SHARE, SHARE, SHARE to your heart's content!!!

I wasn't trying to be judgmental about the recording, so I apologize if I came off that way.  I appreciate your efforts in recording this webcast.

The only reason I was asking about the lineage is that I took a stab at recording the audio from the webcast as well.  I just used audacity to record the audio into a high quality format.  From there I can convert to .wav or any number of other formats.  The thing that is giving me fits is the volume spike during Circuital.  I would like to make it all flow at one smooth volume level.  I'm going to need more time to figure it out, as I am not a sound engineer.

I'm impressed with the way the recording came out.  I was watching Train being broadcast right before MMJ and there were so many pops and dropouts in the audio.  I was fearing  that the sound on MMJ would have the same problems, but thankfully, it didn't.  I don't recall a single dropout during their performance.

Anyway, I'll try to keep working on it and see what I can come up with.

Its all good, bmc.  Still, as an old Deadhead, I know a recording is best when least removed from the original source recording.  If you'll excuse the expression, this whore's been through quite the gangbang (I just made that up; don't know whether to be proud or ashamed).

So you got the volume spike during Circuital, too?  I was wondering if it was just me.  I'd love if someone could bring the levels of the rest of the show in line with that small segment.  It seems like a pretty simple fix.

even recording with audacity no matter what you set it at aren't you still only recording at the quality the stream is?  I was always under the assumption webcasts are set at low bit rates as it is.  I suppose the wav's should have been made before the final mp3s but other than that  is the bit rate that different?  I'm curious about this webcast stream quality stuff for future events.

Absolutely agreed. That was a mistake on my part that I didn't delete that out of the other file (which is what I said before). You recorded it. Share away, as you said. I was just trying to do everyone a solid by chopping it into separate tracks.

All I meant by the other comment was that I try to keep things in as high a quality as possible. I didn't realize they were mp3s to begin with.

Close:

johnnYYac's 3 wav files > slice and dice into separate wav files > flac files

Had I known they were mp3s at any point, I wouldn't have bothered making 'em flacs.

No, you're right.  Webcasts are lossy by nature.  I had Audacity set to record from my computer's stereo mix.  Doing it that way, the audio is only as good as your computer's sound system.

Recording to .wav from the webcast preserves the audio in a lossless format, even though the sound is lossy.  It's better than recording a webcast to .mp3 because you are adding another lossy compression step to the lineage.  Once you go lossy, you can never get it back.
