Title: Your top 5 for the 5 @ Terminal 5
Post by: j_rud on Aug 30, 2010, 08:33 PM
I know each night will include additional stuff, but sticking to the stuff we know they're playing (the album tracks), what are you looking forward to the most? Thought 5 was an appropriate number...

5. Masterplan
4. Strangulation!
3. They Ran
2. Old Sept. Blues
1. Rollin Back

As for the other stuff, I'd love to hear Rocket Man or Chills. They gotta play Chills sometime, right? Don't they? Please?

Its About Twilight Now
Just Because I Do
I Will Sing You Songs

This is hard, but...

5) Into The Woods
4) If All Else Fails
3) Strangulation!
2) Masterplan
1) I Needed It Most

War Begun would definitely be on there since I havent seen it, but I feel like I wouldve seen one in the not to distant future if not for these shows.

EP highlights for me - if they play them - would be Isobella with the White Umbrella, Why Dont You Love Me, Nothing 2 Me, Devil's Peanut Butter, and Rocketman

I only used songs I havent seen live. After last night I was more than happy to scratch Honest Man and Rebel off the list. Still dying to hear Honest Man again. That was absolutely ridiculous...

Great thread idea.

When I saw the title, I immediately thought "wouldn't everyone have Rollin back #1?"  and then when I opened it, saw that you did!  Great song and super rare (only played a few times ever) - I would bet VERY few people on this board have ever heard (the full song) live.    How great is it gonna be to belt out the choruses "oh...you had me.... wrapped up...."  can't @#$#@-ing wait so that is my #1 by a long shot.  To me it's the focal point of the whole trip, as extreme as that sounds.   It's one of my favorite songs and I've always wondered why they don't play it.

Prior to Holyoke, #2 would easily have been Where to Begin and also in the top 5 would be Honest Man and Going to Hell.   So pretty amazing that those all get checked off already (and had they played ALL of Rollin Back....)    Will gladly enjoy hearing them again but if the list is songs we haven't heard, I guess now it's:

Strangulation
Death Is the Easy Way
Chills
How Could I Know

The Bear would be on the list but I'm missing Monday night's show.
I've heard Phone Went West many times and for a while was happy it took a leave of absence, but now I'm really jonesing for it again after a few years, so if the list is expanded to include all songs, i'd fit that on there.

Man this is getting me too excited too soon.   Premature anticipation!

I think I'm subconsciously avoiding this due to severe indecisional circumstances..... Gonna keep it on the burner though, and I may return eventually with some choices.... or... I may continue to live vicariously through everyone else's replies.....  :-[

OK cool, I'm gonna try and blend ralph and peafunk's ideas, and a.) have no particular order and b.) perchance return with a new top 5 later on  :-X

-Strangulation (...hits extremely hard on the loss of one of my best girlfriends since preschool... who was of course 23.)(sorry if that was super heavy, it's just such a beautiful song......)
-By My Car
-I Will Be There When You Die
-The Bear
-I Needed It Most

Great!  I'm so glad I finally settled on 5..............

::::::::::::::::::::::::::look awayyy::::::::::::::::::

side effects may include thinking you're going to hell, masterplans, and running thru, or rollin backward...  studies show that it makes no difference, they're one in the same anyway. helmet included with purchase. do not take on an empty stomach, but with 1.5 oz. devil's peanut butter. and if all else fails, you may find that death is the easier way to go.

ooooh, this is really tough but i love it!  fantastic topic!!!

only picking 1 song off each album & of those, choosing only songs that i've never seen live & in person - including any yim side projects (no setlist from field day festival so... this is only as accurate as my shoddy memory goes for that):

the bear
chills (the bonus cd totally counts)
master plan
knot comes loose
aluminum park

in the spirit of the "and beyond" portion of this event, i think perhaps there should be a bonus song allowed, so mine is:

hopefully

and i swear to all that is holy & good, if they play hot burrito #1 i will melt into a puddle on the floor & then evaporate, only to reincarnate in heaven

Penny Lane I'll bring the tissues, because I know Just One Thing and I Needed it Most will make me cry tears so big that Jim will *hopefully* look down and see his reflection.

This might be off topic but since we're talking music and the T5 shows, I have a question for everyone:

Will you go into a My Morning Jacket cone of silence until October and avoid all their music because you think it will enhance the live performances, making it uber special? (Fiddle, I know you did this Sunday, right?)

OR

Is it all Jacket, all the time for the next seven weeks in a full on mind blowing, face melting extravaganza?

I'm leaning toward playing all their albums, all B-sides, all covers nonstop.

An MMJ Cone of Silence is not currently possible in my world.

Need food and water to live and I for one need  my fair share of mmj tunes and recorded live shows on a regular basis as part of any good healthy diet.

After listening to Cobra last night, it just dawned on me that this is the perfect time for them to bust out a 25-30 minute Cobra instead of the abbreviated version

Yeah...Cobra is #1

I am surprised... no, SHOCKED, at the lack of love for Rollin Back.   Of the entire thread of posts, only a few people have it listed (including #1 rank for me and the original poster)

In fact, I'm I'm going to start a thread to muster support.  It's gonna be one of the highlights of the week for me for sure.

For those of you not listing it - are you just not a big fan?   Surely people haven't seen it, you can count on one hand the times it's been played live.   And we're not talking some obscure b-side, this is a major, middle-of-the-album track from perhaps their most loved album!!  (not to start another argument lol)

I am a HUGE fan of Rollin Back. However, I have not seen any of the songs I listed on page 1 either & I dig them more. Maybe we should expand the list to top 10 songs :P
