Title: Arthur Russell
Post by: CC on May 25, 2004, 10:59 AM
Any of you connaisseurs ever heard of Arthur Russel? Got a compilation cd with one of his songs called The Platform On The Ocean and it kinda blew my mind for 8 minutes long. Can't stop listening to it...

Arthur Russell was an, sort of, avant-garde experimental cellist who played with Allen Ginsberg, Philip Glass and Rick Albani amongst others.
Try to get hold of the album "the world of Arthur Russell", think you'll like it.

Unfortunately he died of AIDS in '92

Very joy Division that song "platform".It made my stereo wobble, or was it me, dunno, but great track anyhow.
It amazes me how much music lies undiscovered around the planet.I can't possibly imagine how many great things there are yet to hear.Life is too short.
Any other unearthed gems that you've heard lately??

I found an old Trotsk Icepick L.p when I moved house recently "al Kabong", not a great album, but it has one of the most amazing tracks on it called 106 degrees.Dark and brooding.
