.....today at work someone had a copy of Okonokos in their hand and wanted to know if it was worth it to buy it......I simply said "just get it now" but he wasnt too thrilled with that answer......so he asked me to describe it and the first thing that came to mind was, "If Gram Parsons was in The Band and they all has space suits on"......it worked and he bought it..........
i always struggle with that question...and i usually have the same answer...just listen to it and get back to me
sexy hillbilly rock

What about giving them the definition of the word:
"O-ko-no-kos (n)- a state of being in which the human soul trancends space and time through a sense auditory nirvana ; said state is reached when the pure power of rock and roll is so intense and spiritual that it can no longer be perceived by the eardrums and must be heard using only the heart. "
-Miss Evil Urges 1992
i usually say Neil Young + Crazy Horse crossed with Flaming Lips

use of the word, "dude" is helpful in this situation. while the word is simply an address, one's chosen inflection speaks emotional volumes!
there was a thread about this a while back and someone responded
the feeling you get when your listening "wish you were here" by pink floyed and when he waters sings "we're two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl" - that feeling through every second of every song.
Thats what i use when i tell people.
I heard someone say once (here maybe?) that their genre was "Epic Rock". I can't find any better way to put it.

I read "otherworldly" once somewhere. I think I would go with that.
i usually just say now..."kick ass rock and roll" and then i inform them "They're one of those bands that the more you put into them, they more they give back."
