I am in H-Burg. Considering a weekend trip to Pittsburgh, NY, then Philly.

3.5 hours to Pitt
5.5 to NY
5.5 back to Philly
2 hours home

That's not too insane, right? Now if I could just find some money...

The NY venue looks beautiful. Please go tdb.

By the way, I am typing all this while listening to Acoustic Citsuoca, so I am under the influence of awesomeness.

this venue does look pretty nice. almost an exact copy of saratoga performing arts center over here by me. only about 3.5 hours from my town, it is on. not sure when my little bro starts up school again next year, but if he is back at RIT by then i can just crash at his place!

oh the good 'ol RIT days. Is this place the old Darien Lake venue? They used to have shows there all the time.

Nice to see MMJ playing a lot of nice (and cozy) outdoor venues this summer!

I think this is a different place. It isn't SUPER close to RIT, but it's a heck of a lot closer than driving back to Albany.

Bliss...

Lovin it!  We booked our Vermont tix today, and we are definitely doing Philly (and sandwiching the Izod center in between)....NY is a maybe right now, what with child care and all that jazz!
We will see as the date gets closer -- but so far its:

JJ with DMM and BS in Brooklyn 7.30
Vermont   8.20
Izod Center NJ  8.24
Philly  8.29

Though jumping on the bus is sounding SOooooooooooooooooo appealing right now!

i see that this is a seated venue, but on ticketmaster if you change the view from end stage to table set up, it looks like the 2 sections right in front of the stage can be removed. anyone know if they will use that as a GA pit for this show?

That's what was happening for the 2008 NYE show when Ticketbastard and the scalper's shut everyone out...the wait would go from 1 minute, jump to 10, back down to 5 and them jump back up to 15.  It was a circus and nobody got anything decent during that sale.

As of a month ago, I had no intentions of going to this show. Then I realized I have two whole seasons to wait between now and the T5 shows. Long story short, I'll be coming down from Toronto on the 28th.

Picked up some sweeeeeeet 3rd row RCE tickets on eBay at a VERY good price -- have never been so happy with eBay brokers.

So pumped!

TNP are an indie pop group based out of Vancouver.  They're a very good band, although not everyone likes them.  The entire band is together for the first time in years, which means Neko Case and Dan Bejar are touring.  I've seen TNP I think three, maybe four, times including this June in Montreal.

TNP isn't really like MMJ.  Think more like Broken Social Scene (another Canadian indie super-group).

AT the suggestion of Nothern Neighbour (hey NN we're just up the Valley from you, in Pembroke), I'm going to repost this message here.

Hey all,,,just wondering where everybody's staying in the Canandaigua area? We booked into the Red Carpet Inn, which seems to be one of the closest places to CMAC. It looks decent, fairly modern, etc., yet it gets mostly terrible reviews. One reviewer said that when they arrived, with confirmation in hand, they were told they didn't have a reservation and denied a room. I checked around and every other motel is booked solid, which makes me wonder if this place is legit and we even have a res.

Also wondering as to where anyone arriving in Friday night might be hanging out? Any good bars / restaurants nearby? First time going to CMAC so any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Mickey, my wife and I were originally going to stay at the Red Door Inn, but we have had to cancel, as we will now drive right back to Ottawa after the show.  We have an 8:00 flight in the morning to Philly to catch MMJ's next show.  We have to do this because 1) we're flying overseas on the 30th and 2) it was a much more cost-effective way to travel.  Anyway, you might want to call the Red Door Inn to see if they have a room available.  The manager sounded like a great guy and the Inn has very good reviews.

Likely a couple of sleepless nights.  :)  Our trip is seeing 4 concerts in 4 cities (3 countries) in 12 days.  It's quite the trip.  Oh, only two of the concerts involve MMJ.

The New Pornographers won't be everyone's cup of tea, but they are a talented group of musicians and one of three indie super groups from Canada (along with Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene).  I'm a fan of theirs, and I am looking forward to seeing them.  They're not the ideal band to open for MMJ, but fans who are not familiar with TNP will likely enjoy their show.

It will all be up to my pops since I am in town to visit him and the whole fam, but he really wants to see MMJ with me!  Now that I am in my 30's, married and with a stable job, he has really opened up to me about his love of rock and roll.  *side note:  I blew off college to follow the dead way back when, so he never wanted to "encourage" my behavior.  But now all bets are off!  Crossing fingers we will be there!

The show was amazing last night.  The total 8-hour-plus drive there and back was well worth it.  We were able to snag a setlist tonight as well, and another fan offered us $100 for it, but we declined

"Wonderful!" was great live.  A little mellow tune, but much better than "Sec Walkin".  I was extremely pleased to hear "I Will Sing You Songs", but was disappointed that "Steam Engine" was left out. Hopefully they'll play SE in Philly.

The "Run Thru" transition between "SFS" and "TMIGTS2" was awesome.  It was much better to experience it in person than to see it on YouTube.

Oh, Dillsnufus, sorry mate, I didn't get you a shirt, as I didn't have internet access throughout the day.  I'll send you a text message to see if you want me to pick one up for you in Philly, assuming it's still $30.

Now ready to hop on a plane to Philly for tonight's gig.

Amazing show last night!  My first of hopefully many MMJ shows.  I couldn't believe how few people were there, though.  The whole back section of seats was empty.  I don't know if there was anyone in the lawn even.  There was at least one taper there that I saw.

Oooooo very nice!!! And an I Will Sing You You Songs!!!

Heh I like:

QuoteI agree, since I am flying in from Oregon.   :)

Right on, you only live once!!! I bet you caught some awesome magic times!! What years would you say you followed 'em for?

And did you convince the pops to go last night?!? I hope you guys could rock out together! My mom wanted to go with me to the Pitt show, but I knew I wanted to be in the front....and I knew I wanted to headbang.... and I knew I wanted to stick around afterward to see about meeting everyone. She really loves them though, it's super cool  8-)

Hope ya got to go!  :)

Nice site Johnny....Can you still get those on ebay or in any music store? I know Guitar Center could order me one but they were quite expensive.
eBay has about a dozen or more at any given moment.

I thought it was a pretty good show. Not as good as I expected mostly because of how much hype their is for Live MMJ but yeah, it was good. Only 19 songs, but I don't blame them...there really wasn't a lot of people at the show.

Was it just me or was the sound quality kind of lacking? Couldn't hear some of Jims guitar during key points of OBH and a few other songs. That kind of brought the show quality down for me, but like I said it was still really fuckin great hearing them and watching them rock out...so much energy. Hope somebody taped it.

I'm sure it's a better experience seeing them live at an indoor venue.

My first MMJ live experience -- and what a show it was! Met some great Jacket fans who we rocked out with the entire show -- thanks to great fans and a great band.  No thanks to those assholes who chose to talk through every song.

Got some decent pics and videos which I'll post soon.

Also, if anyone has an extra poster -- PLEASE let me know! I'd be happy to work out a deal!

finally back home! i thought this show was a blast. i was 4th row carl's side and it sounded awesome. jim did so much one-legged hoppity hops across the stage, it was awesome. i couldn't really see behind me very well, but everyone around me was rockin out pretty good. the fat, bald, bearded security guard at the left of the front rail was a total nazi. he kept distracting me from the music with his uber 'by the book' enforcement of silly rules. the setlist was a liiiiiiittle bit disappointing, but i did get to hear my first ever IWSYS so i really can't complain.

can't wait for rocktober :D

Awesome show! Can't believe how few people were there, but that worked out for us as we made our way from the lawn down into the seats and a great view of the action.

Sadly, I struck out on the poster (forgot to pick it up). Does anyone know if it will be on sale on this website at any point?

Many thanks for the video! I was front row for this in front of Jim right center and already sent this to a bunch of friends as they can spot me several times. Nice quality as well! Had a total blast at the show.
