BH - dont you knock me out the Top 10 dude >:(
made it home after the wild nyc storms and after a few drinks sitting down to listen to At Dawn on vinyl. It's always the same reaction - holy crap, this is freakin' unbelievable.
Really really psyched for all 5 of the shows but this is THE one that I am really just breaking out into random smiles everytime I just think about it.
When the fun of the actual show finally exceeds the excitement of just thinking about it, that is gonna be a real special night.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible!
:D : ;) :D
my fiancee bought me a ticket as a wedding present and i'm flying out right after we get back from our honeymoon. (it's very plain to see why i'm marrying this woman otherworldly creature). i simply cannot wait. i don't know how they're going to incorporate their ep's but this'll be the night they may break into the tasty morsels of sweatbees and chocolate and ice. i'm gonna have to bring a roll of duct tape to keep my head from exploding if they choose to bust out CAN YOU SEE THE HARDHELMET ON MY HEAD? i suppose i could otherwise bring a hardhat, but that would make headbanging a bit tough

so funny, i keep saying "THIS is the night i'm looking forward to most" to every album when i'm listening to it (steady stream of nuthin' but mmj in the buildup to T5). it changes every time :D
but really,
this is the album that i played over & over & over after i got it. the rest, as they say, is history. gonna be a wonderful night!

I love the Western Theme idea! We are getting close to Halloween anyway. I think I have a cowboy hat lying around somewhere! ;D
Any themes for the other nights???
i ordered a pair of those demon skull boot tops & if they arrive in time, i plan on sportin 'em at least once. i think some other folks bought them a few months ago & i thought it'd be pretty rad if there was a demon skull boot army one night ;D

I'll be there! Had to choose only one show and after much contemplation I had to go with At Dawn. None of my buddies could make it with work and all so I'm coming up from Baltimore by myself for the day. If anyone wants to meet Joel (the new guy coming from Canada, see his thread) and me for a late lunch at Zen Palate on TUESDAY, please PM me. It's a vegetarian Chinese restaurant within walking distance of McGee's. We're gonna be there at 2:30-ish then go to the pre-show right at 4.
My apologies for cross-posting 3 places. I figured that was less annoying than a whole new thread for this, which I realize has a pretty limited appeal (maybe none!). But, if you are in town with nothing to do and like vegetarian food (or are adventurous), the more the merrier. Just give me a heads up so I can get a table for us.

Must've been a real psychedelic night. At Dawn is one of the most atmospheric albums the band's done.

NO FUCKING WAY.....
Other random thoughts-
the venue wasn't as bad as feared but I still don't think that's the full crowd
Hopefully was a song I hadn't focused on getting psyched about but thought it was awesome (that was the song Carl used the bow on)
Phone Went West had Johnny and was awesome.... VERY extended jam with lots of new bits
Not sure Cobra was 24 mins but it was close - much longer than the 08 version they played a few times. This had all the bits including Jimmy's tapping and the weird lyrics at the end. Also had a Bo solo, which I was happy to see.
New forum guy Joel is a keeper.
To anyone debating going to McGee's pre-show- definitely worth it. The Jacket fans are the best. Of course, it's a pain in the ass trying to remember 2 names for everyone.
My ears are ringing badly.
yes fucking way. greatest show ever. load has been blown.
good lord that was amazing .. the encore set was was almost like one big segue . Miss You > Cobra was killer. very spacey/trippy tonight. hopefully was BEYOND !!!!
jim was in a great mood. he kept coming in front of the speaker to grin at us and be sassy .... and who doesn't like a sassy JJ??!!
OH and posters sold out in like 15 minutes or less. we got in (was 30'something in line) .. got our spot and liz went to get a poster and they sold out 2 people in front of her.

absolutely .. it'll take me longer than a week to get it all straight :D
bring ear plugs folks! i had some tonight and BIG DIFFERENCE .. i might try to just buy a big pack and if anyone needs, feel free to ask me for some. i had a pair tonight but lost them and i was like NOOOO .. thankfully someone had an extra pair.
I hope somebody recorded this. Cobra was so fucking bad ass. I can;t even get over it.

QuoteI hope somebody recorded this. Cobra was so fucking bad ass. I can;t even get over it.
this might be the first thing Hacksaw has posted I agree with. It was SO good.
being nearly deaf is not so punk rock either young man ;) .. wearing earplugs is pretty standard if you go to alot of (indoor) shows.

WOW Brooke......That's amazing.
un. fucking. real!
Ok, so I posted this in another thread - there was definitely a camcorder, looked high-end, situated near the lighting board. Is this what they use to simulcast on the TV monitors, or did someone do us all a huge favor?
QuoteI hope somebody recorded this.
It will be on nyctaper.com
(according to their fall schedule they posted about a month and a half ago)
Also, was it me or did tonight fly by, quicker than last night (without saying anything bad about last night, because there's nothing bad to be said)
JJ's Mic Jagger was deliciously good! Why did I forget about the limited Vinyl the past two nights... Damnit! :-?

PHONE WENT WEST!!!!!
holy shit that was incredible!!!
Nice to meet a couple more of you tonight.
I'm trying to write a review for some friends in an e-mail right now and I can't even find adjectives for the encore segment. What a complete mind fuck that was.
Also, that jam in the middle of Phone Went West is one of the sickest things I've ever seen them do. Absolutely unreal.
So, I have to head back to DC tomorrow morning, but may now very likely return for Friday and Saturday's shows.
i need to listen to cobra again
Phone Went West was when they transcended humanity and all that existed was energy in the form of MMJ. Also, they were clearly just showing off.
QuotePhone Went West was when they transcended humanity and all that existed was energy in the form of MMJ. Also, they were clearly just showing off.

nice! It's definitely why I chose tonight as the only show I was going to get to
I am sitting here at 2 AM having to go to get up in 5 hours unable to sleep, just amped with a giant smile on my face
Just spoke to a buddy of mine and described tonight's show
He had never even heard of MMJ and he was going "Damn" at my description
PWW and that encore were surreal
Danzig? The Stones? A FULL Cobra? Black Sabbath closer?
Just silly silly good
The setlist we got had "how do you know" on it but it was crossed out.
got some good videos ill post after I get home sunday, we were right in front of jim.
Br00ke, I gave jenn those ear plugs for you. They are lifesavers, the bass was super loud up front.
See everyone tomorrow
Bass was sick By the encore my chest literally hurt
QuoteI am sitting here at 2 AM having to go to get up in 5 hours unable to sleep, just amped with a giant smile on my face
Glad to know I'm not the only one. I've been trying to get to sleep for about 2 hours and it's just not happening. MMJ just made mush of my brain tonight.
Miss You + Cobra = Suddenly Dance Party. That has to be some of the most ridiculous shit I've ever witnessed. Even people who were seemingly glued to the floor for 2 hours were shaking their asses.
Can't sleep...ears ringing!!! Well worth it though.
Thought I'd unload these tracks from my phone.
Enjoy!

Check out some photos from Nights 1 and 2 here... enjoy! http://www.mymorningjacket.com/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1287490986/30#30
Carl played a bow of Hopefully???
Full Cobra???
Miss You?!?!?!?!?!?! :o :'(
There better be a bootleg.
Wow! The sound & stage prep definitely improved. It's 5:10am and I just got back to BK. The camaraderie of the fans (and band) is awesome.
Kyle, are you ok?
QuoteOk, so I posted this in another thread - there was definitely a camcorder, looked high-end, situated near the lighting board. Is this what they use to simulcast on the TV monitors, or did someone do us all a huge favor?
The camera was being used at the lighting board, he had a little tv monitor but I'm thinking they also used it for the other TVs... probably not for anything else since I haven't seen any other camera equipment

I suppose you weren't really listening then. To each there own though.

Br00ke, I gave jenn those ear plugs for you. They are lifesavers, the bass was super loud up front.
thank you so much !!!!!!!! lifesaver for sure, when i couldn't find mine i freaked out for a second. my ears were so eff'ed from monday night.
What??? "It was mediocre at best. I have no idea how people get off like it was better than churned butter. Preposterous"
CHURNED BUTTER AIN'T THAT GREAT MY FRIEND BY MMJ TERMINAL 5 IS. GLAD TO SEE A DEBBIE DOWNER MADE THE EFFORT TO POST. I'LL TELL THE GIRL WHO WAS MOVED TO TEARS MOST OF THE NIGHT SHE SHOULD HAVE CURLED UP TO SOME CHURNED BUTTER. DID YOU GO TO THE BATHROOM DURING PHONE WENT WEST? :-/
Miss You?
Black Sabbath??
Damn! Now I really wish I hadn't missed it. >:(
Looking even more forward to Thursday now!!
To the people that were there...
What time would one have to get there to get a rail spot on either balcony?
How's the view/sound from the 2nd and 3rd balcony?
Earplugs are for olds.

This show was awesome. IMO it is going to be hard to beat this night. The encore portion was just insane. Miss You into a full Cobra = BONKERS!
The band was really pushing themselves the jam in Phone Went West took them way out there. It was just so amazing to watch. Then you through in a huge monster version of Honest Man and How the Gods Kill. This was just too awesome.
Here is a kind of cool but low budget photo I took:

I am pumped the remaining shows, the band is really taking this opportunity to do something special for all us hardcore fans.

miss you into cobra was the highlight for me.
place seemed WAY more crowded than first night. really tired today.

wow.
honest man was incredible.
phone went west was everything i always dreamed it could be, but strangulation was too short. oh well.
the encore was awesome.
my face hurts.
QuoteNice to meet a couple more of you tonight.
Hey! We have a friend in common and he sent me your review...which I was going to post here b/c I thought it was great!
I used to live in DC... :) I'll be up for the Friday and Saturday shows. Hope that you can make it back. We can take a big cheesy grinning photo for Emery. ;)
QuoteEarplugs are for olds.
No, earplugs are for youngins' who want to be able to hear when they're old like me and still going to lots of shows with out the bother of tinnitus or just plain old hearing loss.
Ya heard! ;)
I thought the biggest surprise for me was Honest Man. They need to play it more live! Really rocked.
Great show. Loved the Stones addition (who wouldn't!).

The 45 min wait between opener and MMJ was a bit of a buzzkill, espec since we were packed in pretty good at that point.
Well here is my quick rant.
Got the LAST poster - Good
Hacienda- Glorified bar band = Terrible
Crowd- The worst crowd I have ever experienced at an MMJ show. Talking the ENTIRE show. This little girl took 300 TERRIBLE photos on both camera phone and regular phone. Frat bros and sis's were out and shitfaced in full effect. It really took away from the show.
However- Cobra, Phone Went West, BHighway, Hopefully were the highlights!

Disagree about Hacienda. I was into it. I do agree about the crowd, though. TONS of talking. Really aggravating.
hey there guys and gals. it was truly soul-gratifying to meet up with y'all last night. show was off-the-hinges, silly good. i'll hum all the way home

The funny thing is.....that "little girl" who took 300 terrible photos was doing so because she was having an amazing experience and wanted to capture the magic as best she could. She was apparently having a good time while you were getting annoyed by her.
The talking non-stop and overly-drunk people can kill a good show sometimes. I'll give you that. I imagine it was pretty packed so that made it harder to just walk away from annoying peeps.

Gotta agree on the talking...seems like people felt the need to blab during most of the mellow At Dawn numbers. Unclear to me why you would come to a concert to talk the whole time with your frat buddies...just put the album on at home and drink beers if your looking for background music.
SO happy I was surrounded by such FANTASTIC forum people who were WAY into the show and not talking!
This was such an unbelievably intense show for me. Honest Man - holy shit; Phone Went West - I think I somehow sprained my wrist. Un-fucking real; Strangulation -- almost TOO powerful for me. Miss you - WOW.
Bob's highlights were X Mas Curtain, Honest Man, and the fact that he knew the last song and I didn't :) Black Sabbath....go figure :)
I can't believe how these guys continue to pull this shit off, and boy did Jim look like he was having fun!
Very excited to see Carl tonite and give him my FULL undivided attention!
Hoping the crowds don't continue to beome a burden as the week goes on, but as my 7 yr old daughter says, "you gotta make the best of it..."
sticky want tapey. :'(
Where people standing that they heard a lot of people talking? I was about 10 feet from the stage in front of Jim and after If it smashes down and I Needed It Most I commented to my wife and friends that it was so nice how quiet it was. They all agreed.
If you are standing near the bar or on the balconies I think you are going to hear more chatter..
Taking non stop photos is wrong but you don't have to let it annoy you.

I appreaciated the massive shushes going on during It Smashes Down
It's just going to get worse.
That said, I don't think it's been that bad yet. There were these two guys next to me (I'm about to shit talk, sorry if you're a forum member), one of the older people I was next to, or at least they looked old, was making out like a hormonal teenagers to the point it got really, really awkward.
I had to laugh though, because their first makeout session was after the guy started singing Bermuda Highway to her in a quiet falsetto. Good for him if that's all it takes.

From the third floor, it was quite loud, but only during more quiet moments. And when the shushes started, they were pretty effective.
I did notice that in my area, anyone who was at the rail of the balcony was quiet. The chatter came from people socializing at the bar or sitting in the lounge area.
As far as pics, from above, it's a sea of blue screens. Everyone's got their phone out. It's sort of strange actually.
It was really great meeting a ton of the forum members last night, didn't rage up front with the crew though, once I start drinking I have the bladder of an 80 year old woman after 5 cups of coffee, and it was crazy packed up there, tried coming back up there once and decided against it. Place was absolutely more packed last night than the first and it's only gonna get worse. The chatty kathies were super annoying, I was doing my best to tune them out. Show was absolutely amazing... what they did to phone went west almost caused my head to explode, just beyond amazing!
Taking photos does not bother me, but this girl held her big ass sprint evo up for 5 minutes at a time. You couldn't see past the damn thing. She was taking TERRIBLE pictures, she couldn't even see the thing, she just held it up and kept snapping photos. It was seriously aggravating.
@whoever said that she was taking so many photos cause she was having a good time and trying to capture it: Give me a break. Taking 500 photos on two different cameras does not = having the time of your life. It was unreal annoying.

As long as you are really enjoying the show I can't get mad at someone for talking. If it is too much or too loud it can be annoying. But I am guilty of saying a few words to my friends next to me as my face melts away in between songs. I spent most of the night just singing my soul out with JJ. It just keeps getting better. Can't wait for Thursday, Friday and Saturday!!! :D

I don't have a problem with snapping photos. I do get annoyed with people who insist on video taping with cell phones, especially upfront. You can't honestly think that your cell phone is going to really capture anything more than static and bright lights.
I liken it to a nice sunset. You can take a lot of pictures for the memories or artistic merit, but you need to stop once in a while and enjoy the show for yourself through your own eyes and not a 3 inch viewfinder.

any of these shows. I have been seeing MMJ play live since Johnny Quaid was in the band and would absolutely love to be there to have all those memories come flooding back.
So, you have a problem with someone taking a lot of "terrible" pictures in front of you while MMJ plays At Dawn (1 of my all time favorite albums by anyone) in its entirety w/Johnny Quaid. Sorry, I cannot relate to your pain. :-/

So do you think she was having a shitty time and that's why she chose to keep taking pictures?
All I was trying to say is that she was having a good time and you were annoyed by her taking photos. If her photo-taking blocked your line of sight, you could easily have asked her to stop :). If it wasn't blocking your line of sight, then what's the real problem?
Taking a ton of photos and videos can be a tad annoying at times - I get it. But nobody complains when we see a ton of photos and videos show up online after the show.

That's fine, but the vast majority of cell phone video consists of indistinguishable sound and indistinguishable lights. I don't think anyone should be expected to suck it up and deal with someone holding a phone/brightly lit screen in their face, blocking their view of a concert they paid good money for simply because someone else wants to have the proof they were there for every moment of that concert.
As with all things in life, it's fine in moderation. But I've been to shows where moderation is the duration of the cell phone's battery life.
This is also why I don't go on the floor though.
Penny Lane, I am way more handsome than Johnny. I'll send you a few private photos if you'd like...

Good points.
When I go to shows I do my best to not bother people if I'm taking a video or photo.
I don't take videos on my phone because they suck and you can't tell anything anyway. I will take one or two photos on my phone so I can make it a background or something later.
As for my camera, I take some photos, but a majority of the time it's too dark to even make out what's going on. So I don't take a ton of photos with my point and shoot digital camera.
I do, however, take a few videos of songs. I have a small music blog where I post them all and also upload them to youtube. I like having a full song, not just the first 2 minutes or something like that.
Unlike others, I try my hardest to consider everyone around me. When I'm taking a video, I usually keep the camera in front of my face, right underneath my eyesight. So basically what I'm seeing is what's on the camera. The people behind me aren't blocked by the camera - since my head is already blocking them somewhat. I also don't hold the camera in the air cuz that blocks people behind me.
Another thing I notice is that sometimes people in front or next to me will notice I'm taking a video and then try and get out of the way or something. I always tell them "please - don't change anything you were doing. don't let me affect your experience." I have no problem if they get in front of the screen and block the video for a few seconds because they are dancing.
I like taking videos because I like watching videos on Youtube. I also like to not block anyone or hinder their concert experience in any way.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-video, but there's a difference when you know that video is for the benefit of everyone and it's just your own little digital pile of spit.
For example: LasVegas, or whoever's videos he's posting, are a godsend because I get to listen to PWW right now at work. Same with the Circuital comment from above.
Photos don't bother me as much because they're not really likely to interfere for entire songs and some come out accidentally awesome.
I can confidently say that coming to New York to witness this is the best decision I have ever made in my life!

Yay for Ralph!! So glad it has been worth the LONG trip!!
My friend I was with got some great video. Up on youtube already. Camera died though about 2 minutes into Cobra =( so anything after that is not around but he got the goodies- PWW in completion as well =) Good quality.

ralph out of everyone I am most excited for you to be there. This trip for you is probably the longest and most expensive. Being from so far away, you fucking deserve to have the time of your life!

There is a link to some good vids from last night. Also a ton of great ones from the philly show. Enjoy.

I definitely get what you're saying man. At a Yim show I recorded one song on my iPhone, just so at any moment i can get my phone out and relive that amazing moment. On the other hand, if someone was holding a screen in my face for 25 minutes I would be mad at the distraction. Basically, I'm agreeing with you - moderation.

every time i look at Ralph, he's smiling. :) ;)
i'm happy for him, too.
wait, did Johnny jam this night too? LOOKS FUCKING AWESOME. i love this band too much, i need to quit
I just changed all my passwords to everything to JohnnyQuaid!
First night I was up close and my brain was melted. Second night I was with cig smokers who wanted to leave our amazing spots after hacienda to go on the rooftop; I was stuck in the back and it kinda sucked. I will not be anywhere else but the first five rows or on the balcony from here on out.
Pww was so dope!
I need to sneak some weed in for tomorrow. _

interesting blurb from Chris Robinson on cell phones at shows. I don't like him or his music, but its funny.

From the 3rd floor balcony, it smells wonderfully herbal in that place. I don't think you'll have an issue unless you get nasty paranoia because Security does seem to prowl most of the night. Hell if you're near me I'll make sure to stand big to make sure they can't see you even if I'm not doing it myself.

At the risk of crowding my spot, I'm really content being on the balconies. I typically head down to the floor during the last song so that I'm not standing in a stairwell for an hour waiting for people to move, and by that point the band looks totally different. But if you can get the balcony rail, you won't be let down, and you're near a bar at all times and you can say to your smoking friends "I'll hold our spot while you go outside"
I've smoked in Terminal 5. It helps to be discreet about it and also try to get in the middle on the floor. That's the best spot. If you're on the sides it makes it easier for security to spot and get to you.

You're just answering all my questions, aren't you!? Yeah man... I think I'll bring one along up to the 3rd floor balc, and hopefully it's chill enough I can find a quick minute to smoke. Not that I NEED it, but it's just gonna make 'steam engine' that much better!

We had zero issues puffing either nights. We were fairly close to the stage & basically in the center of the crowd. I didn't see a single security member in the crowd. It's super hard to navigate around if your in the pack. Hence why I didn't leave my spot for a cig break or to get a beverage. Play it smart & safe & you'll have no issues :)
hasn't been an issue on 3rd floor either of the first two nights, but i would suggest being discreet both getting it in and smoking it.
one hitter/bowl probably better idea than a joint. just sayin'...
i was up front on the floor / one person from the rail and we had no problems smoking. not that we stood there and smoked the entire time. discreet is key obviously.. just duck down for a second and you'r all good. sounds like getting into the venue they give you a good pat down and for girls they search purses thoroughly.. stashing things in your boobs is easy if your a girl.

came to suggest this. one hitters or small bowls you can get away with damn near anywhere.
How the Gods Kill! I dont know how much more of this I could handle.
Thanks so much for the PWW video. I will be watching that EVERYDAY!!! :)
no problems at all smoking where we were either. I was on the floor by Jim, halfway between the stage and the bar.

The reason I prefer joints to bowls is that with a bowl you sometimes have to light it each time (unless you get a good cherry going) and the flash of light from the lighter can be bright. Joints you light once and just keep the joint held at your side when not hitting it.
Of course, the problem with joints is that they continue smoking when you're not hitting it.
What i'm saying is.......do what you like ;D
can't wait til thursday.
I can also say for a fact they started checking cigarette packs when I was in line. So keep that in mind
3rd floor is the smallest area too, and I've seen two types of security patrolling, something like SIC Event Staff in a black shirt and typical yellow-shirt security folk.

I always preferred a j because the evidence is gone after you've had your fun
QuoteTaking photos does not bother me, but this girl held her big ass sprint evo up for 5 minutes at a time.
It was unreal annoying.
i totally agree. I have been to countless jacket shows and last nights video iphone taking was unbearable. This guy totally kept videoing EVERYTHING, granted the first night I was unable to make it and i youtubed some videos just to "get a feel". But this guy was nonstop and I could see what he was taking and it was sh*t!. Live in the moment for once and take in the memory of Johnny Q playing with Carl for Phone Went West! oh wait that guy was such a D-Bag he didn't video that one he went for a piss break!??? Can't wait for Thursdays show, but it will be filled with even more idiots I'm afraid.

Different people enjoy different things. Even concert experiences. Why should we judge what someone else is doing so harshly? If they were blocking your view or being super loud and not paying attention then that's annoying. Someone who is taping the show clearly likes the band and are there for the same reasons you are. No need to judge them because they enjoy the show in a different way :)
Keep your mind open. Maybe that guy was recording some of the videos you looked up on Youtube from the night before? You never know. If someone's video-taking is blocking the view for yourself or others....say something and hopefully the person taping will realize what they are doing is bothering others. If it's blocking the view and you don't say anything then he's not really to blame.
But if you say something and they shrug you off or ignore you - screw 'em. Grab the camera/iphone and throw it ;D ;D

Shoes. Wallet, lady friend's bra (if she's willing....don't try and hide it on her). behind your ear if you have long hair. taped to your thigh. in your tighty whities.

IIRC they used that as the intro music before they came on stage
Long time Jacket fan but not really active on the forum...hope to change that! Was great meeting many of you in line the past couple of days. Back home now and depressed as hell that I can't make the remaining three shows.
Question- does anyone know what the little diddy was that Jim did on the banjo that lead into the Sabbath cover last night? It's killing me!
