Thanks, Sticky!

I haven't forgotten our project, but its been a crap week for recording.  I'm home with my lovely children, who come in every time I'm in the middle of a take, or the phone rings!

I want to lay a vocal track over some pre-existing Omnichord instrumental covers, but need to do something about the fact that my voice sux!  I tried Touch Me 2 with mixed results.  I'm thinking Bermuda Highway or Steam Engine are better bets, but now I've got the whole damn family home on the last day of my vacation, so who knows when it'll get done.

I did finally check out your N2K and Fiddle's CA.  Nice work, boys!

Thanks for reviving this thread, Mark.

I figure it's time to throw my hat in the ring.  I recorded some demo style cuts, mostly covers for my special lady friend and I figure I could share some of it here.  I probably put some other stuff up here with other people, but until then, enjoy:

Hey all,

This is my band "Relative Souls."  We are a Jam/Rock band out of Bridgeport CT and we just finished up our album.

Anyway, we are in the middle of the fesitival application process right now and one of the things they look for is, "how many fans do you have on facebook?"

So if you dig the music, and you don't mind helping a fella out, please click the link below and become a fan of Relative Souls via the social network.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Relati...s/129169152860 (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Relati...s/129169152860)

You can find our tunes on our artist profile page!

Any little bit helps....

Spread the love and the music!

Thanks, Sticky.  I actually did some vocals about 2 weeks ago, but my voice sounds shitty and I need some reverb effects or something (autotune?  ;D).  Funny thing is, I've had a hard time singing since I quit smoking.  I thought my voice, range, sustain, etc. would improve but I've been hoarse for about a month now.  I haven't given up, though.

I also have some interesting ideas about a Steam Engine rap.   ;)

If we can swing it, I'll definitely own the rail with you somewhere this summer.

Post by: Sticky Icky Green Stuff on Feb 07, 2011, 07:54 PM
I'm sure you rocked that shit.  do you still have cool edit?  if you don't have a mixer or preamp you can do crazy reverb post-production super easy.  if you still have that program go to the edit view and highlight the entire wav, after that all you do is go to "Effects"->"Delay Effects"->"Full Reverb" or whatever effect you want.  within that full reverb bank is a bunch of different presets that are fully customizable.  fun to mess with, you should check it out if you get bored.

Yac Rap on Steam Engine? can't wait.

I want to travel this summer, maybe a walkabout type quest across america seeing MMJ shows along the way.

whoops, had to fix the levels.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=50HF3HCH (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=50HF3HCH)

1.) Translucence
2.) Guts
3.) STR
4.) Laundry
5.) Bedpost Dreams
6.) Someone To Love
7.) Bird Brain
8.) Tidal Swell

it's half instrumental half with vocals.  most of the songs were built off of live loops or computer sampling so that is why it's raw and occasionally glitchy.  full band album should be done in a week or two, its more acoustic and normal than this stuff.

Well, tomorrow night is the debut... and likely final performance... of my band, Bustin' NECAPS.  Two songs- Takin' Care of Business by BTO and Let It Be.  A charity Battle of the Bands to benefit the high school SADD organization.  Omnichord, guitar, bass, conga, tamborine, and more cowbell!  Wish me luck.  No videos allowed!

It went well, according to friends and students in the crowd.  We followed two hardcore, scream-metal bands, so many appreciated our mellower set.  I couldn't hear our mix too well so may have strayed from the others.  I burned my right hand fingers at the end of TCoB, furiously strumming the strumplate more than ever.  F-cking hurts.  If video or audio surfaces and passes muster, I'll post.

Johnny, embrace that blood. I toured in an indie band out of Nashville for a little bit. It was a very different style of lead guitar than I'd played before, lots of tremolo picking. I got a little bit more aggressive than they were expecting with it. We wound up dubbing my white Strat "The Bloodsportcaster" as a result.

Since I haven't posted in here since I was style labeling myself "beardfolk," here's what I'm currently up to (I'm a windbag. Skip straight to 2:40 if you just want music):

If that piques your interest, follow me on facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/thepoetryofX (https://www.facebook.com/thepoetryofX) -- I've got some stuff in the works, including a collaborative project with a really gifted friend of mine. She's got a beautiful voice, in an Allison Krauss-kind-of way. We're recording in the old antebellum house I live in, putting this decrepit, haunted piano to good use. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of the project!

My band Northern Strangers has been playing together for a few years now around Los Angeles.  We frequently play Pink Floyd's The Wall synced with Alice In Wonderland live on stage; as well as Dark Side and Echoes synced with Wizard Of Oz.  We have a bunch of videos of that up on our youtube page at http://www.youtube.com/user/northernstrangers?feature=mhee (http://www.youtube.com/user/northernstrangers?feature=mhee)

Here's a video of Comfortably Numb from our recent show at The Roxy Theater:

Hey guys, I recently made some stuff that I'm really proud of and want to share. I studied music at college around 10 years ago but totally lost the buzz from making music shortly after due to lack of confidence and various other issues, I've built a ton of songs using loops over the years just to keep myself entertained but randomly opened up Garage Band late last year after listening to a bunch of demos by a band I love that made me realise I don't have to beat myself up and aim for total, polished perfection so I opened GB up and just had some good old, no pressure fun making some noise.

I think I did pretty good recording it all with my own hands - considering I have a disability meaning they don't work properly. Playing everything out on a MIDI keyboard was at times frustrating with said dysfunctional hands but I feel like it's been worth it and I have my fire back! The songs are not perfect, not totally/at all professional sounding but the fact that I made them all by myself instead of just throwing a bunch of loops in there leaves me with a huge smile on my face!

Here are the 4 that I'm most happy with, kind of dark angry spacey electronic/alt rock sounding stuff. More progressive in nature as I find that easier to do in GB, plus I think I just prefer it to standard song structures. I can't open Garage Band with an idea for a song in my head, I just have to open it up and see what happens, and this is what happened:

Hello, me again! Sorry to double post but I really wanna share this track I've spent the last few days working on and am extremely proud of!

It's called 'Tear Me Down I Want to Start Again' and is a 7 minute spacey-rock song that picks up speed as it goes along into a big, euphoric, happy ending.

I always say my songs aren't personal as they're all just little instrumental garage band jams but there's something about this song, specifically the ending which really moves me and I think captures the determination and resilience I've been feeling lately. I have a disability which effects my hands greatly so making music is actually incredibly challenging at times and it can take me a really long time to really nail a melody but I really pushed myself with this song and feel it's my best work yet! The plan was to create a little 2-3 minute ambient jam but it very quickly spiralled out of control into this hot mess!

Would really appreciate some feedback. Thank you in advance!

My band released our first single in August 2021. We're all mid 20's and based out of Nashville, working on an EP coming out this summer. I didn't write it, but I did play guitar, bass, and keys on it! Been to at least 1 Jacket show with every member of the band, me and the drummer flew out to Broomfield '17 together, and he definitely takes some inspiration from Patrick.
