Title: Influencing Friends
Post by: whothrewthecake on Feb 12, 2005, 08:45 PM
so all my friends know how much i love this band, and some love it with me, but most of the time i'm convincing people to listen or telling them how great they are. the other day my friend informs me that her boyfriend listened to one big holiday and now plays it about 20 times a day and is hungry for more. he came over and we listened to some of my favorites, and now i have a new convert. have any of you brought friends over to see the light that is mmj?

Good job! I have converted many as well. I have come to the conclusion that the best way to introduce someone to the Jacket is showing them the Conan video. Works like a charm.

Hadn't thought of the Conan vid, great idea.  ;D I have given "It Still Moves' as a gift to about 4 people. I don't know how addicted they are but I do know that they really dig the cd!

Their library makes wonderful birthday/Christmas/Chanukah/Valentines/insert special occasion here presents for all friends and relatives, thus serving multiple purposes:  spreading the Gospel, indoctrinating new fans/concertgoers, and boosting sales numbers! ;)

Sadly no one digs um...they just don't get um I guess...

I tried it all....they just don't get it or seem uncomfertable or something...they just don't....listen....

I also can't turn anyone on to my other favs the black crowes....

I feel like the only one sometimes....People either hate um or just don't really know them....

Don't worry, tony.  That's just cuz they're dumb.

(heh, just kidding.)

Man, everyone I know that I've played them for has gone "Woah.  Holy shit."  Seriously.  My Mom even.  My Uncle overheard me playing them, and came in and was like "Oh my GOD what is this?  This is incredible!"  He's a drummer, so he knows. ;)  And every time I go there for dinner, he always asks me about "that band.  you know.  wow."  Countless others.

Plus, you know, now that there will be a Mahgeetah Lounge in the club where I work, there will have to be non-stop MMJ playing (except when real people are playing), and I'm sure people will suddenly find themselves forcibly walking into the Lula Lounge, into the Mahgeetah room, plunking down on the couch, and pondering the amazing powers of human beings.

right on! my friend that came over watched that once and declared it the coolest thing he had ever seen. it's interesting to see the perspective from someone who has never seen them perform and doesn't know much about them. he was totally blown away by that peformance. they were absolutely the best live act i've ever seen. hopefully when they come back through town a new round of my friends can experience the joy.

Yeah, I showed my sister that video.  The next day, she went out and bought all of their LPs.  Way to go sis!

I convinced a few guys. But they are no real die hards like I consider myself to be.  They just weren't touched by that little spark.

Sometimes I think they gave this band a chance becayse I was harassing them constantly  ;D

I forgot this litle story:

I took a buddy with me to my very first show in Northampton, cuz I had an extra ticket from being on the Street Team to promo the shows, so to make a long story longer  ;D the dude came out of the show dumbfounded saying, "Man I can't wait to see them again!".  the cherry on that night, of course was hanging in their dressing room and getting all their autographs on a spare tour poster.
