You are given a trip on a time machine with limitations.
1. You can only go back once.
2. You have to see a concert.
3. You are not allowed to reveal any of this and possibly change the course of musical history.
Where do you choose?
(plus, you get a million dollars and free beer for the rest of your life. hell, it's all dreamy, so why not?)
5/8/77...Cornell University,Utica NY....The Grateful Dead....is the concert I would like to attend...and I would like to exchange the beers for doobage please. ;D
suuuure. Just consider "beer" as the code word for "relaxer of choice". :)
(I still can't pick my concert. I'm giving myself 24 hours to just make a choice.)
I'd go back in time the see Led Zeppelin out in California while they were touring on the Houses of the Holy. Specifically the shows recorded for the How the West Was Won album.
I also concur on the Zep concert. Maybe around '73, Houses of the Holy tour...with major league ganja, a quart of bourbon, and maybe a mushroom or two. (or ten)
Okay, I'm slowly narrowing it down.
1. Hank Williams at the Opry.
2. Live from Folsom Prison.
3. Elvis (the Comeback Special)
4. Wherever that "concert" was where Bob Dylan played out of the back of his truck. ;) Actually, anywhere on the '65 UK tour.
5. Woodstock (the original) (I know it's kind of cheesy, but it would've been really cool)
And then there's a whole slew of lesser known shows - like, I think I would've liked to have seen Jim James play a coffee house way back in the day. Or Emmylou's show on the day that she was "discovered" by Chris Hillman. Or fuck, Gram and Emmylou after they got their shit together.
Sorry. I will narrow it down.
Nov. 22, 1997
Apples in Stereo/Neutral Milk Hotel/Olivia Tremor Control
I've seen the Apples, and they're excellent. Sadly, Neutral Milk Hotel dissolved before I discovered them.

ooooh that's fun. Those guys are all part of that elephant six thing (or whatever it's called). neat-o. nice poster, too. :)
I've listened to it with my jaw on the floor a few times but to go back and actually get to experience it live...........9/8/2001 The Planatarium Show by My Morning Jacket. I believe this to be thier best show to date.

I have this. Or a very similar one. It's brilliant. Beautiful.
'Here's another bummer for you' Priceless...
The Who...Live at Leeds......i can feel my ears bleeding already
R.E.M. circa 1981, at that old rundown church in Athens, GA. (which also conveniently served as a home).
I would've said the Beatles, but they stopped touring before they recorded the really good stuff. Maybe the rooftop concert? That would just be sad though, cause you'd know it was the last.
The Sex Pistols in Atlanta fucking Georgia. What a blast; rednecks and Sid Vicious.
I would've loved to see U2 at their peak...maybe at Giants Stadium during the ZooTV Outside Broadcast tour in '93. The visuals would certainly be cool...on acid! :o

I saw that tour. It was good. I remember something about a giant car, and they did a couple of acoustic songs on this long stage that extended into the audience. That was nice.

Just good? That was nice? Hm...maybe I should pick another show.

Nonono. You can pick that one. I wasn't at the particular one you were referring to. It
was good. Truly. :)
1973 - Hammersmith Odeon (London) - David Bowie's final performance as Ziggy Stardust.
I have to change my answer; just got finished watching THe Who Live @ the Isle of Wight, 1970. HOLY CRAP! what an awesome show. If you haven't seen it, definitely check it out. Even if you aren't a big Who fan.

The Who totally rule!
Love that epic version of My Generation on Live at Leeds, it pisses off the neighbors though...
Band of Gypsys (Hendrix's spelling, not mine.)
Fillmore East
New Year's Eve 1969

Yeah, good choice I'd also say the Allman Bros, whenever they played Mountain Jam that appeared on Eat A Peach, and Live at the Fillmore East Deluxe Edition. Then off to Vienna to catch some Mozart!
Party on dudes. Have Fun at Bonnaroo!!!

:DHA!! Was that an intentional allusion to Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure? Brilliant!
I'd wanna see any of the few shows that Nick Drake did. And relaxer of choice to go with that please...
the last waltz.
a beatles show.
beethoven.
'70's, CBGB's, Patti Smith Group and Television.
'80's John Cale
Dylan, Cohen, Waits; anytime, anywhere...
And I'd give a finger just to go to one of the nights on wich the Dutch poet/actor Ramsey Nasr performed his monologue 'Geen lied'...
I would really like to have seen Pink Floyd on The Wall tour.. .. I think any of the "in their prime" shows by Guns N' Roses or The Doors would be pretty kick ass too...
I'd love to see Neil Young in one of those unannounced acoustic shows that became legendary in the sevenities. I was lucky enough to have been at the Planetarium show but I would not pass up the chance to relive that experience (best show I've ever seen, period). I would also like to have been in the audience at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 when Dylan plugged in with a full band and got booed by a bunch of uptight folkies (actually, any Dylan concert from 1965 back would be amazing).
Tundra, that's right bro ;)! Aint it a classic.
Wow, this is a tough one. I'll say any Pink Floyd show between 76 or 77 (whenever Wish You Were Here came out) and 81. But a very close 2nd would be any zeppelin show, but only because I've already seen Page/Plant several times. Hell, put Zeppelin 1st. John Bonham is my HERO.
You're scaring me Bermuda, we're in the same neck of the woods and we both would catch a Pink Floyd show. I also would have enjoyed Parliament/Funkadelic back in the 70s when Big Boss George Clinton walked out of the mothership that descended from the ceiling. Only problem, he was butt nekkid. That is some serious LSD when you don't bother with clothes.
Just for the kicks and giggles, I did manage to see Count Basie play at a local high school before he died back in the early 80s. Were some of yall born then?
Geez I'm old.....AND LOVIN IT!!!!!!!
OK, where's my beer?
QuoteI also would have enjoyed Parliament/Funkadelic back in the 70s when Big Boss George Clinton walked out of the mothership that descended from the ceiling.
I totally concur. Oh fucking hell that would have been awesome.
QuoteOnly problem, he was butt nekkid.
I see no problem here.
hey, he is color blind, so nekkid to him is totally different than for us. if you're so inclined... :)
Quotehey, he is color blind
Really? I never knew that. Maybe that explains the multi colored braids in his hair. I'm sure he has the trails permanently burned in.
(lucky bastard)
Ok, it's tough but I think I would see this one. I do believe this would have been on helluva a show!!

I've never done this before but I want you to meet Robbie Robertson here and, and Garth Hudson, Mickey Jones, Rick Danko, and, ... and Richard! (to someone in the band) You promised me you were gonna read. It doesn't mean a thing now, but they're all poets, you understand, if it comes out that way, it comes out that way, but, all poets you know. This song here is dedicated to The Taj Mahal. Now, we're gonna leave after this song and I wanna say goodbye to all of you people, you've been very wo.. very people, you know, I ..., you've been very nice people. I mean, here you are sitting in this great, huge place. And believe me, we've enjoyed every minute of being here! (before Like A Rolling Stone)
That's the same concert wear someone in the audience called him Judas and it was the last concert he played for 3 years, because him and the band went into seclusion to escape from the peace movement. Good choice! May I recommend "Eat the Document". It was a documentary filmed by DA Pennebaker (of Don't Look Back) and edited by Dylan himself. It follows Bob and the band through the 66 tour getting booed off stage and playing backstage with greats like Johnny Cash. I just got it off of Ebay and it was great!
