Title: napster to go and like sites...
Post by: fitzcarraldo on Aug 10, 2005, 06:08 PM
Yo, I was just over a friends apartment and she showed me 'Napster To Go' which she recently got on her computer. It's pretty awesome (although so not complete)...got to hear Ibrahim Ferrer's (RIP) last record which was a lot of fun.  I checked to see if MMJ were on there and...Oh, Shit they had most of their catalog. Finally got to hear the Christmas record! Nice!
So for 15 dollars a month you can have all this music at your hands. It's amazing exposure and I was curious if anyone knows how the bands/labels get paid through people using these websites? How do they split the money up? I hope it's profitable.
I also liked the idea of seeing some bands (for example Spiritualized and B.R.M.C.)having some songs listed as 'buy only' for 99 cents instead of just downloading it as part of the 15 bucks a month deal.
I mean c'mon Golden is at least worth $2.99  :)
Dig?

I think that the bands and/or their management set their own prices per hit.  That's the way mp3.com used to do it anyway. I haven't seen Napster to go yet.

Interesting.  Hm.

My friend works for a (the) Canadian radio station, and she said that there was a study done lately that showed that people who download music are more likely to purchase records, because they're the music freaks.

I haven't been on napster since it changed, and iTunes is something I know nothing about.

It's all very interesting, though.

p.s.  I like your new picture!

yes, i think most downloaders are liely to buy the records.  people were abusing it, ya know, at colleges trying to make a buck.  and, that is why whores like Metallica were so upset.  something needed to be done, and i think they are getting a bit closer to finding a happy medium. it is like verything else, the good get punished for what the a-holes do.  i wish more bands would put more songs on their own websites for downloading so you can get a taste before buying.  i can't tell from 20 seconds of a song like Amazon does.  war, i mean peace.

You can still test drive records at record stores...
