just thought it might be interesting to see what people do for a living. I own a Landscape/Hardscape Company in NJ and on the side I'm an Alcohol Disposal Engineer ;D ;D ;D!
I work at two different guitar shops doing small repairs. Mainly setting them up, getting em as playable as possible. It's good work, and good money. I work about three days a week, and it's not too bad of a living being a high school senoir.
I am a full time student in a teaching credential program. I am a student teacher in a first grade class, and I work at a library.
i'm a full time student at UT, and i student teach in a pre-k class right now. only in the first semester of my student teaching, still have a year and a half of school left. i work at stepping stone school, which is a daycare/child development center. i'll teach those kiddies to love mmj. ;)
I am in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and am working on making MMJ fans of my coworkers ;)
Pharmaceuticals eh?
I produce theatre during the day, and sling drinks in the night. Occasionally I get to sing, and even more occasionally people give me money for it. I've also been known to produce films, write theatre, and in a former life I was an actor.
By day I am a storm chaser, by night I teach syncronized swimming!
I work for the Boys and Girls Clubs, although not today because I have strep throat. At night I work my second job in the sausage delivery buisness.
P.S.
Whothrewthecake, unless you are talking about The University of Tennessee, you probably need to specify what University you are talking about because everyone knows who the real UT is. ;)

oh snap. haha UT-Austin
QuoteI work for the Boys and Girls Clubs, although not today because I have strep throat.
I have a bad feeling that I am coming down with that. I sure hope not after the bout that I had with the Flu a few weeks ago. I have a strange feeling in the back of my throat. Maybe it's just bad sinus drainage.
I am a manager at a very huge video store chain. On nights and weekends, I do as much freelance video-editing as possible. There's usually a time factor in that.
I work at Philips within the Lighting division. We sell luminaires for all kinds of applications: football stadions, buildings, ...
Nice work and well paid.
In my freetime, I play music with my band in return for beer and cigars. And of course I try to persuade my friends to be die-hard jacket fans, but I have not succeeded so far.

Are you serious about the sausage delivery? Is that where you got that picture of the sausage that looked like a finger?
Or are you a pimp for male hookers?
What's the real UT? I don't know who it is. And how come you call the University of Austin UT?
I'm in my last semester of a teaching degree (we sure have a few of those here!) from a university in the southern region of Alabama. I am currently interning in a 9th grade World History class, at a school less than a quarter mile from a military base (so that's a lot of fun for a peacenik). Once I finish, my wife, my daughter, and I will move to Birmingham where I hope to pick up a job. Wish me luck.
Oh yeah, on the weekends I work third shift at a gas station in the middle of the ghetto. (Oh shit, run! indeed)

haha oh man this has turned serious now. i got to The University of Texas in Austin, home of the Longhorns and the burnt orange and all that good stuff. there is also University of Tennessee....
gotta say, sweatboard, our love of mmj binds us. ;)
I put in commercial kitchens for restaurants, schools, stadiums, etc. Clients include Red Robin, Kripsy Kreme, Costco and Starbucks.

I coach 7/8 football. My kids have the attention span the length of a thimble and are forever goofing off. So if you can't beat them, join them is my philosophy.
Wow. A lot of you guys work with kids, hey?

Isn'it painfull when you have to explain your own jokes?
It happens all the time to me. :-X
And yet everyone appreciates my kind of humor, at least they say so...
I'm a Team Manager in a local authority secure unit. Basically, I manage a team that looks after kids that are locked up, for a variety of reasons.

Well,
I'm an insurance agent during the day, selling auto, home, and boat policies. At night I'm a rock star in my own mind, and also lead a double life playing Final Fantasy XI online.
One day, I will take over the world.

You're a stay-at-home-dad tundra? That's pretty cool.
Thanks. We didn't want to send Abe to daycare, and couldn't afford it anyway.
So since I was only working part-time, I started working evenings. My wife is a teacher, and I drop Abe off @ her school on my way to work. I get my schoolwork done during naptime.
It's a busy life.

What geographical location? I'm looking for a job.
At night I run a bar/club, study music tech part time and am trying to get a studio/p.a. hire/promotions business off the ground.
Chicago suburbs... a bit of a drive from Alabama...
Good luck with finding a job... I know how terribly stressful that can be...

A bit of a drive, yes. But not so much if you're candidate is desperately trying to escape his self made hellhole. If you guys start hiring, "Warner Brother" (warn a brutha')."
Truth be told, I'm fairly new in my district, but when we start hiring, or something opens up- I'll send you some contact info...
I'm near the Joliet area.

Never been to the Buddy Guy club (though I saw him open for DSave Matthews about 5 years ago at Soldiers Field)...
I'm in IT. I work on AS/400 midrange systems that are used by Cingular Wireless.

It's alll good. It was planned. I have been happy here, and they've been incredibly generous and supportive, but you're right, it's cutting into music stuff.
:)
Wow it sounds like you guys all have pretty interesting jobs/careers. Guess I will throw out a dull one. I work in a factory assembling rear view mirrors for cars. And I am a 3/4 time student pursuing a degree in Networking.
Like some of you guys I majored in history for a while and I enjoyed it. However there isn't much to do in my area with a history degree besides teaching. And most of my friends with teaching degrees don't teach, there just aren't any jobs around here.
The factory pays the bills and pays for my college so I am just trying to hack it through until I get my degree.

I'm really sorry EC, it's always a bogus thing to be out of work. But, it's great that you will be able to devote quality concentrated time to your music. Hey, do I hear a new career as a bee remover?

No no no. I quit! I made the decision. I'm still here until October. It's seriously all good.

Only 2 rings? What the hell?
heh.
i have 2 years of college behind me, and about a month ago i realized that i couldn't go back to the university.. it would kill me. lately i've been experiencing a downward spiral of slacking off due to lack of motivation. it really made me feel like crap about myself. I would work my ass off for the first half of the semester and get exhausted because "Sally Sue" across the room did a project half as good as mine and got the same A as me. The bar isn't set too high at my school to say the least. and i constantly looked at those who i know that are graduating college and still had no drive in life.. or no clue what the real world is even remotely about.. or just flat out didn't wanna leave their pampered environment (UT-Martin is one of the easiest universities ever.. there's the motivation issue).
So one day my long-time friend came home for a few days from San Diego. He is an Aviations Mechanic for the Navy and works on jet engines by day, and surfs and takes night classes (for free) at night. I sat and listened to all the things he is going through and started to consider serving in the armed forces as an option.
So like the good researcher I am, I did my homework on all the armed forces, and I came to the conclusion that the navy was the one. No one yelling at you, no really strict rules, alot of liberties, good benefits, and it resembles most like a regular average day job (plus a few other things). You do your job, then you can do whatever floats your boat for the rest of the day. So a few weeks later, I went down to Memphis and joined the Navy. Not sure when I'll leave yet, but I have joined and said the oath and all that good business.
The way I see it, I'll get paid to travel the world, and I get to finish my degree for free. (well $100 a month for the first year) and I'll get out at the ripe age of 24 with tons of options in front of me. Besides, I've always felt like I was the type of person you couldn't build a box big enough to keep me in.
PS - with 2 years of college under my belt, I get a instant promotion and advanced paygrade before I even leave for basic training, so I'll be 2 ranks up on everyone else there, and one rank away from being in the managerial ranks. kick ass
Good for you!!! It takes a lot of guts to get off a treadmill, even one that's getting you nowhere (they all get you nowhere but you know what I mean).
You've obviously put a lot of thought into your decision. You've made a plan and started putting it into practice. I admire you for that. Well done!
