Im really glad this wasn't just a one-off, really loved the first album. Hopefully we get more written by Connor/background vocals by Jim tunes, those are definitely my favorites (Temezcal, Map of the World). Im not just saying this because Im an MMJ fan (I think Oberst has the strongest songs on the album, personally), but Jims backing vocals are f*cking outstanding.

I wholeheartedly agree -- I think that debut was one of the most criminally underrated albums of the last decade. Great performances, very well-constructed songs and top-notch production to boot. I'm hoping we'll see a MOF tune or two on display at T5.

Wouldn't be surprised if they did "Losin Yo Head" as part of the beyond part of "Evil Urges and Beyond".

I agree, I mean obviously Jim is otherworldly when it comes to doing lead vocals, but being good at lead doesn't always mean being good at doing backing vocals, but he's like, the king of doing backing vocals as well. It seems to me like he's very good at adjusting and following the one doing the lead vocals. His voice enhances pretty much anyone doing lead, but I think it's a very nice match with Conor. Already apparent on At the bottom of everything from Wide Awake, but definitely even more so on the MoF album.

I think pretty much every song on the album is a strong song, but maybe part of why I don't necessarily think Conor's songs stand out more than any other (like a few people think) is because I already thought he was brilliant before MoF and therefor I wasn't as surprised... ;) Or not! I don't know. Definitely underrated, seems like a lot critics thought something along the lines of: they're all brilliant on their own, so put together they should be brilliant x3. But really I think they're all so good on their own, it couldn't possible be better, only different. So yeah, brilliant!  :D

Oh yeah, about the topic, if you can go there and see them, do it! I would SO like to go, it will surely be amazing  :)

(obviously English isn't my native language, so forgive me if this post was a bit confusing, sometimes I Swibberish ;))

Anyone going to this or the ACL fest?  Looks like they have a full 2 hour slot on Saturday.

Wow, thank you so much for those videos. I never heard those alternate versions. I saw them live in Toronto. Nothing short of amazing. If anyone thought about going, do yourself a favour, don't miss out.

I personally think that all of the guys involved in MOF have amazing individual talent and strengths that combine to make one of the best groups.

Oberst = best songwriter
James = best vocalist/backup
M. Ward best guitarist
Mogis = best musician/producer

Just my opinion.

Ayy I caught them at stubbs in November 09 and they blew me away. One drawback: so many washed up emo girls and boys. Don't get me wrong, I like color and mogis."A Song To Pass the Time" is my fave from him and I was surprised they did it at the show.  http://m.youtube.com/index?client=mv-google&xl=xl_blazer&desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US#/watch?xl=xl_blazer&v=GGrEHrY0JEM

Oh ya they've got decent bbq also hehehe;]]]]]]

my thoughts on the album exactly. Ahead of the Curve and Temezcal are my two favorites.

I won passes to their ACL taping tomorrow night!  Pretty pumped.  Will also be at the fest on Saturday to see them.  They are also doing an autograph session at 3 at the fest on saturday.  Lot's of Monsters to be had.
