I liked Phish from the early '90s through to the beginning of the middle of the last decade. But I've lost interest in them nowadays and rarely if ever want to listen to their classic stuff. I never thought they were a "phase band", but I think they are one for me. I wish them well though, but I think most of the magic is gone.

I hear ya Jaimoe, they are no longer a priority for me. I still have 3 friends who I was deep into the travelling phish circuit with who still chide and berate me for not attending shows anymore. However, I have began to feel like those friends are idiots who cling onto this one band and are ignorant to any musical suggestion beyond Phish, i.e. MMJ.

I bet I would still enjoy the shows if I went (last one was 2 yrs ago and it was good) but I find I really need to be in the mood to listen to and enjoy the novelty of songs like Meatstick,  Gotta Jibboo or Run Like an Antelope anymore. I started losing my obsessive love with them after the awfulness of Coventry and our 38hr traffic wait and 12 mile walk into the gates. It's kinda sad bc that's what I used to live for (pre-MMJ).

Plus I don't care what any fan says, their studio output is pretty pitiful. I tried listening to that last one which, like all other releases, have some enjoyable songs I'd rather hear live, or utter crap. imho

Don't mean to sound like a hater(I'm not), but I'm really sick of my Phish friends telling me listening to anything beyond Phish is pointless. I definitely give them credit for being a better band than most people like to pigeonhole them as

I've never been a fan of any of their studio stuff but still really enjoy seeing them live.  Things were getting pretty bad musically in 04 before they called it off.  Coventry was an embarrassment.  I think I've seen about 25 shows in 09-10 and have really enjoyed myself at all of them.  But...I keep my expectations in check, I think that's essential.  Nothing will be like the summer of 1998 for me.  (but I don't expect them to be).

I won't be at this festival....instead I'll be frolicking in the trees at High Sierra listening to MMJ, Ween, and others that weekend.

I think they are a good, if not erratic, studio band. I like some of their albums, or used to, quite a bit. Their early stuff meanders too much (eg. A Picture of Nectar), but I think Billy Breathes and Farmhouse are excellent. I'm no fan of their last three efforts, Round Room, Undermind or Joy. Regardless, I still won't be slapping BB or Farmhouse on while I work out or host a party. I'm also tiring fast of all second/third generation jam bands such as Phish, moe. (I actually think they suck), Gov't Mule (which pains me since I'm still a staunch Allmans fan), Galactic (see moe.), Umphrey's McGee etc... I'll never tire of the ABB or Dead though.

I don't think of Galactic as a jam band, and at least they do something different on every album. Great live band too!

I have similar feelings but haven't had an opportunity to see them, only their solo incarnations at festival.  which were all really fun, gordo killed it w/the duo at bonnaroo in 05.  it was the best set of the festival in my opinion that year.   thankfully I finally get a chance to see them at DTE this year.  I was too young to understand what they were doing and then when I figured it out they lost their souls to heroin and broke up.  not until phish 3.0 do I get to see them.  Listening to the tapes from 94-98 and then listening to the 03ish stuff, it's night and day really.  unrehearsed, drugged out bullshit.  so many flubs.  I'm glad they seem to have a bit of new life in them.  a bit of clarity or something.

I'll give the haters the fact that some of their lyrics are flat out retarded but musically all four of them are INSANE at what they do.  Not to mention they can emulate any style perfectly on the fly.  they're a force to be reckoned with.  but I agree with you Jaime about all the derivative phish wanna be bands.   those bands usually only have one solid musician in them unlike phish or the dead who is solid all around.  that's the difference I see.. and the fact that the phish and grateful dead do not suck at music.

I hear the DTE show is on Mike's Birthday, truly have no idea what to expect.  Get to go with some really great friends too who actually know the band well, it'll be a good time without a doubt.  hope everybody has fun this tour.

and for the record Fishman as a founding father is fucking hilarious.

This is where a lot of the "hate" comes from: people comparing phish with the dead, or saying phish in the same sentence with the dead. phish isn't in the same league with the dead. neither is widespread panic, who I don't really like either, but I do like better than phish.

argue all day until the cows come home about your favorite hippy-dead-wannabe-jam- band, but please, for the love of god, leave the grateful dead out of that discussion.

here's what I'll say

The Grateful Dead w/Jerry >> Phish
Phish > The Dead w/o Jerry

I've seen the dead, rat dog, and phil lesh and friends a couple times and to me it felt nostalgic at best.  depending on the line up, the shows the members of the dead put out these days are not only predictable but kinda boring.  maybe that's just me and my love of distortion guitar and pages outrageous piano skill.

I totally forgot to include Widespread Panic into jambands I can't stand. Boring boring boring, even with Jimmy Herring.

As for Galactic, I've seen them 3 times live and each time was a borefest. I'm getting rid of the albums I own at a local music store, for free.

I'm not sure why, but I've never seen Phish live, in person, via video, even audio recordings.  I own one Phish album, Joy, which I haven't listened to much.  I just can't get excited about 'em.  Sounds like many of you would say I lack proper experience or exposure to their music, especially having not seen them on stage.  Fair enough.  I wouldn't say no if they showed up locally and it was convenient, but I haven't caught the Phish bug. :-\

I won't try and talk anyone into liking Phish, but starting with the most recent albums is definitely the wrong approach.  If I had heard any of their last five releases prior to anything earlier I would have run the other way.  I don't listen to any studio stuff after Farmhouse (and it's borderline for me).

It seems more logical to start a new thread about how and why people don't like this band.
Title: Re: Phish
Post by: wolof7 on Apr 03, 2011, 08:37 PM
I love Widespread....Some of their live, jammy releases can be tedious as with all jambands but a lot of it isn't bad, when they are on they are great. I actually find their studio output pretty stellar, definitely better than any "jamband."

Not don't even get me started with String Cheese incident, Umphrey's or Moe. P.U.

I think Billy Beathes, Story and Farmhouse are the only solid Phish studio albums but, like the others, it is definitely worth finding more of their touted live releases to understand what they are all about.

The Grateful Dead w/Jerry >> Phish
Phish > The Dead w/o Jerry

agreed !!!!!

it's no secret i'm a raging phish fan. i go to anywhere between 10 - 15 shows a year ( i did see MMJ 9 times last year though  ) and i'm already slated for 8 shows out of the 1st summer leg. living in the NE makes that alot easier .. if i didn't live here things would be oh so different. phish shows have always seemed like home to me especially in that i've made oh so many friends over the years .. i can go to any one show and probably run into dozens of people i've known for 10+ years. sometimes the music is awesome-sauce and that's what i'm there for and other times it's more social / hanging out with old friends.

as for superballz .. i'm not sure i'm going. in fact i'm feeling that i probably won't but i think that's more due to the fact i don't want to see my favorite bands with 30k+ others and most of my regular show folks aren't going. also, this new yorker doesn't have a car or camping gear (hey i live in nyc w/o a car, why do i need camping gear) and .. yeah.

maggie .. lemme know if you go though. if i do go, it'll probably be a last minute thing. i'm sorta waiting to hear what west coast dates might look like .. i wanna get back to the gorge!

The Gorge dates have been rumored to be 8/5-8/6 (unofficial but everyone I know is swearing by these dates and have already booked their house or RV rentals).  This has made it impossible to get any of our west coast MMJ loving friends to commit to Red Rocks.

I think Im hittin up Cleveland next weekend. Wish I could do Cincy too, but doubtful.

Im by no means the fan I was of them I was 6-8 years ago when I listened them more than any other band, but I always enjoy it when I throw on a show (I think all their albums are solid up thru Farmhouse, I mean, if you like the band I dont see how you can disagree since those are the songs youre hearing live, but its their improvisation/jamming that sets them apart so clearly the albums arent on that level).

Forget the Dead comparisons. As far as their greatness, IMO they can hang their hat on the fact that no other band of a similar genre has been able to touch them since their arrival almost 25 years ago.

Passing on three pretty close to home Jersey shows to hit up the two in Alpharetta.

I'm always looking for any excuse to get down to Florida to see my daughter, and do a road trip with her. ;) Phish is her favorite band, and Alpharetta is one of my most favorite venues. If the shows are anywhere close to the ones there last year, we'll be in for another great time.

I hear ya, walter.  I've seen 30+ shows and never heard Divided Sky, which is a relatively common song.  It's just comical to me at this point.  The funny thing is, my first show was supposed to be at the Louisville Palace in 1994.  I was a sophomore in high school and I got grounded (often) so I couldn't go.  Here's the setlist:

Monday, 10/10/1994

Palace Theatre, Louisville, KY

Set 1: Sample in a Jar > The Divided Sky, The Horse > Silent in the Morning > Sparkle > Stash, Guyute, The Old Home Place[1], Ginseng Sullivan[1], Nellie Kane[1], Chalk Dust Torture

Set 2: Golgi Apparatus, Maze, Esther > Tweezer, Fee[2] -> Rift > Down with Disease > Hold Your Head Up > Love You > Hold Your Head Up, Slave to the Traffic Light

Encore: Foreplay/Long Time[3], Tweezer Reprise

[1] Acoustic and without microphones. Steve Cooley on banjo.
[2] Trey sang verses through megaphone.
[3] Acoustic. Steve Cooley on banjo.

This still makes me sad.  I didn't end up getting to see them until 1996...

Does anyone know where I could get a 2009 Deer Creek stub?  It's the only stub that I don't have and it drives me crazy.  For some reason I bought e-tickets that year.  That was the year that they delayed the second set and lowered the speakers because it was storming so hard.  Everyone got drenched on the walk back to the lot.  There was no way to avoid it.  I couldn't have been any more wet if I had jumped in a pool with my clothes on (there was no way to keep my phone dry and it was even ruined).  I still have my wadded up water damaged e-ticket, but I would like to complete my collection.  I do look on eBay every once in a while...

I just bought the stub I was missing from the Deer Creek monsoon of 2009 on eBay (I'm not sure how the seller managed to keep it dry at all).  My collection will once again be whole!!!

if it does rain... those grandstand tickets that no one seems to want could become more valuable.

also, waiting in line in burlington yesterday morning wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, but god damn, there are some real assholes out there.

i'm excited. just hope my boss, who doesn't yet know i'm going, doesn't get too upset.

Just decided tonight that Im headin' North with a buddy who drove out from Colorado today for this show. Yep, first Vermont show since Coventry. Havent been able to see them yet this year, pretty stoked for Wednesday. Hoping they pull out the big guns.

Any idea about this venue its at? Is it a regular venue or is it going to be festival style? Grass or concrete grounds?

Aren't the fairgrounds the same place MMJ payed last summer?   If so it was pretty much just a grass field and a stage.  It's almost all GA too so I think so it will be more festival than regular venue.    For MMJ it was a mellow scene although I'm sure it will be a lot more hectic for Phish.  Not sure about grandstands though I don't remember any around close by so maybe they are portable or show is on another part of the fairgrounds.  I can't believe this is happening tomorrow already..it only got announced last week!

The venue mmj played at (the midway lawn) was in the same fairgrounds complex, but in a different area. This show will be at the coca cola grandstand, which is a big grandstand with field space in front of it. For some shows, they put chairs in the field, but I'm assuming they wont do that for this one (I hope not).

The weather is looking pretty good. Sunny, chance of showers, a little chilly perhaps... but certainly no coventry.

i hit all four shows @ MSG and sorta didn't think this run was all that great. there were definitely some hot moments but no show had a solid start to finish flow (at least for me).

sounds like they will be returning to bethel for memorial day. if your an east coaster / in the area and are a phish fan, you should definitely make these shows. i went last year and it was sheer perfection ... super fabulous venue (site of orig. woodstock), gorgeous farm country, easy drive up from NYC, and really sweet locals (every night we had little old ladies standing by the entrance waving and saying good night and thanks for coming). there are a ton of vacation rentals up there and it makes for a perfect long weekend get away be it with your crew of friends or for a family. we rented a bunch of cottages with the most badass owner ... on the last night she had a huge bon fire waiting for us by the pond when we got back from the show  i had alot of friends bring their kids too - babies, toddlers, etc... everyone had a fantastic time.

Alot of Phish fans have said the same thing but alot of people who arent Phans seemed to have loved it. Was streaming night 1 & 2 today. Looks like everything was great with every show accept if they would do 3-4 song encores, at least on 30/31 it would have made the difference. whatever they do what they do, wouldnt be upset about it, you could just be a spoiled Phan.

Where is the best place to stream their stuff? was on Phishstream (sp?) or somethin and had to click every song to hear it instead of it just playing through like on Panicstream, which Zman was at the NYE run for ya recording solid AUDs.  he's got 12/31 up here: http://www.panicstream.net/vault/category/phish/ (http://www.panicstream.net/vault/category/phish/) but his other recordings are on the Phish sites.. wheres the best streaming phish site?

I hear ya about the NYE run. I thought the atmosphere was fun and all, but as a rather recent and largely phish uneducated fan, I thought it had a bit of a 'greatest hits' show feel. Can't really explain it, but it didn't feel as special as I thought it would.

I was at Bethel for 2 nights last year and had a blast. That venue is amazing. Very beautiful and clean. The bathrooms were so fucking clean that I took a dump just for the hell of it. I'll most likely be back again if they do indeed play Bethel this year.

i heard a bethel for labor day rumor (instead of dick's in CO). that'd be swell but that'd really dick over the non-northeastern folks. pun intended.

oh and i'd love to see a little SE run. i'd prefer to do a little raleigh>charlotte>atl over SPAC and such.

Spotify has made it easy to listen to great Phish at work (it seems like most or all of the official, live releases are on there), so I've been getting into a little Phish this week. I listened to Chicago '94 a couple days ago, looking at 7/15/98 for later today.

pure awesomeness.  A long show, with three sets, two before new years and a third set which will start slightly before New Years and go for a good hour or so after, and a silly new years gag.  I'm not exactly sure what to expect tonight, for a band that has ALWAYS had a heavy mix of covers into every single show...they have gone the first three nights at MSG without playing a single cover, which is beyond odd.  Might just be the whole 30th anniversary thing...and they're just wanting to play their own tunes.  But expect some tight musicianship with some mind-blowing lights.  Have fun, Phish on NYE is always a treat.

Thanks for the insight.  I was never opposed to Phish, but just never got around to seeing them. I'm pretty excited for this one.  The tickets I thought I had through Craigslist fell through, so Im still in search for some, but Im pretty confident Ill be there.  Wish me luck and Happy New Years

Yea I made it and you were right, it was pure awesomeness. We headed to a bar right around MSG pretty early and scored tickets almost immediately and didnt pay too much over face, so I already chalked it up as a success. I honestly had never even heard 75% of the songs played, but it didnt matter.  Which maybe is the beauty of a band like Phish. The lights, the energy, the atmosphere it was all fun as shit.  Plus they drove an RV into the middle of the crowd and played the second set on top of it, which was just cool. Everyone around us was dancing the whole night, and whenever the lights exploded and you could catch a glimpse of the whole garden, it seemed like the whole place was doing the same. So all that (plus all the party supplies we had) made for a very enjoyable NYE.

That NYE set is pretty nice. A lot of newer songs, but plenty of classic staples and a few rare ones.

Im not into Phish as much as I was 10 years ago, but I went to the Hampton run in October and it was really good. Based on how they were in 03-04 before the hiatus, I never thought  they would be playing at a high level again (hell, or even get back together), and of course 3.0 is different than 1.0, but they just have to seemed to be getting better and better these last few years. Good for them and the phans  :bath:

Would like to join in on the meet up too, if you guys remember me? Going to all 3 shows this year. Soulshine, we talked about getting together for the Phish shows during the last MMJ Red Rocks tailgate. Doubt I'll be camping, body just can't take that extra abuse. Had enough abuse already, lol. Not going to the MMJ shows this year, just too cold to stay in the condo up in Frisco that time of year. Enjoy Red Rocks again all. Hope to see some of you at the Phish shows.

I'm going to Dayton tonight for Phish. My boyfriend is really the big Phish fan. I like about half of it. I can certainly appreciate their talent as musicians, just most of their songs don't really do it for me. I'm trying to come around though.

Anyway, tonight's show is being webcast for FREE! so check it out if you're a fan.

https://www.jambase.com/article/phish-announces-free-dayton-webcast

(Tuesday, July 18), Phish continues Summer Tour with a performance at the Nutter Center on the campus of Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. If you can't make it to Dayton for Phish, there's an option to watch from home or wherever you have an internet connection.

LivePhish.com will host a free webcast of Tuesday night's show live from Dayton. The webcast can be viewed via YouTube or in the embed below. Phish last played the venue on December 7, 1997 – a concert that ranks among the best in the band's history. The quartet also performed at the venue on November 30, 1995. Showtime is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

Have fun tonight!

For those who don't pay attention to phish, after tonight in Dayton and tomorrow's Pittsburgh show they'll embark on the "Bakers Dozen", a run of 13 shows at Madison Square Garden. The current debate among phish geeks is will they play the bakers dozen without repeating a song.

That would be amazing if they did. I have a friend who lives in TX who's going to all 13 shows and my cousin is Baltimore is going for 3. Very big challenge if they do no repeats and so cool for people there!

Last night was great, listened to a recording from NYCtaper.

https://soundcloud.com/nyctaper/sets/phish-live-at-msg-july-22-2017

it's pretty fantastic what they are doing with the Bakers Dozen Donut themes. It's fun to speculate on the songs and then when the discussion of which Bakers show was best, instead of talking about Night 3 or Night 9, it will be "I think Red Velvet was WAAAAY better than Bear Claw"

and it gives them a blueprint for no repeats and if they pull that off over 30+ hours (or so) of live music , it's gotta be one of the greatest achievements in live music history (or am i being hyperbolic?)

I am only a casual Phish fan ( have never seen them live!) but I think it's great that they are still bringing it at this point of their career! Baker's Dozen theme is the type of " fun" that they have always been known for- great that they still have such a playful spirit.

These 2nd sets have been stellar (including the Nutter Center show). The moment they launched into the end of DWD out of a nasty Split the other night was well worth the price of admission. Trickling in some nice Type II jams ahead of the 'Jam-filled' tuesday show is a sound indication that this one could be huge.

As soon as I hype up the 2nd sets... they pull off a 1st set for the ages! One thing I have always loved about this band is that they keep me on my fucking toes. Just when I think I have it all figured out, they drop a 1st set, 2nd slot Lawn Boy (sickest LB ever!) and smack me upside the head! Though... I should have known we were in for it when Sample went Type II. Not sure how they'll top last night, but surely the peak is somewhere down the road over the next 9 nights.

God. Please no. Your better than that. You know fair well Phish has no relevance to the most iconic American band of all time!

To put it blatantly. Phish aint got no soul!

If he wanted to try, I'd say Springsteen could. He's got the studio catalog, a vast collection of unreleased stuff, and a pretty nice sized cover history as well.

Biggest problem I see is if he kept his shows at around 3:30 it would really be a tough thing to do especially since he/they don't really have more than a handful of jam type tunes.

I was at the Saturday show.  I've never seen more people outside of a venue in need of tickets.  Cool crowd and vibe.  I'm not a die hard and with all the deep cuts, I only recognized one song plus the covers (which were a ton of fun).  I went with a friend who attended all 13.  He wasn't planning on doing all of them, but with the no repeats and their level of playing, he said that he couldn't miss one.  And living in Manhattan certainly helped his cause.

Couch tour'd this one. That Ghost to open the 2nd set was pretty dope. I also really enjoyed Gotta Jibboo and the Boston/Cream mashup.

That was a fun MMJ show!!

It's a perfect medium size venue that gets bands that play at much bigger venues. Plus you can see great even from the back of the lawn.

Wow, that really sucks big time.

I'm not really a big Phan but my daughter has gone to a couple of these as well as Fest 8 in Indio. She loved every one of the ones she went to as I'm sure all their fans did, and I know any music fan can put themselves in Phans shoes as far as how bummed they must be about this.

I know I'd be incredibly bummed and here's hoping those who were going can just put this setback behind them and get to as many more shows as they can this summer.

major downer. have several friends who traveled out from CA for this, some of which are already set up on site. Mother nature strikes again.

Festival 8 was magic. I have been to four other phish festivals all on east coast/new england areas, and while I get it that that is where they're from and huge chunk of their fan base is located, weather has played a role in many phish festivals (this being first to be completely cancelled), I think they need to consider bringing the festivals back to Indio/Coachella where festival 8 was, have in late fall again, weather was perfect.

fantastic 4 nights of phish in vegas. Will take me a full week to recover.

Halloween set was left with mixed feelings. Some didn't care for it, some thought it was pure genius. I was somewhere in the middle, but after having re-listened to it on my flight home yesterday, I think it was truly amazing. Nobody else could really have pulled that off like that. My wife kept saying "I think they're just making fun of us". It was fairly early into the set where most figured out it was all a hoax, this was not some obscure Swedish band's album, it was all original phish made to mimic 80s style swedish prog rock. And the stage setup and band outfits were great too.

Overall Night 3 was my favorite of the 4 nights. These guys are just on fire, full of energy and truly loving it right now. Very happy for them, and to be able to be witness to where they are at right now.

definitely seems like they are having as much fun as they've ever had. I've listed to iRokk a couple of times, I think a good chunk of the songs are going to fit in great for years to come. I really like Death Don't Hurt Very Long, We are Come To Outlive Our Brains and a few others.

Listening to Night 4 right now and this 2nd set is going to get a lot of play for me.

SET 2: Carini > 46 Days > Scents and Subtle Sounds > Crosseyed and Painless > Also Sprach Zarathustra > Possum > Split Open and Melt
ENCORE: Wading in the Velvet Sea, Character Zero

Man, that's not an easy road trip for my Mid Atlantic/ Northeast Phish fans friends.

I know they'll be at Roo too but it would've been great if it went MPP>Camden>SPAC> Maine instead of going from MPP up to Maine and then down to Jersey and back north again for SPAC.

I'm sure they'll still be going but I know I'll be hearing some complaints about the logistics.

was thinking the same thing, but my (early-mid 20s) days of driving the entire summer tour are long behind me, so this really doesn't matter to me. But I was looking at those dates and thinking, one day off between merriweather and bangor? and one day off again between bangor and camden? That flow makes zero sense. The worst is one day off between the CT and WI shows, that's a 15.5 hour drive!

I will probably hit up STL and Dicks. First and last shows of the tour.

Too funny Walter. Those multiple show summer touring days are well behind me too. Back then, I would've been bummed at how this route is set up but wouldn't have let it stop me. Now it was the 1st thing I noticed and thought thank god those days are done for me lol.

I've already had some friends chiming in who somehow still do a lot of shows, and I think even they might skip either SPAC or Maine.

That trip from CT>WI in one day is rough but MPP>Maine is over ten hours and then down to Camden is almost another nine! Not fan friendly at all with one day off for travel.

Ok, I know this is crazy talk to a lot of people and I fear being heckled and thrown to the wolves for admitting this. 🤣🤣🤣 But I have never listened to phish. I don't really have the time to go back and read 11 pages so I'll ask here. Where do I start? What album would people recommend or is this something you only capture live? I'd like to give them a shot since they have so many followers, but I don't know where to begin or if I'll even like them. I know people that LOVE Dave Mathews (I know, totally different music) but I can't really stand him.  Again, maybe I'm alone. Anyway, I'd like to expand my horizons so what do you all think?

From what I've seen, general consensus on the best studio album is that it is Rift or The Story of the Ghost and a solid place to start with shows is NYE 1995. I'd start with the shows first honestly

Hampton Comes Alive is right up there. If you're looking to jump into something more contemporary, the Bakers Dozen selections are good. Also, they just finished their NYE run and played some great music. Check out this show:

https://relisten.net/phish/2018/12/29 (the 46 Days->Cities is great and the 2nd set is muy muy bueno)

I'd echo what jjtouch said about starting with the shows. Do you subscribe to a streaming service? Lots of LivePhish shows are available on streaming services.

I listened to Phish & went to shows when I was in high school and then never really got into them until a few years ago, I blew off a lot of their music because of their campier songs and schtick, but I realized how integral that was to the band's ability to go to places that many other bands cannot. I fall into bands and go pretty deep and Phish is so perfect for that b/c they have different, distinct iterations of their sound, a long history and loads of available music.

agree with the above, but more than anything, just go see them live.

I think they have been on fire over the last year, agree with parker, listen to the recent NYE run at MSG, particularly 12/29 and 12/30. Or better yet, watch the webcast from the shows if you can access them.

I listened to Phish & went to shows when I was in high school and then never really got into them until a few years ago...

I got into Phish while I was in college.  They became the go to jam band after Jerry's death and that's when I went to shows.  As I got older, I drifted away from going to their shows, but never really drifted away from their music.

And I too would recommend getting into their Live Music catalog over their studio albums.  'A Live One' is one of my favorites for an abbreviated live set...

Cannot BELIEVE they are hitting Toronto. You bet your ass I'm gonna be there! Hope to pull some sweet floor tickets tomorrow. Only have seen them once before and I was a mile away and in an easily freaked state. Looking forward to my first real Phish show!

Wife and I just got from Saint Louis for the opening two shows of tour. I am not a hockey fan, but it was super cool being there as the Blues took the Stanley Cup.The second night of the run was the night the blues won it, and the energy inside was intense. Phish played Gloria (apparently the Blues victory tune) to open the second set, then straight into Loving Cup!

i was watching the stream and picked up on the random cheers so i checked the score and you could hear the crowd with each goal. Pretty neat and Trey is a hockey fan so that's real cool for the hometown crowd there that night.

i'm contemplating heading up to MPP Saturday but it's 4 hours and I don't have a ticket. Plenty of lawns out there but I guess I'm picky about being under the shed and those tickets are $$$

I caught the whole Sunday double set and it was awesome. That was my first time seeing Phish so I won't be a real good judge here but I thought it great and had a blast. The second set really grabbed my attention and that's when I was like okkkk, I get it, I can get down with this. Trey being super into it, the light show, the crowd, the weather, it was a perfect evening.

its still up on the YT:

As a self described n00b, I thought Sunday was pretty fun. Seemed like a typical festy set but had some great playing despite no lengthy yams. The Mike's Groove was a ton of fun and a Wilson->First Tube to end is the way to go!

I was at Roo, not a hugely knowledgeable Phish fan but I really loved both shows they did, Fluffhead through the end was pretty mind-blowing. Definitely gonna try to up my knowledge level for when I see them again so I know more of the songs than I did haha.

relisten dot net is a great place to get acquainted. If you have a streaming service you may have access to the LivePhish releases. I know I do on Google Play.

So you're saying there's a chance.  I was curious and looked yesterday......TM had a "dynamic" ticket that was priced well below stubhub and much better seat than their inventory.

if you use Cash or Trade, pavs are popping up periodically for both MPP shows. But you would have to have a gold membership, and set an alert and be somewhat quick as they go fairly fast.

yea i was sweating CoT pretty hard earlier this week and found out quick if I wasn't Gold, I wasn't gonna score. I'm gonna couch tour this weekend and spend the days by the water.

This Blossom Birds is quickly becoming legendary, the melodic yamming near the end is so, so good. They also played About to Run from Ghosts of the Forests and I had not heard that all until this show and good gravy is Trey killing it on that track.

anyone watch the first two weeks of Trey's "The Beacon Jams" project? Been really great to watch so far. For those unaware, Trey Anastasio is doing an 8-week Friday night residency at the Beacon Theater in NYC (no crowd obviously), every Friday at 8 pm EST on Twitch, and it's free. Mostly it's him with his Solo Band members (sans the horn section so far), and with a few guests mixed in, last Friday had a string section for several tunes. Highly recommend!

Also, I noticed something a bit interesting in the scrolling post-show credits after both nights so far (snapped this pic of the screen last friday). Very curious to know what this is all about. CC, know anything about this?

This was on the MMJ Fan Group on Facebook:

"In case anyone is curious, Trey has been thanking MMJ in the Beacon Jams credits because "The guy lighting Trey's Beacon Jams run also does lights for MMJ. Trey ended up using some parts of MMJs lighting rig in the Beacon, dogg. Hence the thank you.""

from watching the set openers, I certainly didn't notice many masked folks down in GA last night.

I wonder how that has to feel for the band who clearly wants folks to be as safe as possible but look down and see people not taking their suggestions/recommendations seriously.

I'm vaxxed and going to AC. I plan on wearing a mask when social distancing isn't possible but very happy its fully outside so I can hopefully find some space. I am going solo though expect to run into some friends. Anyone here going?

We have friends that are doing the 3 night run at Deer Creek (or whatever they call it now) just outside of Indy.  They are camping at Sleepybear, which is sold out for Phish.  It's going to be very interesting to see what they have to say when it's all over.

we will be at the nashville shows next week, unsure if I will mask up. Also have tix to phil and friends in nashville this saturday which is indoors and I'm rethinking that one.

We went to an indoor show not long ago (Atlanta Rhythm Section at Ludlow Garage).  People were hammered, the place was packed, and there was not a mask in sight.  Based upon what's going on now I would be rethinking that one too.

I'm hunting for Nashville tix still, hopeful to find a way in but definitely is concerning to hit 4 of the worst states for vaccination rate at the top of the tour.

Oak Mountain was freaking amazing!!!

Keep in mind that vax rates are gen pop. Most Phans much more liberal and undoubtedly have a fan base where the vax rate is much higher compared with overall rates in a given state.  I bet the crowd last night was 80-90 vaxed.

The worst for me was the huge mass of people cramming into the entrances. We messed up and went in last minute and it took a good half hour in a sea of sweaty people.
