Title: Secret Machines Update
Post by: stoliontherocks on Apr 27, 2004, 02:53 PM
May 18--Secret Machines new record comes out!!! They're still selling the record online though, as well as the first one. Does anyone have any rarities or B-Sides to trade?
 ;D ;D ;D
Listen to the NEW record: http://www.bandbuilder.com/secretmachinesplayer/index.php?ref_code=D23469

Listen to the OLD record: http://audiolunchbox.com/album?a=3734

Amazing! Actually I'm shocked that ALB even has the old one, quite hard to find really so I suppose that counts as a rarity? I guess I just want more Secret Machines, heh!

Oh, no prob!  Secret Machines are 3 guys, their influences are Pink Floyd, Neu, Brian Eno, Can, Tangerine Dream, The Band, My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized, Neil Young....the music is described as ambient, organic, spatial, ecstatic, hypnotic, and psychadelic.

They started in Dallas but are now based in NYC, and are compose of former members of Tripping Daisy, Captain Audio, When Babies Eat Pennies, and Comet.

New York Press calls the NYC's "best live band"

They just got signed I guess, and their new record is coming soon--their first one was released independently.

I hear MTV is just salivating over their upcoming video...just a rumour though...

I really stress that these guys are going to be huge, trust me on this one...

And of course, they always have their first album on AudioLunchbox, which is this site that lets you download anything with no rights management crap and has ONLY indie music!  That link is here: http://audiolunchbox.com/album?a=3734

Always on the lookout for new music, I did a little digging on this band.  They were pretty good, but the powers that be led my computer to a group called The Fruit Bats (Brian Deck of Secret Machines was a member).  Excellent mellow alt-country.  Same vein as MMJ.  I'm looking for a CD, but will probably end up ordering one.

Uh oh.  The "alt-country" thingy again... :P

Somehow, I knew I would get called out for categorizing.  I'm sure there's a 5 page thread on here arguing the category/no category/new category that MMJ falls in.  Wait...I didn't mean that...they don't fall into a category.
What was the consensus of the alt-country argument, if it did exist?

Another note:  Any Hayden fans out there, new album out next week.

No worries mate, I was remembering an interview with Jim where he expressed a disdain for that particular tag...maybe I'm wrong.  He's said many times that MMJ is rock n' roll, which encompasses everything from Little Richard to Jet to Etta James to AC/DC, etc.

And I don't recall the outcome of that thread...hmmmmmm.

And today I learned something as well.  Very nice, much thanks in tipping me off to that.  There was a huge review on Secret Machines in the new EW, and they didn't even mention the backgrounds in that depth...
