I was looking for some good music on the night off of the T5 run, perfect!! I also got tickets to his Schubas show in Chicago on 10-9. This has been a good morning.
Do you think anyone from the band will join him on stage?
I'm gonna buy tickets tomorrow. Can I get in on this RSVP?

Clutch (Favorite band #2) is playing the same night @ the Hammerstein, but I'll be in MMJ mode so I decided on Carl. :) CARL!
Eff Isbell, Jesse Sykes is the one to see on that bill! WOW!

I can explain it to you now. ;D Jesse Sykes tours FAR less frequently than Isbell so she's the can't-miss act on that bill, in my opinion. Backed by a former Whiskeytowner, no less. And she's fantastic.

It's a time warp but a must see! NYC's oldest bar
(might be the US's oldest bar, not sure)
It's only about a block away. There's a show before Carl's so it won't help to get there too early and also we have a seated reservation already. This could be the night to tie one on.

I'm staying in Summit, NJ, pretty much right outside the city. And as far as I know he's not going to any, but that could change. Tom, his name is. Discoball Tom, haha.
outside of going during the day... every time i've tried to go to mcsorely's it's too crowded (+ it's so tiny in there). i think it'd be a great spot (i've been wanting to go back for a while) but maybe we should have a backup just in case?

Anyway, I am down to help organize again if help is needed... Super excited to see all you crazy jacket fans again, it has been too long! :D
BTW, if we get enough heads I am sure we can find a bar that will let everyone pay a flat rate for apps and drinks for a few hours.. Just a thought ;)

hey JD,
i found a place (McGhee's) on 55th and 8th that's pretty close and has good happy hour specials and the manager said we could have the 2nd floor and our own bartender. i haven't started a roll call thread for it yet, but if you have any other suggestions, let me know. i was thinking all week for the MMJ shows (McGhees)...just a central place that's fairly close..
this is NOT for WED--NOT for Joe's Pub night. That is downtown --if people can take the train to Union Square--it's about a 10 min walk down there...plus Carl's show starts at 9 so we should be closer to Joe's pub and maybe meet somewhere around Union square (if people don't want to do McSorleys--which was my suggestion)...i think it might be a bit crowded there, but it's something that people will want to see anyway..and if it's earlyish on a Wed, it won't be bad at all.
oh ok, gotcha Penny..sounds good to me!

I got carried away this morning.
Did anyone go to his nashville show? I haven't read anything about Carl playing live yet. Anyone have a review?
I posted this in another thread, but in case anyone is interested, since it's for Wednesday:
There is a charity wine tasting on Wed Oct 20th 6:30 - 8:30. It's for Robin Hood which is a fantastic poverty-fighting organization in NYC.
I hesitated posting this here, because listing a $150/ ticket wine tasting just reeks of elitist BS that could get me flamed. But, it is for a fantastic cause, and if anyone here loves wine, or wants to support Robin Hood, or just has money to burn to get a good buzz on, you might want to check it out.
$110 is tax-deductible and you also get a $50 gift card from Zachy's, a local wine store, if you buy tix this week.
You also get a free high-speed express taxi ride with Magh33ta from the tasting at 8:30 to get to Joe's Pub by 9 pm for Carl's show.
Info is
http://2010winetasting-homepage.eventbrite.com/
Lastly, the wines they are pouring are ridiculously good. I should be in good form by Carl's!
I have an extra ticket to this show I'd love to sell.

yeah but you and the Bobster are staying in the city fri or sat, right? we are going to get sloppy mrs. jersey!!
Bobster! Love it!! So many balls in the air right now :P juggling childcare/work/domestic responsibilities etc....but we will indeed have a rock star night!
we were trying to stay the night on friday, but will have to be home for saturday anyway to play soccer mom...so it may not work... we shall see what will be! Either way, we will celebrate P-Lane!
I'm gonna have these tickets tomorrow night so anyone that I got a ticket for, REMIND ME to give it to you... I won't be at the meet up early Tues and it sounds like Wed will be hectic. (B-have, I'll hang onto yours or give it to Crispyy)
penny, i will be at the preshow tomorrow. how do you want payment for the carl? money? booze? ...
Penny -- Are you still holding a ticket for me?

This is going to be the perfect way to spend Wednesday night! I love this venue.......we are going to practically be able to reach out and touch him....... :) ;) :D. Oops it's me Trish again.....I don't think bob wants to reach out and touch snowy. :D :D :D
Who all needs tickets for this still?
I think waltfredo has extras, too.
So far the meetup plan is McSorley's around 7. :)

i would definitely like a ticket to this if you still have any

I thought I'd have a couple extras but I think I'll only have! I know Waltfredo has some tix though, also Haldon and DanZ are looking for 1, too.
Are there still tickets for Carl? I would be so grateful, this week is blowing me away. I have been a forum voyeur but rarely post, have to say the MVP hands down is Miss Penny Lane, you rock!
;D
i might skip the show (ticket going to woodynymph) as this working everyday thing is sorta tiring and i wanna be 210% to rage on thursday night. that said, i may change my mind & hit the show too and i am absolutely coming to the meet up. i feel like there are alot of you i haven't met :)
Awesome!! It has been a good week. I suspect the meetups at mcgees are gonnna get smaller and smaller as we all go over earlier.
There should still be tix available. Box office opens at 10.
We have a huge reservation, but 4 or 5 backed out so we should still all be able to get those tables.
EDITED: Just checked. Not sold out, you should be able to buy these at the box office.
Awesome
I still plan to be there. Looking forward to it!

Haldon just went to the Box Office and bought a ticket today and they said they'd add a chair for him. Try calling, Dave. I bet you can.

Just one more awesome thing that happened this week.

That was cool - thanks everyone!
Me and j_rud are in possession of patricks drum sticks.
What an incredible experience tonight was.
Awesome. Had seats RIGHT on the stage. Talked to the whole band minus jim and plus Johnny Q for a good hour after the show. Such a small, awesome experience.

Also, the tailgate outside was fucking priceless. Haha, thanks for the beer guys, whoever you are.
Great looking buncha peeps representing in NY!
You know how you see footage of tiny, awesomely intimate venues and maybe 25 lucky people who somehow found their way to the stage, and you think "Man, I wonder how they pull that off. That must be crazy". Thats exactly what this was, and it was incredible.
We were waiting outside while Dierks Bentley was still playing when Tommy and his wife walked by. He was gracious enough to BS for a few minutes. Asked us if we had seen Carl live before and began to tell us about the loops and other stuff he does but he stopped himself, smiled and said "Well I don't wanna spoil it for you" before heading inside.
The seats were ridiculous (thanks Penny!) and Carl sounded great. No doubt in my mind he can have a successful solo career. Retired/Carried Away/Questions was a great run of songs, with Questions seeing Carl loop a beat, a vocal track, and the pedal steel only to come back over it all with the guitar. Guy is f*cking talented.
Afterward it seemed like the entire board was milling about the floor when the band came out to put their gear away. I dont imagine anyone has seen that in quite a few years. Carl came out on the floor and talked/signed and was still doing so when we bailed a half hour later. He mentioned how cool he thought it was that he's seen so many people at all of the shows so far, its something that doesnt seem to be lost on any of them.
Talked to Patrick for a good 20 minutes or so, he's gotta be one of the friendliest dudes I've ever met. I asked him if it was hard to tone it down for a set like tonights. He said "Nah, not at all. This is Carl's night. Besides, I'd drown him out in 5 fucking seconds!". I figured this would probably be the only time I'd have the chance to do so, so I nodded towards his sticks and said "Hey man, you think I can have one of those?". He smiled and said "Tell you what, how about 2?". Really nice guy, and really gracious with every single person who approached him.
I'm with Penny, this has been my favorite night of the week so far...
Word, J Rud. Great write-up.
I gotta be at work in a few hours, I'm so revved up.
I love that venue, it's my favorite in NYC.
Love love love love love everything that happened tonight.
It's great to be alive and be a Jacket fan (and be in NYC right now!)
Might I add that hanging with ALL of you fine folks this week is just as awesome to me as going to the shows. So thank all of you, to the ones I'm seeing again to the ones I've just met. Thank you all. This week is a fucking trip.

Thanks for making me feel like I was there for awhile.I too was once blessed with a band encounter and they truly are the most humble, kind and gracious dudes on planet Earth. It always bugs me that they don't really understand what they mean to us but nights like this prove they do.MMJ and their fans got a special little thang goin' on. :) You guys enjoy the rest of the ride and I'll see those of you coming in the hometown next week.
Wow!!!! Seems like everyone had an incredible time. The pics are great. That's really cool that they all came out and chatted with everyone afterward. It must have been something awesome to meet Johnny!!!
Right now I feel like this:
:) :D :o 8-) :-/ :'(
aw there was a group picture and i missed it .. for shame!!! agreed with penny .. maybe the best night so far. the gathering @ mcsorely's was loads of fun and as everyone said .. carl's show was absolutely terrific. much fun chatting with johnny quaid (trish got tons of pix of us with him) and all the other guys. jim's parents were there. and .. yeah, just an all around fantastic night.
it was supposed to be my off night but i decided to go for drinks at least and i'm SO glad i stayed out for the show and all.
i have to go to work in a few hours ... not near enough sleep this week but i guess i'll live ;)

readyyyyyyy for tonight!!!
For sure, going to this was the best decision I made this week so far (the worst was following Ruckus's lead and drinking bourbon). I posted the setlist above but now that I got a few hrs sleep, I'll add to what everyone else has said
a) I took a taxi to the bar and we pulled up to this dark, deserted building called Public Theater. I told the cab driver "this isn't right" and he said "yes, 475" and pointed to the door. I said "hmmm", this isn't a bar and while I'm staring out of the window looking puzzled, Carl walks by. Complete gut reaction, I yelled "Carl, where the hell is the bar? I came to see you play!" and he turned and said "up there around that wall" and pointed me in the right direction. Now I always figured my first band interaction would involve me saying something brilliant and witty, but not so much. Still, I took it like the Owl sighting in Maine - a good sign of things to come.
b) that was one cool venue. What J_rud said was exactly right - you looked around and just thought "how lucky are we?" I really couldn't stop smiling.
c) thought Carl was great. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, right? ;) But repeated listening to the album didn't prepare me for how enjoyable the show would be. Most of his solo songs relied heavily on his looping pedal, and being so close and getting to see him tinker away with his gear and create some amazing sounds was really cool
d) when they started Carried Away, the whole place (well at least our group, which was 1/2 the place) roared. You'd have thought they were playing a Jacket tune. I love that we've adopted this song.
e) The forum people are great. I was telling this to new guy Joel, who admitted shyness before McGee's on Tuesday. If you are a lurker, don't skip a chance to hang with these people. Very happy to put so many names to faces and forum names.
f) I saw a few pictures being taken but not sure about video. I don't usually take video as my phone sucks and it takes me out of the moment. But on this night, I hope someone captured some and will post so everyone can see Carl's magic.
g) I too had plenty of band interaction post-show. My first conversation with Tom was classic geek fan-boy.... El Caporal came on overhead and I said "hey tommy are you guys playing this one night?" He stopped and tilted his head to listen and looked puzzled. So I said "It's El Caporal" (like I need to tell the band what their songs are) and he still seemed confused and said "not sure, man" or something like that. I walked away feeling a little awkward, wanting to slap my forehead Chris Farley-style.
h) but other conversations went well. Patrick is the nicest, most generous guy around. Johnny Q is one cool cat. And Carl himself, glad to see him get his moment. I thanked him for giving me the directions and yelling at him from the cab, and he said "no prob man, glad you made it". So the night ended well. Great memories.
wow, what a cool night you all had. wish i could have made it. been to joe's pub many times and agree it is one of the best in the city.

Hello hello! Great meeting you last night! Awesome stories! I myself went dyslexic and took my cab to 245 instead of 425 hahahah there was a 243 then just an empty, empty lot.... I eventually righted myself though, and wow what a nice spot! It was so unbelievable to see everyone from the board dominating the dining room, what a good feeling! I couldn't agree more with all you've said! I'll be in shock clear through Christmas (or the rest of my life, actually!) about how great this week is... HOW ABOUT THAT JUNK! Heard the first few notes and my ears perked up so fast nearly knocked me off my seat 8-) And I love the Chris Farley reference (though I'm sorry you were feeling in his position!) I'd love to see him interview any of the boys, I can just imagine it now....
Well shewt, I'm beat as all hell but what an insane awesome night!! SO AWESOME to meet everyone!!!

I thanked him for giving me the directions and yelling at him from the cab, and he said "no prob man, glad you made it". So the night ended well. Great memories.
SEE YA TONIGHT!! :D
Glad I got to meet the famous woodnymph last night.
Heard all about you after the Ramble!! See yas later!
Oh man, there's the group shoot! Hahahah what a great crew.... I think the plate in my head was seriously reflecting off Tommy's face!
Great job gettin them in for the pic, Ms. Lane! Super great to meet you finally too!!!
See you allllll later!!!! 8-)
QuoteHoly fuckin shitballs. This whole hillbilly forum group spent the entire night hanging with Mr. J Quaid and the band. Pics to follow, and BOY are there some pics. This was my favorite night of the week so far.
:) :D :) :D :) :D
Nova! When are you getting here? Tomorrow? :D :)
QuoteMight I add that hanging with ALL of you fine folks this week is just as awesome to me as going to the shows. So thank all of you, to the ones I'm seeing again to the ones I've just met. Thank you all. This week is a fucking trip.
Couldn't agree any more Ghosts. Thanks to everyone for making this a brilliant 1st half.
Sorry Mahg33tah :-[

Yes...I am so excited! Should be in the city by 3! Planning to get to McGees for pre-game! :D :)
FiddleCasT5o nice videos! Hoping my iphone stops acting up so I can post my videos from last night.
So nice to meet all of you last night, Thank you all for your gracious hospitality, esp. miss Penny Lane.
Highlight of my night (besides the obvious: tailgating country style in the big apple, minus the grill) thanking Johnny for rocking out the past few nights, while waiting in line for the unisex bathroom. Then I got to thank Bo, both guys told me "there's three more nights" lol of course I know this, but it helped solidify that Johnny will be continuing to come out on stage. Esp OBH, I have a feeling tonight they will rock that harder than ever. ;D

Great meeting you, too!
Now you need to join us the rest of the week for festivities!
Those bathrooms WERE weird? WTF is up? I think the other part is under construction. If I had to pee next to Bo, ..well..I don't know if I could

i have off work tomorrow, i'll be at McGees by that time hopefully...need to get out EARLY and get a spot.
Well, well, well...nothing that I can say that hasn't been said eloquently already!
Still beaming from the wonderful nite...meeting Johnny, Carl, Tommy, & Patrick. Enough cannot be said for the kindness and approachability of these massively talented guys.
Most touching was talking with Johnny about his absolute love and affection for the band, and how he has such respect and high regard for Carl and all the guys. Of course, I would not be me if I didn't ask the deeply personal questions about his leaving the band, and how that has been for him. He was so gracious and kind and genuine. It just made my love of this band that much more. I can't believe how this continues to blow my mind.
I enjoyed particularly, after howling out Snowy Bramble - getting the first hand story from Carl.. I already knew the gist of the story, but hearing it from the horses mouth was just unbelievable.
Patrick is just the kinda guy I could hang with for hours! We were talking about topics ranging from cooking to when Bob high fived his Mom during Run Thru at NYE MSG to the fact that his lovely wife Brigid (whom we met in Philly) was only able to attend the first two shows of T5 due to her work schedule.
So great to see Tommy & lp....of course. Got a chance to tell Tommy how much we appreciate how this band is always "on point" and so tight...he was so kind and gracious.
To all of the forum members, I am So thrilled to have found you all, and to enjoy this ride together. This has been an amazing few months of Jacket, and I will cherish it for always!!

Yes the peeing pressure was apparent. Nothing like giving someone a compliment with the sounds of flushing in the background. Deft will be joining you all, ready to get down on it.
Forgot to mention the obvious, Carl was fantastic, hoping he comes to LA for a show in the near future! Great to see the band supporting one another literally and figuratively, such nice guys.
Love the way I quoted you Penny, guess I showed why I don't post often, tech. challenged Yeah!

Would you mind expanding on this a bit? I have been wondering for years what the Snowy Bramble is all about. Love the nickname.
LOVE the pix Trish. Wow, what a night you guys must have had. Hope to see you again tonight and Beth wanted to know if there was any chance you and Bob could join us for a drink at McGee's before Fridays show.
Geez, your photo scrapbook is looking mighty fine. ;)

Sweet pics too everyone! Thanks as always for posting!! That night might've been my favorite too!! Had a nice red wine buzz myself 8-) and Carl's songs are sooooo sweet..... hangin out and talkin with everyone was great too (forum peeps & band peeps alike!) :)
Can't believe that it was just one week ago at this time that we were gathering at McSorley's and preparing for the Carl show. It was the first time that I met many of the forum folks from outside the NYC area re:ruckus, etc.....and I feel like we are long time friends.........many thanks to Penny Lane for organizing this outing which turned out to be an unreal experience........6 concerts in six nights and meeting most of the band plus Johnny? Are you kidding me? Don't want to ever let go of this feeling.

ya'll got me going "awwwwwwwww" all over the place :-*
Always up for a party. Especially with all of you cool cats, and particularly because all I want to do when we have parties here is play mmj for everyone. Finally I have found people who can appreciate that!
Sigh sigh sigh. One week ago right now !!!
It's me trish. Bob doesn't sigh much.
Here is carl's recounting if the snowy bramble story:
They were on tour and he had a little stuffed animal called snowy and he was really mastering the steel pedal guitar and Jim told him we will have to come up for a name for you because most pedal steel guitar players have nicknames like muddy, show bud etc. So he came up with snowy
bramble. There is a brief bit about it on this Amsterdam recording from 2008. Too funny! sorry for the run on sentences....touch screens freak me out
Here is the snowy bramble story carl told us:
This was a great night one of my favorites. Carl did amazing...simply amazing. I noticed Carl looked super tired after the show when he was heading out. I remember Johnny and Tom were super cool and talked to everyone for a good bit. This is one of many reason I love this band. They are really nice to their fans.
Did any one get video of Carl? I was right in front of him and didn't want to make it be known I was recording him.

Awesome! If you have a party in Jersey, I will be over in two seconds.
Love the Snowy Bramble story. And I loved when you yelled his name at the show.
Trish is already working on the playlist for the party!
Just finally getting back to the forum. These stories are priceless. I think I spent the whole time meeting new forum members on this night and ignored the band alltogether! ;D
Ghosts, I'll never forget stealing Budweisers from the Dierks crew with you and Soulshine! Classic.
And ohhh, Snowy, what a great show.
In addition to the Snowy story, I love the All Birds Say story.
