Post by: TheLink on Aug 12, 2005, 01:25 PM
just wondering if most of you buy from the likes of Amazon, Borders, local indie store, download, Walmart ;D, or what?  personally, I like having them delivered to me so I can stay locked inside my house smokin weed and watchin the porn ;)

mostly waterloo records and antone's records here in austin. waterloo for cd's and sometimes records, antone's for groovy vinyl all the time.

sometimes i pick up something used on amazon, but i like going out and looking around and making a special outing of buying music.  :)

Do you mean DVDs of Kathleen Edwards' concerts?

Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh!! ;)

I like Soundscapes.  A lot.  2nd is She Said Boom.  If I'm desperate, I'll go to an HMV where my friend is the manager, so they'll generally have something good.  I've never bought a cd on the internet I don't think.

But Soundscapes usually has everything I need.

Oh yeah, there's a great record shop that I used to go to on the Danforth...  Damn, what was it called.  East... something.  That guy is awesome and he knows everything about music, and every suggestion he ever made to me was always wicked.

I've actually been thinking about trying to get a part-time job in a record store.  In my head it's a very romantic idea.

Me too, but the only local record store here in town pretty much sucks. They MIGHT have "It still moves" if I go to look for it.
I wish I could open my own record store, but you already knew that.  :(

See that's the great thing.  You would make it better.  Imagine how much you could change the world by only stocking good music.

One day, Corey.  And I can't wait for that day!!  :)  Every cool record kid in town will want to work for you.  And YOU can book Jim or whoever you want for solo shows!!  ;)

Yeah, see... that's the problem. I would want a place big enough to book acoustic shows as well.
Damn, why can't Grimey's be in my town?!?!?! I fucking LOVE that place.

My wife says that I couldn't own a record store because I would be like Jack Black's character in "High Fidelity" and piss people off telling them that they are buying shitty records. :)

between the time I went to college to the time that I got out, the only CDs that I bought were MMJ cds, out of principle. I had no money to buy anything else.  I just burnt CDs from my friends and made cassette tapes (remember those?).  Now with electronic media, all I have to pay for is the internet and blank CDs and I have all the music I could ever listen to (DIME, etree, atree, and torrentspy are favorites.)

wish I had some.  don't get me started! :P

anyways, i do wish we had some cool record stores here but all the old places went out of business.  the closest thing to hip record store here is Newbury comics, and they have like 15 stores.  anybody want to start a store with m?  we will f-ing rock!  i have some mad loot yo.  peace.

But she could work there, too, and make everybody feel better.

Maybe you could get the Muscle Shoals guys to just give you the old studios.  That way you could have a record store AND a place to have in-store shows.

Seriously.  Do you want me to talk to them for you?  ;)

Well, I do have a family member that worked in the studio for years, but he hasn't had ownership in it in years. They all sold their shares to Malaco years ago. Malaco just sold the "new" MSS studio to a local film production company about 6 months ago. (We went by it. It was the one down on the riverfront).

Anyway, there are a couple of places in town that would be GREAT for opening a record store if I had the loot. I'd do it in a heartbeat.
