I'll be there for sure. Can't wait.
In case anyone has any extras.....I'm looking for one for a friend. I gave him Z and EU to listen to since he's never seen the Jacket and I wanted him to go. He said he'd like to see Z (i've got an extra EU ticket already) so if anyone has any extras PM me or email: swalmmd@yahoo.com with prices

Same here. Looking forward to hanging with the both of you again.
If we have anywhere close to the time all of us had in Philly, it'll be quite the night... have a feeling these shows might even top that one. 8-)
I'll be taking my son and one of his friends to their first Jacket Live experience for Z, so it justs keeps getting better and better.
eric, beth says she hopes we can meet up before the show.
don't know if you will be taking your son & friend to pre-show bar meet-up but if not we will look for you near the front of the line I'm sure
should be a highlight for you taking your son to the show!

We're hoping to. No way the two of them will pass up a chance to hit a pub in NYC,if they can help it. ;) My son's friend is driving up from Maryland, and as long as he's on time, we'll be there.
If not I'll look for you and Beth at the show. I don't know that I'll be at the front of the line with this being the 4th night... I have a feeling by then I might just be ready for one of the balconies. :-/
I understand. I think I will need a vacation after 5 shows and 5 late nights in a week. Each morning after a show will be mighty tough to wake up for work.
glad beth is gonna be making it to the show! who needs friday night lights when you've got a pre-game @ mcgee's w/ other crazies followed by mmj playing "Z" & other delectables? it'll be philly magnified to 400x, maybe even 1000x by then.
see you guys there!
Can't wait for this show, on my birthday too! Coming from Portland, OR to catch this and It Still Moves, best birthday present to myself EVER!
;D
Hey everybody, I've been lurking on this site for years and made my travel arrangements tonight to come to ISM and Z. I just feel so very, very happy and excited to be going to these shows and to be a fan of this band that I wanted to jump in, say hi, and let the "community" know that I will be there!!
I've seen MMJ in LA, Houston, Dallas, and most recently San Diego and have been floored and wowed each time but something about seeing these albums in there entirety is just so epic. I can't wait!!
Well welcome, boxcar! Looking forward to meeting you! You should come to the pre-party.

Happy BIrthday Kraffty and Welcome to you and Boxcar!
Looking forward to seeing the crew from Philly again! Hopefully everyone's back will still be in tact by Z night :)
Cannot believe it's only 10 short days away!!
Full Moon in NYC!
Thanks for the welcomes! I will definitely make the pre-show meet up.
Hi, my name is Jonathon. I'm new to the forum, but I'm traveling to NYC from Chicago for the shows. I'm really excited and I'll be there for the whole week, so if you want to hang out before a show, shoot me an email (and please add me to the roll call) . Thanks I'm looking forward to meeting some fellow fans. 8-)
Welcome, Jonathon! I'm coming from Chicago too. See you in NY!

Hey folks going to see Z, the opener, Holly Miranda is going to be great!
If anyone hasn't had the opportunity to check out her stuff yet, do yourself a favor and catch a quick listen. She's great!
Her last album was done with the help of the guys from TV on the Radio.
Her voice is amazingly beautiful!

i'm still have hope for the prince cover. i think chills is a definite.
i was thinking that since this is one of their shorter albums, if not the shortest that they'd do a longer encore. but listening to the album again some of these songs get pretty extended live...

I totally agree. Can't wait to hear Into the Wood. Also hoping for A Quick One and possibly I Can Never Take the Place of Your Man.
i thought we were gonna get Free Bird last night...so i guess it's tonight.

Unless Off the Record and Dondante are turned into 20 minute epics, which is more likely for Dondante if at all, it still will be significantly shorter than last nights set since every song on ISM is like 6 minutes long at a minimum when not expanded, and Steam Engine wrapped around the world.

Oh shit! I totally forgot about that song, and it's probably the one guitar part I look forward to the most. Those dovetailing riffs at the end that slide together then go octaves apart and come back again will make me dizzy.
Now, the big question: Will Johnny come out for this album? Three guitars on Law Low will be phenomenal
Where to Begin, right? RIGHT?!!!
Lay Low and Knot Comes Loose are my most anticipated.
BTW, I'd like to buy a ticket for a friend, so anyone with an extra Z ticket, please give me a call or pm me. 216-570-8866 thanks
I doubt they'd do both of the Elizabethtown tracks and I think Where to Begin is pretty much a given, but damn would I love to hear Same in Any Language. Also pretty sure they covered Northern Sky on the Z tour...not counting on it, but fingers crossed...

god fucking damn. nuts.
I think a quick one with eddie is one of my favorite covers of them ever, for those of us who are mentally damaged from the devastation of the absence of vibe. a classic, a moment in Italy, as an opening act, that the Jacket truly destroyed it. By the "you are forgiven" part the band and crowd are synchronized.

It Makes No Difference is the other cover that I'm bummed about missing most. I'm itchin to hear pretty much.. well everything. They have peaked again this tour and a lot of the songs are insane now. but now what after T5? something tells me they're just getting started.

That's right!
I also had this slight rush when I thought that Into the Woods might turn into a jam for some reason
how was into the woods? that was definitely the underdog song of the night. it seemed, a huge rarity, great underrated tune. is it true m ward helped write that song or something? wrote the chorus? can't remember.

First, the backdrop was a woodsy scene for the whole show. The lights fit it perfect. Jim started up toying with the guitar when I knew the song was next, so I was wondering if he'd turn it into some sort of jam.
Otherwise, it was strangely really, really awesome. Sort of a palate cleanser between halves

What?!?!?!?! That must have been good.
All those songs would have been good. What an awesome encore.
And in case you're wondering what the bananas are all about, the band threw bananas into the crowd during the end of careless whisper to help everyone stay healthy and refill their vitality, because George Michael was really singing about bananas.
Did they do that at NYE 2006?

This week I've left shows with Patricks drumsticks, the sound engineers stage blue print, and a banana. What. The fuck. Guilty feet have no rhythm...
this was the worst show of 4 I've been to thus far.
First of all Beats For U...wow that was the worst I've ever heard that song live...wtf happened there?
and I was bored out of my mind 10 minutes into Dondante. OMG KEWLZ JAM BRO! Lots of ZOMG I can play my instermentz 4 a rly long time lolz. Just stupid. Really forced...and just lots and lots of nothing spots where Jim tries to improvise on guitar and we all know that isn't his strong suit so it just didn't work out. Way too self indulgent and I contemplated walking out after they were FINALLY finished with the song. A few people around me even sighed "wow finally" when it was over.
Off The Record was the highlight of the show for me.
The guys just didn't seem to be having as much fun as they had previous nights...Jim's vocals were a little off too. meh.
i touched Jim's ba ba banana nana...then i ate it. i feel fortified.
still haven't touched Yim's pickle though.

Hey hacksaw,
I really wish you could make it to the Louisville show next week. I think we could be BFFs and really take bromance to another level. I mean, your attitude is so warming, and your opinions are so thoughtful and genuine and solicited. I mean, how cool is it that you come on here and bash a T5 show when there are so many of us who couldn't make it, for reasons (obviously) beyond our control. When we come here to get full reports from the lucky and deserving fans who represent us, and are able to go. You're a real classy guy.
Most of the people who come here embrace a certain "Golden Rule" quality, and have been lucky enough to find a band, and other fans who embrace those same feelings. Will you respect that? And if you're doing it as a spiteful kind of joke, fuck you still. You aren't welcome here unless you can be mature.
I'm sorry your uncle touched your upper leg a lot. And I'm sorry you were made fun of in high school. I'm sorry your circumcision was botched and I'm sorry your mom banged all of your friends...but don't take it out on here okay. This is where most of us come to get away from people like you.
Love,
Toby

from now on all shitty fans at concerts will be referred to as "hacksaws"
actually, gotta sort of agree with hacksaw. show was lacking something. it was definitely not as good as the it still moves show that had everyone going nuts the whole time, first through the main set and then with the amazing encore. last nights encore was just ok, although the quick one and careless whisper covers were awesome, they did not compare the tonight i'll be staying here with you and it makes no difference covers the night before. and dondante was great for the first 10 minutes then veered off into boring territory.
incidentally, it is completely ridiculous to say that you can't criticize a show just for the mere fact that other fans weren't able to go to it. am i happy i got a ticket? yes. but that doesn't mean that the show is going to be awesome just because i got a ticket and someone else didn't and i should just saw that it was good just so others are happy. as great as the band is, last nights show was not one of their bests.

Really excellent night last night. Thanks to all the forum folks for the post-game gathering last night...wonderful to meet y'all and to see the folks I met on NYE again. I'm going to bring a camera tonight to snap a photo or two of everyone.
Highlights for me -- The Dondante....Lay Low...I need a setlist I enjoyed it all. Had the earplugs in a bunch to filter out the chatter on the slower tunes. Worked out just fine. :) There was a tune that I didn't know. I think it was the first or 2nd song of the encore, but it rocked...need to find out what that was.
I was hoping to hear I'll Never Take the Place of Your Man and they played it and there was much dancing. Then the bananas...perfect wrap up!
Thought of u during Prince!
They played it just for ya.
See ya all tonight. Probly around 530.

Here's the Ba-Ba-Bananas-nanas part, hahaha
Last night was different than the other nights in that aside from Dondante, the album was more or less played straight up. I thought there might be more of a jam on Off the Record or Lay Low. But it's not like they were played horribly or anything. I knew Dondante would be the highlight when they finished knot comes loose at like 10:20.
I admit, I was nervous that there wouldn't be saxomophone on it though because it wasn't out, and I NEVER thought it'd be 20 mins.
I still think At Dawn was my favorite night so far, but the feeling I had leaving the show last night was the highest I felt of all the nights. The encore was basically a second full set and the energy wasn't lacking.
Don't know how anyone can really complain. Z was played with 110% full energy. Even on Beats 4U where the sound guy just cut Tommy's bass for 80% of the song and I could barely hear him close it out.

Sounds like some of you need some thicker skin or maybe check out some other boards and see how insanely "roses and lavender" this place is.
I think Hacksaw's opinion is ridiculous on last night's show. I thought it was an outstanding performance with insane energy, based on what I was watching on-stage and picking up from the people around me. "Lay Low" was my personal highlight and I don't see how anyone can say that it wasn't "jammed out." The interplay between Jim and Carl during the jam was one of the coolest moments for me of either night I've seen (ISM and Z).
I agree that parts of "Dondante" seemed forced. I thought the very same thing that Hacksaw says when I watched it. I don't feel like it derailed the show at all and, if anything, the way they brought the jam back into the song and finished it out saved the song from the ills of any "self-indulgent" jamming (which I don't dispute there being).
But the point is, Hacksaw should be able to say what he wants without you all whining about how not everyone was able to go. Of course not everyone was able to go, and that sucks. But there's no need to act like the band can do no wrong and any criticism of their performance is tantamount to blasphemy.
Hacksaw, I may disagree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death the right to say it.
Great show, though. Great fucking show. Can't wait for tonight.

2nd favorite show of the week (behind TF). Oh yeah, and after the show we witnessed a murder at some diner. Like, literally some dude shot and killed some other guy.

Yeah for real.
Wow ghosts, that is horrifying, I cannot imagine.
Hacksaw=major troll. That said, I felt like last night was the least energized of the 4 so far, definitely was lacking
something compared to the other shows, but still an absolutely amazing night of rock, was so excited to hear the lullabies legends and lies, that was a treat. These shows have been everything I ever expected and beyond, just wow!!
And to answer someones question from a few pages back, they didn't have bananas at nye 06 Fillmore show, Jim did the schpeel on bananas, but no fruit was tossed! And yes, pattrick has a gun, he was freaking huvkin those things. Jim throws like a girl! ;D
Last night was really amazing. I wasn't the excited for Evil Urges but after last night it has me really excited.
Took my friend to this show. He had seen them back in 2006 and he remembered really enjoying it but didn't start listening to them. I bought him a ticket and drug him. He was blown away. We ended up being around 5-10 rows back in the middle. From our vantage point, the sound was good, but seemed a little more muddled than the other nights. The energy in our area was great for the entire 1st set except for the dude in front of me who didn't even bob his head once while checking the Yankee scores incessantly. ;D ;D I really did anticipate them to stretch out OTR even more but they made up for it with Dondante. For me, they could have played it for 30 minutes with Carl just blowing one note for the last 10 minutes and it would have been perfect.
The 2nd set was interesting. I wanted to hear A Quick One for than anything and it was majestic and rockin'! It was also great to hear Where to Begin. However, for many parts of the floor, the energy seemed to dwindle because not everybody knew all the songs. How Do You Know had some rock in it!
The body surfer dude came flying in from behind me and as people behind me dropped him, I took a solid swinging back heel to the face. Also, two ridiculously wasted assholes came flying through sometime in the first set. Once pushed passed me but I stood in front of the other. I told him, "If you fuckin' try to get in front of me, I will fuckin' call security!" ;D ;D However stupid that sounded, it worked and dude left.
Good times, good times
ahaha, way to lay it down ruckus. next time hacksaw tries getting in front of you at a show do us all a favor and kick him in the balls.
so they did play How Do You Know? that's one of my favorites for sure. god damn. I don't know I kinda think the Z encore looks more awesome than the ISM's encore. even tho they are both heaven sent.
makes ya wonder if preservation jazz band is going to make an appearance or something for evil urges. Move on up seems a little predictable but I'm kinda expecting them to bust that out tonight. what do you guys think? It'd be awesome if they played all the new tunes that are ready for the new album. Then again if tonight is evil urges "and beyond" who knows it could be anything.
what are these shows clocking in at?
ps. nice work eating the bands protein penny, I knew you could do it. ;) they literally threw their proverbial penis's into the audience when they launched those banana's. Is that going to be a new thing at shows? throwing banana's? they're toying with us people.
Quote2nd favorite show of the week (behind TF). Oh yeah, and after the show we witnessed a murder at some diner. Like, literally some dude shot and killed some other guy.
horrible man. that shit sounds like it would have gave me post traumatic stress.
First, I blame Ruckus for the 1:00 am rumor.
[shaking fist] RUCKKKKKUSSSSSSSS!
I think we'll get a few covers but not as many. Maybe the staples from a few years back - get down on it, move on up, celebration. If not, I won't complain since I got my Quick One. I don't expect Sweet Nuthin or Lovin' Cup to make an appearance though.
I'm hoping for Ciruital, Friends Again, and maybe one or two more at least sketeches of songs.
cold sweat would be awesome.
We had a great time at the show last night outside of the guy and girl standing behind us that decided once the encore started that it was more important to talk about dying their hair and what they ate for dinner last night. Twice I had to turn around and ask them to keep it down. The second time I just yelled "I can't hear Jimmy!" lol
I thought the night was as good as it gets... everyone is entitled to their own opinions but the Hacksaws were definitely at last nights show. Which sucks, but what can you do.... just not let it bother your fun I guess... which we didn't.
THANK YOU MMJ FOR A LOVELY EVENING!!!
...and I loved Holly Miranda... and I really wish there weren't so many people talking during her whole set!

The Hacksaws were definitely out. In the first portion of Dondante, the quiet part, you could just hear a TON of chatter coming from the back. God I hate that.

I am thinking of producing another round of Ba-Ba-Bananas Bananas shirts...this time I will be using Cafe Press instead of the hand made iron shirts. I will let you all know once I get it together (next weekend is most likely)....

Out of curiosity, where were you standing? This happened to me. The girl even said "they like play so many slow songs" during Where to Begin and then the band came in and shut her up.
Guys, I am not a troll. These are just my opinions. I LOVED the first 3 shows, but like others have stated....This show was lackluster compared to the other shows this week. Dondante was boring, I'm sorry but it was.
Evil Urges will make up for it, I'm sure of that.

I was saying this at the show.. I am member of a few different boards.. Phish, DMB, Pearl Jam boards ect. This place is hands down, filled with the nicest group of people of any of the other boards I belong to.. It is not even close.
To me, it is refreshing to come here because everyone is so positive. However, there is nothing wrong with constructively discussing the good and not so good parts of this band. If there is any chance they read these boards, they need to know what their fan base is thinking. Not everything they do is going to be great, and there is nothing wrong with recognizing this once in a while.
Anyway, for me personally, I loved the shows and I had an amazing time! I am also real jealous that I am not at the EU show tonight!
Till we meet again guys!

I dig it. But there are ways to be critical. And there are ways to be critical in a douche bag way. I think the latter is unwarranted.
Criticism is necessary occasionally, constructive criticism that is.
jb, I guess I sorta disagree with the part about the band needing to know what it's audience wants. I think that's bullshit to some degree.
they should appease themselves before they appease us. that is the only way they'll make great music. if they're trying to fit into some mold a bunch of internet geeks try to make them fit in, wtf? it's not practical. The best thing in my mind is to let them run. let them do whatever the fuck they want and embrace them. they're still a working band for sure, lets not deny this fact. so to come here like a lot of new people have been doing, and just being straight up arrogant pricks about specific songs, when it's subjective, makes things tense and annoying. because when it comes down to it, not everybody here has the same favorite song and I think that's fairly obvious to everyone. we all have different tastes, but respect it when a songs flavor doesn't hit us right I think...
What makes this band play great shows and write great songs is partially due to the positivity and collective feel this crowd/forum has.
It's a bummer because everyone here is ultra accepting and a lot of people piss on that respect. which is unfortunate.
if the music didn't contain spells maybe things would be different.
I think being a MMJ fan is my biggest flaw.

I hear you to a certain degree... They should have the freedom to play what ever they want - and since we are the ones going to shows, and buying albums, and posters, and t-shirts and essentially providing them with the finances to keep making music, we have should have the freedom to discuss their music openly and honestly. That doesn't mean with have to be mean spirited about it, but it does mean it is ok to critical from time to time. And just because we are critical, that doesn't mean we still don't love the band. We just want them to be the best we know they can be.
As I said before, I have nothing negative to say about this band right now. I loved the ISM and Z shows, and I had an amazing time! But at long as the criticism stays constructive people shouldn't be ostracized for having an opinion.

I don't know I still thinking going to any musical performance and feeling like your entitled to something is bullshit straight up. whether you pay for the concert or it's free. the same argument helped ruined the dave matthews band fanbase. The band owes you nothing, they never will no matter what they do really.

again being critical assholes is what makes the dave matthews band fanbase suck balls, I know you're from antsmarching.org so I know you know exactly what I'm talking about. that place is the single worst forum for any band ever created, it's a cesspool of drivel and diatribe about why one person is right and the other person is wrong. there is no conversation there. Anytime this place starts to take on that vibe I will stand up to it because again if you feel entitled to something at an mmj show you probably shouldn't be there.
all the criticism I've heard so far is personal bitching with the exception that the bass cut out for It Beats 4 U, I see no reason to complain. even that is a technical issue the band has nothing to do with really. It's not like they plan for the sound to be shitty. so whenever I hear people say "this show sucked, the band sucked tonight because the ___ sound wasn't leveled right". I kinda laugh to myself about it. Again it's that whole "I think I'm entitled to this and that because I bought all this shit", attitude that bothers me. It's straight up delusion.
they owe us nothing. not a single fucking thing.
Chode was critical but he still came off as positive and well-intentioned. People like hacksaw are provocateurs, nothing more. it's annoying to read and more annoying to argue about.

It's straight up delusion.
they owe us nothing. not a single fucking thingChode was critical but he still came off as positive and well-intentioned. People like hacksaw are provocateurs, nothing more. it's annoying to read and more annoying to argue about.
Trust me when I say this... This site is extremely refreshing compared to antsmarching.org. And to be honest, Phantasytour.org (The main Phish site) is 100X worse then Ants - so I know exactly what you are talking about and I am 100% for keeping a positive vibe on this site - as well as within the fan base.
With that being said, I don't know the history of hacksaw's posts so if he is being a troll and I missed it, bravo for calling him out. However, I have seen a handful of cases on this site where a member expressed some displeasure with the band, and his/her opinion was immediately discounted. IMO, as long a member is staying constructive; the curtsy should be extended on both sides of the MMJ fence. A negative opinion can be positively discussed - and after reading your last post, I believe we are on the same page here..
QuoteQuoteQuoteQuoteCriticism is necessary occasionally, constructive criticism that is.
jb, I guess I sorta disagree with the part about the band needing to know what it's audience wants.
My 2 cents.
Hope everyone had a great time last night! Wish I was there!
I don't know I still thinking going to any musical performance and feeling like your entitled to something is bullshit straight up. whether you pay for the concert or it's free. the same argument helped ruined the dave matthews band fanbase. The band owes you nothing, they never will no matter what they do really.
I'm all for freedom to say what you want but somethings the little kids like hacksaw on here say are nonsense. I'm being very specific to hacksaw's style of posting. There is a difference between being critical to be a dick and constructive criticism. It doesn't take a rocket scientists to understand this.
again being critical assholes is what makes the dave matthews band fanbase suck balls, I know you're from antsmarching.org so I know you know exactly what I'm talking about. that place is the single worst forum for any band ever created, it's a cesspool of drivel and diatribe about why one person is right and the other person is wrong there is no conversation there. Anytime this place starts to take on that vibe I will stand up to it because again if you feel entitled to something at an mmj show you probably shouldn't be there.

We have had friendly arguments on here just as much as criticisms.
Hacksaw is most definitely a troll. I, myself, am a common troll on other sites (Fark.com has banned me on occasion). We smell our own!
Look in the "off topic" section and see the last two threads he started if you need more proof.
I think our concern here is that while we are generally friendly and whatnot, if cracks start to emerge and we let it go simply because we're not as bad as other forums...well that's how it starts.

I am in full support of this!
