So... any speculation as to exactly what the band is doing this summer since they're not touring? Recording a new album?
partying with me and letting me screen their demos for the upcoming album.
its going pretty well...we've been drinking lots of bourbon and high life. the songs are coming along nicely as well...
;)
they're writing and recording new material, fo sho.
they're also playing lollapoolza, opening for bob dylan, and jim is playing a handful of benefit shows and guest appearance with other artists.
they may be not touring the US... but they're secretly coming to melbourne & playing a secret gig in my backyard... gig fully catered by our great bbq and my flatmate's great raspberry friands
;D
ah if only.. :'(
I heard they were painting Jims house.

I am being serious. Corndogs, bourbon, and hot browns are Louisville favorites. Who's to say the band
isn't indulging in a few libations and relaxations whilst they're off the road? ;)
Hot browns? Please elaborate, it looks...well, interesting. :-?

The Hot Brown (replete with seriously unfortunate title) is a Louisville all time favorite.

If you get here, ya gotta have one. :)
QuoteHot browns? Please elaborate, it looks...well, interesting. :-?
hot browns were invented in Louisville at the Brown Hotel (get it...Hot "Brown").
it is VERY tasty. it consists of a piece of bread (preferably very thick!), piled with turkey, creamy cheese sauce, bacon, and then melted cheese all over.
some put a tomato on it, but i just consider those people Communists.

they are easy to make!
Holy Crap that sounds really good. That will wake you up in the morning.
Or they could be indulging in the St Louis Tradition, the Slinger. 2 Eggs, Hash Browns (greasy of course), a hamburger patty or 2, and smother dat sumbitch in some chili, cheese and raw onions. jesus I'm lightheaded from the rush of cholesteral thinking about eating this. Man does it go down good about 2 or 3 AM.
not the dialogue I had in mind...but I'm hungry now.

You've created a monster! A delicious sounding one.
seeing we're on the subject of food, did anyone celebrate National Corn Dog Day on March 17th of this year? If not, put it on your calendars next year.......your arteries will thank you later.

My man at Badman Records was in my store last week and confirmed to a co-worker that MMJ is currently in Colorado working on a new album..... :)

which would make sense with them opening for Dylan (randomly in Colorado i thought, but obviously not). we need more info on this!

i can confirm but not provide a whole lot more info.
Does that mean they are recording a new album? So all of the music is written :) and they are just holed up laying down the tracks? :D
What do you think is the typical amount of time between recording and album release based on past experience? 3 months? 6 months?
Actually, there isn't any music "written" for this latest album. Gonna be totally ad libbed.

oooh, improv! ;D
As much as I love Jim's song writing, and the band's ability to orchestrate, I would be bummed. Luckily, I'm full of shit in this instance.

I SERIOUSLY doubt it. The boys have always taken their time releasing their albums. They're not done recording yet, and when they are it will take at LEAST 6 months to hit the streets (if history has taught us anything). personally, i'm hoping we have it before the end of 08, but that's what waiting around on jacket releases will do to you.
i want it tomorrow!!!!!
:)

Good point. I'd rather wait and have a spectacular album, then have them rush and put out something that they are not happy.
If the White Stripes can record an album in 2 or 3 weeks why can't MMJ? OMG!!! They should work with Jack White! :D I just gave myself a heart attack, how awesome would that be?

I guess every band is different. Sometimes being quick and spontanious is good, but maybe it doesn't work for everyone.
All I can think to say about the White Stripes and MMJ Collaboration is "No Thanks"...
QuoteAll I can think to say about the White Stripes and MMJ Collaboration is "No Thanks"...
ditto.
jim is a bit meticulous with the recording process, especially when he was producing too. Just a little patience... (ew, how about an axel rose collab? ;))
aw come on you guys, let me have my fun while I'm waiting.
They just said that an MMJ/White Stripes collab is not for them. They didn't say that you couldn't pretend. :)
I'd say "no thanks" as well. :)
I dig the Stripes and all, but I don't think it'd work.
collab probably wouldn't work, but maaaaybe a guitar duel ala this:

Anybody know where in Colorado? My first post on this site as a long time fan....just moved to Denver recently and will be seeing them at Red Rocks and even driving to Telluride...from I've heard the Town Park will be a great venue....
Id like to think that they are recording in some mythical spot tucked way back in the mountains. Im interested to see what comes out of this whole thing.
Maybe at Caribou studios??? Is that even still around?
QuoteMaybe at Caribou studios??? Is that even still around?
Nevermind....just found out the Caribou Ranch studio burnt down in 1985. ;D

sounds perfect!
I just talked to a friend who was helping with the sound for MMJ this summer in CO. They were there for like a month or something and said they were living in like a geodessic dome or some shit, practicing mostly and figuring out new songs. I know this is old news, but it was an insider scoop, so i thought it made it kinda cool. He also said that they were recording their secessions so they could be released on the album or B sides, with a live feel to them. Anywho, just confirms from what he said and the way he talked about them, that they are infact the hardest working band in R&R.
Maybe well get a nice little EP from all their time in the studio over the last year...
very cool! thanks for the first hand account!
a new ep would be great way to hold us over til the new album
that "no shows scheduled at this time" banner on the front page of the website is hurting me a little.
listened to the "dancing in the moonlight-->johnny b. goode" from athens night 2 today. man oh man.
ps. CORNHOLE!
dylan, gonna have to get the goal specs from you so i can build one and work on my form before next summer!
