By now the show should be in full swing.
I've never been to Terminal 5 but if you read the yelp reviews you can get pretty depressed.
Now that people have been, I'd be interested in hearing reports. How was the sound? Lines of sight? What time did you get in and where did you end up? What was the line-up scene before? Any other advice? Bars, bathrooms, etc....
It'd be really helpful for those going later in the week. Thanks!
i heard the sound sucks ass but not sure.
They added some wall drapes which helped with the sound. I was on the floor towards the back and the sound was actually good, which is the first time I've ever felt that way at T5.
Show was unreal. I got a poster and a setlist. Got there at 7, no line, walked right in and bought a poster. They went on around 9:30.
show was phenominal.
there wasn't a crazy long line tonight but i'm sure as the week goes on the lines will get longer. totally lucked out - i was saying 'hello' to a few people @ the front of the line when they started letting folks inside, so, just went with it. got a sweeeeet spot, right on the rail, in line w/ jim's mic stand.
sounded great where i was, at one point i felt like my chest was going to explode from the bass. it wasn't like that the whole time, just for about 2 mins somewhere in there...
i got jim's setlist!!!!
Sound was phenomenal. I was center-stage on 3rd floor rail. Not a prob until final song, it just sounded like fuzz. Went downstairs to avoid waiting in stairwell lines and it sounded great.
This could be tainted by my severe case of jet lag. Met searchinbig and he got to experience my dazed state first hand (sorry dude!)
Amazing. It's About Twilight Now--holy **** ! I'm so happy I ended up going. I got to sit in front of stage right. I think I might take crutches with me to every show from now on...

i saw a girl with crutches and was hoping that someone would find you a good spot!
i was on the stage left side ... met some reallly nice people, it sounded amazing...actually saw something really crazy! a dude and this girl making out and acting very boyfriend/girlfriend. no big deal. except when she left to go wherever and then he started making moves on this other girl and the other girl called over security and they did nothing. anyone else see this???
Need earplugs the rest of the week.
Maybe I'm getting old but it was hurting. That's never happened to me.
Phenomenal show. Great people. It's about twilight now.. :)

i was annoyed with myself for forgetting earplugs. i'll be bringing mine for the rest of the week too.
see everyone at mcgee's tomorrow!!! assuming that's still happpening?
STRANGULATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
QuoteNeed earplugs the rest of the week.
holy hell i just said that in another thread. i just got home and still can't hear shit with my ringing ears. i totally sat my earplugs out to bring tomorrow.
i was on the rail with liz and there were definite times where i thought the sound not so good but it's fucking MMJ playing their hearts out so i'm not one to complain .. but ... yeah. EAR PLUGS for me the rest of the week.
I was about 15 feet back and stage left and the sound was phenomenal
Not sure why T5 gets the negative comments it does, every show I have seen there has been solid
Walked in at 8:15during Dungen. Went to the bathroom and grabbed a drink. Made my way up front. Finished my drink when Dungen ended, went back for another and was able to find a great position at about 9 or so
Did not leave that spot, as it filled quick and I doubted I could get back there
Does anybody else think perhaps MMJ needs better sound/stage equipment? Or a new sound technician guy? Everytime I've seen them live, either the sound seems way too loud or I can't hear a certain instrument (usually cant hear the guitar solo's that well) or I can't hear Jim's vocals clearly. This shouldn't be an issue and most bands I see live the sound is fine.
I don't know but I thought the sound was on point and it was perfectly loud. The volume helped make the show for me. That and that setlist

ahahaha, hacksaw, show your face! Or at least prove you were there, cause I think your a complete farce!
Always better sound near the front, ears did have some post show ringing... Great to See Johnny Quaid up there, you could see he was having a blast rockin out. The bond of the beginnings respectfully represented. Nice to hear Tyrone live, love how JJ/YY throws out his childlike bewilderment and appreciation for the surreal moments that constantly amaze him. Thankful for what he got. Grateful for the Fire, ready to see the Dawn, hopefully I still moves, trying to get some Z and resist my Evil Urges to cheese out!
;D
tony danza, i have nothing to prove to you. you seem offended that i said the sound quality is usually bad. i'm not necessarily blaming MMJ for this problem. maybe it's just the venues i've been to?
and i have showed my beautiful face in the member pics thread.
So what time did the show end at?
QuoteSo what time did the show end at?
11:30ish
Soundfolk were responsive. From my spot up top, the saxomophone was a bit muted at first and quickly gained volume until it was perfectly placed where it needed to be.
Nice to get to meet a couple of you last night, hope to meet more tonight.
One thing about the venue that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet is that they did a very intense search/pat down upon entering. Just sayin'.
The venue was not even close to being as bad as I heard, and feared it would be. Not the Beacon or Radio City by any means as far as looks go, but sightlines and sound were fine.
It was pretty damn loud though, and like others here, I went to sleep with a ringing in my ears, that at least for me is still there a bit.
Ear plugs a must for the rest of the week. ;)

Yes, I agree. It reminded me of the full body massage I got in Hawaii, except without the relaxation or nice smells.
RE: security .. they didn't pat me down or anything, just a quick search of my bag. girls ... did any of you get the pat ??
QuoteRE: security .. they didn't pat me down or anything, just a quick search of my bag. girls ... did any of you get the pat ??
they confiscated my pretzels. and they took Soulshine's granola bar.
lol...funny to me for some reason. i got all my drugs in, though. keed keed.

i read that really fast and thought it said 'quick search of my girls', i was thinking i didn't get THAT treatment...hmmm...

bah! i was sitting on the couch upstairs waiting to be let in and i heard you tell that story about your pretzels being confiscated. that's so strange?!!!
I am tired of all this security! TSA rummaged through our bags to make sure my coconut pancake syrup was not a threat (it is, though...easy to overdose on that shit). Wife wasn't patted down but had her purse rummaged through quite thoroughly
You really shouldn't mess with another person's pretzels or granola bar without prior consent.
I'm glad you guys had fun!
i thought the staff was extremely friendly. the security dude patting me down was pretty awesome and told me to have fun and when i went upstairs, every security guard going up the stairs greeted me with a hello and a smile. i was impressed.
although i'll admit that if one of them touched my salty snacks i'd be pissed .... wait that sentence sounds weird.

so what is that...twice now?
i have to say the staff and security were as chill as any of the dozen or so times i've been there.
hope it keeps up.

that's hot, chode. coconut pancake syrup on your honeymoon, eh?

i brought them for everyone, too. (assuming we were gonna stand outside). so i'm not even gonna bother bringing the halloween oreos now. ;)
Note, for those of you that were saddened by the lack of Asia Dogs on the roof last night (like me), they've tweeted (http://twitter.com/asiadognyc/status/27856049345) that they'll be there for the rest of the week.

Only in Hawaii!
So how early did people get there to get a spot on a rail on the balcony (either one)? I'm going with my lady who is a little vertically challenged... so I think I want to try to get a balcony spot... but I know if you're not on the rail... there's really no point.
If I get to T5 around 6:30... should I be okay? Doors don't open until 7pm, right?

All bets are off, I think it'll be a different game with the next few shows since they're sold out, closer to the weekend, and way more popular albums.
For what its worth, I've been arriving later than I would like the past two nights. Got in at 7:00 on Mon, had no problem getting 3rd floor balcony rail. 2nd floor was already cramped.
7:45 tues, and the rail was open but the best views were taken (3rd floor). 2nd floor = no way
Most of the crowd has been skipping the opening acts so far though.

Thanks Chode. I think I'll just go to the venue straight from work and try my luck. Should probably be able to get there by about 6:15.
It's really hard to believe last nights show wasn't sold out, it was completely packed in there.
hey all! what time did they go on both nights? i could probably get there by 9ish tomorr >:(ow
I for one can't stand Terminal 5. Prior to this week I've seen The Decemberists and The Hold Steady there. When I first heard that MMJ was playing an album a night for 5 out of 6 nights I was pumped. Then I read Terminal 5 and I was still pumped but it briefly took the wind out of my sails.
The problem is that if you are trapped anywhere under the shallow ceiling in the back or sides you are screwed. I was there on Monday and was able to get a good vantage point on the floor somewhere right in the middle. On Tuesday I had to work and my friend I went with wanted to watch as much of the Yankee game as he could at McGee's so we didn't get there until 9:00pm. By that point it was impossible to penetrate the crowd. Tonight I'm not going to be able to get there til 7:30pm. This time I'm drinking on the train and when I get to the venue I'm going to double fist and lock down my spot early and lock it down for the rest of the show. If it wasn't sold out Tuesday with that kind of crowd, the last 3 are going to be rough.
Are they allowing small non-professional cameras in?
Thanks

Yes, and yes.
In other news, tonight was the first night I experienced the poor audio quality. Couldn't hear Johnny at all during OBH, and had a real hard time hearing the horns at times.

So how did you make out on the balcony? I'm hear checking things out for tonight. After being in the pit,the first two nights, I'm moving upstairs. Tonight Mrs. Mahg33ta has arrived to make her MMJ debut after all these years. A BIG DEAL IN MY LIFE. I want things to be perfect. She won't like the floor, I know. So I'm going to try and secure a spot somewhere upstairs. But not sure how quickly we can get there, so I'm on here stressing about it! If we get there late and can't find a spot anywhere, what a disaster!
so any intel on where to go to get the last remaining viewpoints, and what time needed to be there - MOST APPRECIATED

Ok, well first of all I've got your shirt with me, so there's that.
Second, we planned on arriving much earlier last night but in my rush I left my tickets at home and had to turn around half way there to get them and hit NYC rush hour + lots of accidents. This pushed our arrival to the venue at around 7:15.
Second floor rail was completely occupied at least one person deep by that point.
Third floor rail was about 70% full. We stand near the back-corner of the rail since the VIP area tends to get full of people with big hair that can obscure the view.
Sound, for the most part, is spot on. Like I said, last night was the only time I had an issue and it was only on a few songs where a new musician came out and their instrument wasn't balanced yet.
I have had an annoying douche next to me the past two nights though. At Dawn was an older guy who would serenade his lady in a falsetto after songs to get her juices flowing, and they violently make out afterwards to the point it was plain awkward.
Last night I had a brah grinding with some girl like it was a club during Golden, and his asshole father or someone taught him how to do that high-pitched whistle where you put your fingers in your mouth. He did it minimum 3 times after each song, and even when his mouth was so dry he couldn't do it anymore, he kept trying.
So, the moral of the story: get through the doors at 7 PM if possible. Tonight will be the worst I think.
Yeah, I have a feeling that tonight is going to be douche and brahs galore!!
QuoteYeah, I have a feeling that tonight is going to be douche and brahs galore!!
I think their level will remain the same as last night because most of them get into MMJ because they think that it makes them knowledgable about guitar rock to like One Big Holiday since they heard it on Sportscenter and/or Guitar Hero.
What is going to ruin tonight is the inevitable Glow Stick that will hit TTT in the eye or some shit.
