wow wow wow!

here's the link.  this would be monumentally special and intimate.
it's only a week or so before I hit all 5 at T5 so logistically this may be close to impossible but if you can get there and spare the $$, this is a once in a lifetime event  (kinda like all 5 at T5)

Is it worth skipping my college roommate's wedding?   ;D

Hey people get married all the time.  MMJ only plays the ramble ONCE.   ;)

I mean, we're really not that close any more...we hardly ever talk...   ;D

Standing room is all that's left now.
Title: Re: MMJ doing Levon Helm's Ramble 10/16
Post by: ericm on Sep 02, 2010, 05:17 PM
All the seats are sold. As of now it's just standing room tix left.

I would so love to do this, but can't manage it with T5 and KFC.

I'm trying not to think about how great this will be. One of my best friends goes up to Levon's at least once a year, and said at the worst, you'll be  40 feet away. If you have a seat and get there around 5:00- 6:00 pm, it'll seem like they're performing in your living room!

Damn!

I was lucky enough to do this in June with the Drive-by Truckers and it's true. Even if you're standing, you're standing pretty close or you're above in the loft area overlooking the stage. It's really laid back. You show up early and park and you can bring your own alcohol, they give you plastic cups and you can go stand in line and drink and walk back and forth to/from your cars. They didn't open the doors till about 7:20 and I got a seat and was probably 30 to 40 people back. Some people wanted to stand up above. There are about 50 chairs and everyone else kind of stands. What's cool is that MMJ will probably just be standing around watching Levon's set or on the back porch hanging out, too. There's a museum area downstairs and also you can bring food to share and go down during the set breaks and go down and hang out and talk music. It's a really magical/religious experience. If you get a chance, go up to woodstock for the day, the town itself is only about 2 miles away from Levon's place. There are a couple of cool bars that haven't changed much, so it's like a really fun time warp. It's definitely a day I will never forget. If I could go back in time, I'd wait to share it with the Jacket, but I definitely loved seeing Patterson up there w/Levon, too. (Also, Donald F sits in and there was a pretty cool horn section).

Either way, I've already decided that I want my house designed like Levon's!

ohmygawd .. how can i not go to this? here's the thing, i'm actually already going to a ramble this month (anders osborne + stanton moore trio). that said, i'd go to this but i need to find a ride. living in nyc = no car for me and renting is pretty steep (not to mention ramble tickets).

but w0w, that would be amazing!! tickets for these things go fast, the one i'm going to is totally sold out. what to do !?

Well, when I talked to management and told them I couldn't fucking believe that they weren't honoring your birthday in some sort of fashion, and how utterly appalled I was, they immediately made the call and set it up.  I mean, being such a big time fan and all the boys are happy to do it.  Just remember the little people out there.

HAPPY EFFING BIRTHDAY SIS!!!  :D

Yea, I know. It's a lot of music but it's My Morning Jacket! I wish I could make it but I'll have to read reviews of it later. Since we spent so much already for our NYC trip.

the month of october is really going to kill me though .. 4 days of out of town guests >> MMJ RAMBLE >> MMJ @ T5 + CARL (and not taking off work any) >> 3 nights of Phish for Halloween .. BANANAS  :D

Anyways...this sounds very sweet.

That's the best part -- no tickets = no scalpers! When one purchases a ticket, they are put on the "master guest list" outside the studio -- only the purchaser and their guests can get in!

I am so glad I bit the bullet and bought tickets last night. Huge impulse buy, but now that I see the tickets sold out so fast, I can rest a little easier. That week in October will cross about forty-six items off my bucket list.

it IS weird that it wasn't announced until tix were sold out (except standing room)..i didn't get the ramble update about it and it would have been great to have been listed on here on the homepage. many diehard MMJ fans have been waiting a long time for this ..what gives?
i'm not sure scalping for the ramble has ever been an issue.

I hope to be catching these also. ;D

I can't believe the AC rumors turned out to be true. BH is a great venue, especially since the renovation a few years back and as a nice bonus, it's  only 45 minutes from my house.

I'll be skipping the Friday show as that is KFC - Yum night. ;)  I hope to make it back to Jersey by showtime Saturday night...and then the Halloween show Sunday!

Good luck on the ticket front also. Fingers crossed. I hope the ticket gods will smile on both of us.

The T5 run through Halloween in AC is going to be one hell of a couple of weeks!! 8-)

I have some advice for anyone who didn't get a tickets.  Call them anyway.  Tell them how big of fans you are of MMJ and Levon.  There is a decent chance they will do everything they can to get you in.  I know they did that for a bunch of Grace Potter fans when she opened a Ramble.

Also if they do sell you tickets you should buy me one for giving you the advice and then also buy me a plane ticket from AZ and find me a place to stay.  Fair trade right?  ;)

TRYING that same run. Want Ramble, which I already requested off work for that weekend to try to catch Phish in Charleston, but heard about this, and it wasn't a question to ditch Charleston for Ramble.

WANT/NEED tix for T5 (hint, hint can anyone help?) then PHISH HALLOWEEN AC.... I thought August was a great month for Phish Jones Beach ->MMJ Philly... but if I can pull this October run off, I'm good to go, unless Phish or Jacket play MSG-NYE.

Picked up a second job just to be able to afford to try to pull this off. I will do my best and let you know how that goes!

Good luck to everyone trying to obtain tix for Ramble, T5 and Phish. Man is it a scramble! And whoever does get tix, let me know, we could meet up at whatever shows I get tix to!

I am hoping to get two tickets. I just remembered my friend said he had a connection with Levon Helm. His buddy plays in a band that is connected with Levon Helm's Studios. He mentioned to me over the summer he could get me tickets when I wanted. Just gave him a ring and he is gonna put in a call. Hopefully it works out!

Penny, I would def give you the ticket if you weren't running in that marathon! LOL. I am giving away tickets I don't even have yet. But I do have hope!  :)

i'm already registered and trained for the race..plus it means a lot to my dad even though he always says he'll run with me and then as soon as the gun goes off, BOOM, don't see him for 3 1/2 hours--m torn now

dodo-keep me posted..!

Bigsky--i don't think it'll be posted there because it's not a show really..i know DBT came on and played for probably 45 min to an hour (7-9 songs if i remember) then they came out and did the Weight w/them. i imagine that's probably what will happen here, too.

i'm really annoyed it wasn't advertised here earlier so the hard core element (freaks like us) could get tix. i know for DBT everyone had at least 3-4 days to scramble around. i mean people came down from nova scotia for that...sorry done bitching.

Ahhh, there, I feel better.

OK...it's been 7 days since this show's tickets went on sale, and still no mention of it on the MMJ homepage. I am not saying that this isn't going to happen, because we know it is (people bought tickets for it). It's just curious how it hasn't been mentioned yet. When ever the boys are going to do an event or promote a cause, they put it right on the homepage...why not this event?

What's going on? :-?

Part of me is wishful that MMJ is going to release some spots on the list for us members or have a contest or just give one to me because I'm special... ;)

i think a lot of industry people probably got the tix, too
even if it was mentioned on levon's page and i just missed the email (they don't send updates for each new band but every few weeks or so) i agree, it's still a little strange.
i hope you're right, that they'd hold some tix back..

This is Levon's thing.  MMJ will not get any tickets...its all sold through his site and if it says sold out it is...I mean there are only like 200 tickets tops.  All his rambles sell out.  They just got asked to be the opening band...there is really no point in them adversting a sold out show.

Really? You don't think it's good marketing for MMJ to show they are doing a gig with Levon? Why wouldn't they want to express their excitement for doing this gig?

i get what Bold is saying, it is more a ramble thing, but even if it's a one time opening slot, it's still strange. all the other bands that get asked to play (DBT, Jackie Greene, etc) have it advertised on their sites right away..just strange..i mean it's still not up yet TODAY. not so much that they're advertising tickets, but it's an honor to play up there, it should have been noted..that's all we're saying. maybe Jim got to talkin w/Levon after they sang together out west and it happened really fast...still should be mentioned...

it is interesting and i'm super curious as to how this works ... they got a great thing going up there and i can understand having strict frame work set up in order to keep it that way. but yeah, if other bands have at least listed it as part of the 'news' and the honor of doing so .. head scratcher!!

that said .. when i found out about this i flipped out with the "how did i not know" feeling. well apparently no one knew. i wish we had though .. it'd be alot more fun to go up there with all of you instead of hail mary'ing it up there by myself and driving back post-show (b/c renting a car *and* a hotel room are too much for me, myself, and i alone).

and the idea that most of the tickets went to industry folks could be right on. it's 2 nights before the big T5 run .. it could be a quasi kick-off event.

my mom is coming to visit me for a long weekend prior to the ramble. it's going to be gorgeous that time of year and she's always wanted to go to woodstock + i have an old friend that owns a gallery i have yet to visit .. so i think the saturday prior (10/9 i think) i might be up that way. will scope out a potential good restaurant for pre-show if anyone wanted to meet up. one place i do know of .. a little pricey but the red onion (http://www.redonionrestaurant.com/) is really good.

total speculation, but in line with the thought of it being bought up by 'music industry people', maybe the band only sent the onsale info out to close friends and family and they bought it up before word ever leaked out.

I'm not sure if I buy any of these conspiracy theories about who the tickets got bought up by. Levon announces all his Rambles, and they sell -- fast.

i think it's probably a little of both.
i don't think it's a conspiracy or that there's something so wrong w/it, i just think it's odd it's not posted on this site.

I think what people are also forgetting is that Levon Helm, you know the guy in the Band...has fans...that buy tickets...he put out an email and Facebook adverstising another ramble..his fans buy tickets...200 people for Levon is not a lot....which is why they all sell out regardless of the opening band.

I'm don't know for sure but my guess is MMJ had nothing to do with ticket sales...if it was friends and family they probably just come with them and stand just like DBT's crew did..I doubt they get actual seats.

Tinker Street...... gypsies..... and oh the catskillssssss...... wish I could make it to any of these but I think I've been rather neglectful of my "budget".... but then again I was going to camp it up in the adirondacks at least a few days before T5, so who knows what's a-brewin, it's a magic little place.....[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I have no clue what the pricing situations are, but there are at least a couple SWEET little bed & breakfasts right in the heart of Woodstock along Tinker St....

there s a HUGE BBQ place on the way if you're driving upstate, I can't remember the name but it's a big giant barn...it's called BBQ Barn or BIG BBQ or something simple like that. i'll try to look it up, it's no more than 3 miles or so outside of woodstock and some friends ate there and said it was great.

Quotei love levon & have been told that midnight ramble is a must - well worth the ticket price.  and now, mmj is guesting on my birthday!!!!

ticket purchased.  freaking out.  midnight ramble + T5 all 5 = kick ass way to start a new year on this earth  :D

hey, thanks for setting this up!  you've cemented yourself in as my favorite sister.  for life.  don't tell the others tho  ;D

on a seperate note - i feel very lucky to have stumbled upon this thread before tix sold out.  i got one for myself & now i wish i'd bitten the bullet & bought 2 (or 3 even).  but, @ $150 a pop & my funds already stretched it just wasn't possible.

it is odd that the show still isn't listed on the homepage (and tbh, it makes me a little nervous).  i mean, they listed the TPATH opening gigs so, why not this one???  i mean, this is HUGE!  lot's of good theories posted already tho.  i'll ask jim on the 16th & report back  ;)
