Title: Fantasy Baseball??
Post by: .Walt on Mar 05, 2008, 08:17 PM
hey guys i set up a league for us. I thought we better get serious about this--before all the draft times fill up.

draft time can change. but it can get too late to change it...so the sooner the better.
stats can change too. it's a 7x7 league. (i like the stats the way they are)
its on yahoo, and the draft is on Sun Mar 23 3:00pm CDT

sign up!!

EDIT: my brother is in

The draft time is cool with me.

okay... so:

who's cool with going in for 10 bucks?

daily updates? head to head.  anything else I need to know?
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball??
Post by: .Walt on Mar 06, 2008, 06:09 AM
yup daily updates. stat tracker is sooo worth it for baseball. my brother would be down with the tickets thing. there is a cap on weekly pick ups. because...

last year in my money league, people dumped all their players (even good ones) in the playoffs, just to win pitching stats. i didn't like that i had to do that, but i did. the way i see, the team that gets you into the playoffs, should be the one that takes you to the championship.

i drafted a league today. just to let you know, the first pitcher drafted was johan in the first round. the next was peavy in the third.

good deal. I noticed that bwebb going in about the third round in most leagues.  Thanks for setting up the league.  I'm cool with whatever rules you lay down since you've done this a time or two, I'm just trying to get a feel for it before draft day.

I'm down with the 10 bucks.

Is the fact that the draft is on Easter sunday going to be a problem for anyone?

nice!!

i have a buddy that should be signing up tonight or tomorrow for sure. i'll be seeing my roommate tonight, and he's in. both are down for $10.  but with AMD's buddy we have 9. i can try and get one more, but if any of you fellas have a friend, feel free to have them sign up, but make sure they're down with $10.

I noticed it said if we have an uneven amounts of teams we can't draft.  Is it capped at 10 or 12?  We just need to make sure we don't end up with 9 or 11 on sunday.

I forgot to tell Rich (my friend) about the ten bucks, but if he's not down with it I'll cover him.

you're right we can't have 9 or 11. what we could do, is keep it at eight, and add some more roster spots. my one buddy is in for sure, but my roommate doesn't care either way. he's on call if we need him. eighty dollars can still buy a good pair of tickets!!

but i'd still like to see another jacket fan in it!

I could possibly do it.  I have never done baseball though.  How involved is it.  I like football because you can read up on it all week but really only have to make changes once a week.  Is baseball something you have to keep up with every day- 162 times a year?

Walter can correct me if I'm wrong but I think you can make pitching changes a week in advance but position players can only be picked a day in advance.  We'd love to have ya, though.

its not like football. you have to do your roster daily. the thing is, you can work a head. there's a icon that indicates who's the starting pitcher for the day. it usually goes 4 days in advance. you can change your position players as far ahead as you would like.  long story short, you'd have to check your roster twice a week.

we're doing a live draft. it would draft for you (if you can't make it). it's probably not going to draft the players you like, but it wouldn't draft horse shit players for you either. but yeah, sign up. then i'll have my roommate play. that's 10, and that's a full league!

I go for the Reds, but also the Diamondbacks because Brandon Webb is an old friend from high school.  Hence the name: the B-Webb machine.

Walt, make sure you're right about the number of folks.  I thought my buddy was number nine, making jon t number ten, and your roommate number 11, but I could be wrong.

Glad you decided to sign up, Jon.  This is gonna be fun.

It's safe to say you'll be drafting B-Webb early?  ;) I have a high school friend that hit a homerun in his first at bat in a "big league" spring training game this year. he's in the minors with the dodgers . he was also drafted by the carolina hurricanes. i don't think he'll be breaking into the majors this year, but i'm wishing him the best.

i checked the number of teams. Your buddy made 7, Jon makes 8, my roomate and friend makes 9 & 10. so its full!!!

do you have any questions about stats or anything? as far as suggestions, its not smart to draft a closer in the first 5 or so rounds. i don't want to give out too much, but i'll answer your questions if i can.

i changed some thing around. i got rid of some positions to make sure free agency is actually there. i added a two more categories. K's for batting, and L's for pitching. we needed loses, and i added K's just to even the categories between Pitchers and Hitters. if someone wants a different hitting stat, feel free to suggest.

one thing you should know, is there is a max on pick ups, $10 a team, and winner takes all. Coreys brother still hasn't cashed my check from football.

Some of us agreed to buy tickets for the new tour to the winner.  It was a very loose agreement.  I think everyone who agreed to that deal sent Chris 10 bucks.

hey, i've noticed something.

i think some of you guys are not using the DL spot when you could've, or maybe you don't know about it. everybody has 3 DL spots. (look at my roster). if a person is in your DL spot, you can add another player.

if you knew about the DL, sorry, but i'm just making sure people know what's going on. baseball isn't so cut and dry like other fantasy sports. if you have any other questions, please ask...it's still early...
Title: Re: Fantasy Baseball??

thanks for pointing that out.  I do have a few questions:

What happens when a player I moved to a DL spot comes off the DL?  Do I have to cut someone? does the computer cut someone for me? or can I leave him there until i want him?

How does this weekly update thing work again?  It seems like I can set my roster well in advance?  are those changes going to disappear after a week?  How do I ensure that my roster is set? how long in advance can i set it?

thanks again, walt.

when a person comes off the DL in real life, that doesn't mean you have to take your guy off the DL. BUT you can't pick anyone up if they're still on there.  (there will be a message, that will stop you) the computer doesn't cut anyone, but you'll eventually have to.

you can do your roster in advance. BUT make sure to keep a eye on starting pitchers.  if you change your roster and save it, everything should be alright. (i use classic style, i find it simpler)  you can set your roster as far ahead as you want it, but again, starting pitching is the really only concern. have you noticed the icon by probably starters? i usually do my roster as far as the icons are still there. that's i think either 4 to 5 days in advance. i rarely even have to change my position players.

the math is simple for me... tigers pitch well + tigers hit well = i win!!
tigers suck balls = 0-16

fantasy baseball may just drive me looney.  How did I go from a 11-2 lead on saturday to losing 6-8 the next day!??!!  well, other than the fact that I had three starting pitchers suck it up big time.  sometimes I love my team other times I think I'm delusional.  But it's a long season and it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out. couldn't believe you got beat 16-0!!!

EDIT:  I wish the rest of my team was doing as well as b-webb.  so far this season he's 4-0 with a 1.86 ERA and 0.79 WHIP (not that that counts in our league but still)!

Robins & Why the Big Suit...you both are still not using your DL slots. please use them, if you're unsure how it works, ask.  sorry for being a nagging bitch.

DAMMIT!  I forgot to start two of my pitchers and they both had great games.  I would've won two more categories this week if had started them!  Fuck!  I may not be cut out for this fantasy baseball thing.  Your bro's teams looks to be unstoppable.

here's an example, so it may not be your fault.

say on monday you update your roster up until thursday or friday. sometimes, a starter won't be projected that far in advance, although some pitchers are. on thursday, make sure to just glance at your roster. this happened to me in a couple league today. it sucks, but since your were playing me, i thank you!  ;)
