Title: LA Greek show!
Post by: jaye on Aug 13, 2010, 04:52 AM
Wowee

I'm not sure I have a complete list but I'll attempt it -

at dawn
golden
It beats 4 u
gideon
anytime
mahgeeta
war begun    :o  (with an amazing guitar solo by Jim)
new song
where to begin   :o
touch me 1
dancefloors
celebrate with you
wonderful
dondante
amazed
highly suspicious
smokin from shootin
end of run thru
touch me 2

encore
wordless chorus
OBH

Show was exactly 2 hours because of the darn curfew around the Greek, so quite a few less songs than last night, but I'm not complaining - this is my first time seeing the whole band!  (Saw MOF last year). Missed them the last couple of times in the Bay Area. We drove 7 hours to get here and have to leave first thing in the morning but I'm too amped to sleep.

It was great to watch Carl going crazy during OBH and other songs, after hearing the lovely mellow songs from his album.

There was a very cool poster with an owl - didn't get one, can't afford it.

(teeny complaints about the sound system and some of the LA concert-goers but I'm choosing not to focus on those.)

It's seems they're going to be mixing up their setlists a lot to prepare for T5. Might I hear The Bear (probably the best song written in the past decade) live finally in Chicago?

where/how did you get that!?  :o
we were contemplating waiting around for the band near their bus, but we figured they probably just wanna relax and dont want anyone bothering them - anyone get to meet them after the show?

my first MMJ show last night and my first post here. (i did see MOF last year at the Greek) Great Show!!! great setlist & the band had alot of energy! Jim James voice live is amazing. my only complaints: show wasn't long enough. I know its because of stupid curfew but they could've started earlier..? I love the Greek Theater but it was not loud enough!! people kept shouting "TURN IT UP!" between songs. It gradually got louder throughout the night but still not loud enough. Also, stupid people around me who would talk during the songs. Especially during quiet songs!! no manners or common decency. Don't get me wrong though, it was an amazing show that i will never forget. Cant wait for new album & next time i can see them live!

i was able to take some video of the new song: Circuital. I took it with my iphone 4, was sitting about halfway back & video is shakey. Audio is good though especially when you select HD 720p. Unfortunately i didn't catch beginning of song, it starts about half way through. enjoy!

Last night's Greek show was only the second MMJ show for me. Both times I have seen them, this indescribably magical band completely transports me. Being at their show allows me to transcend everything, other than the intense LOVE that fills my heart to the point where it feels like it might explode. I don't think any other live show I've been to, and I've been to many, has ever made me feel quite this way. Jim James is channeling something overwhelmingly powerful. It was a beautiful evening, beautiful crowd and an absolutely mind blowing 2 hours of SHEER PERFECTION. The only problem I had was that it simply wasn't loud enough. And thank you to Jim for acknowledging the bad rap that L.A. gets (often justifiably) and appreciating us. Of course their show draws only the finest humans in this city. THANK YOU TO THE BAND FOR PLAYING YOUR HEARTS OUT FOR US! THE CITY OF ANGELS LOVES YOU!!!
Oh by the way my seat was next to a guy named Adam who seemed very cool and as mad for MMJ as I am, so Adam, if you happen to read this, I wanted to say hi, and it was awesome to share the evening with you!

Randy, I feel you on the people talking during quiet songs. So lame. That is the bad rap on L.A. that Jim mentioned, in action. Nothing was able to spoil the experience though!

They've been posting photos of the setlists since April through their Twitter account.  I'm in NH, wishing I was in LA!

fly-by post:  the set list for last night's show was fantastic!  not just in the song selection in the dynamic it created.

as they were preparing to play one song, i heard a guitar chord and exclaimed, "oh fuck, it's going to be something beautiful!"  ;D the guy next to me laughed and agreed.  turned out to be "war begun."

so many friends at this show!  absolutely the best birthday i've had.
cheers, all!  [smiley=beer.gif]

I could probably post a picture of it since a print now resides in my bedroom next to the humping pinata poster from Berkeley 08.  :)
