Hey all, I tried a George Harrison search and could only come up with a couple regarding YY's tribute album and a sweet birthday thread... let me know if there's another one out there that I've missed!
I've just been channeling so much George the past few months, I'd love to see others' thoughts and etc about the Dark Horse 8)
And my friend just sent me this tidbit, and it just urged me to share on here!
"George Harrison was reportedly the inspiration for "The Rain Song" when he made a comment to Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, about the fact that the group never wrote any ballads. In tribute to Harrison, the opening two chords are recognizably borrowed from the first line of his ballad "Something" with The Beatles."
Just love this man.... and after coming to such an overwhelming interest and understanding of his life / the path he walked, it's just so much more meaningful that Jim dedicated a whole tribute album to him.
Let It Roll......

George Harrison-Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-KAvPbO8JY#)
This one is pretty cool. Story goes it's George demoing to Ringo Starr how to sing Ringo's future hit (even though some say George wrote it)
George Harrison - It Don't Come Easy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4p5yzdCa2GE#)
George Harrison - Beware Of Darkness - Acoustic Version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBMCxD5Q2O8#) ;)
TBC! This song has been on repeat, it's almost become a mantra in its own right, and it's not even on Chant and Be Happy album!! :P I love the Beware of ABKCO album... so many solid versions of songs.
"Beware of sadness... it can hit you.. it will hurtttt you.....
It can go and make you sore
And that is NOT-
What you are, here for
That just seems to automatically pop into my brain anytime a sad or upsetting thought comes to mind.
I've kind of made a hand-picked George album that's been firmly implanted in my cd players in my car and at home... featuring both versions of The Art of Dying and Beware of Darkness, also EVERYBODY NOBODY, Ballad of SFC, and the SNL with Paul Simon, "Homeward Bound".... amongst many others.
George Harrison - Everybody, Nobody - Acoustic Version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKcbgWbataU#)
Paul Simon and George Harrison - Homeward Bound (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0_htHcmcbE#)
Tracy I love the video there for "It Don't Come Easy!!!" Those are some classic video clips I've never seen!! 1:25-1:35 makes you feel like you're actually walking through the corridor with him 8) Lots of little video gems there, thanks for sharing!!! ;D So glad for the awesome feedback!!!!
Wow, that is one awesome video. Paul Simon's songs are brilliant and to see him doing this with George is really special. George is really missed.

I love their faces and the gentle way they harmonize :) And I love at the end when George throws down a little bluesy 2-second capper on the song, and Paul makes a great face like " ???" heheh there was only one other vid I could find from the night.... it's pretty hazy quality though, but to me it makes it feel like a dream :)

Thanks for the link, weeniebeen!! I've got some catchin' up to do with the Wilburys!! Good stuff!
Nice videos too, Truth, thanks for sharing!! Yeah, All Things Must Pass proves quite helpful with life's losses... and I find it very life-enriching, reminding us to live each moment as if they are our last. I find myself picking out microscopic parts of the songs that seem physically small or short in length, but that become astronomically huge, spiritually. Just the phrase "Let it roll"..... just a good reminder anytime I find myself focusing too much on any one thing, as though George were there next to me reminding me to just let things roll off.... hell, through the hall and out the door!
And (like I'd mentioned earlier) I love the part in Beware of Darkness, "It can go and make you sore and that is not... what you are here for"
Really short and sweet pick-me-ups that span a great distance in my soul day-to-day :)

VHS!! That's the way to go!!! Shazam.... hahah that's awesome!
Dark Horse tattooo....... whoooaa.... I'm feelin it!! The Ohm symbol in the center, the multi-headed majestic beast... I'm all riled up now!! Just looked it up online, and apparently the horse symbol was something George had seen on a tin in India, named
Uchchaihshravas (kind of sounds like a sneeze...) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uchchaisravas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uchchaisravas)) and inspired him to use it as the Dark Horse Records logo.
Good call! If I ever become decisive in any one way about a tattoo, I'll consider that one! 8)
George Harrison - Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2IV9gxHhwM#)
The last album he did "Brainwashed" has a great opener "Any Road" awesome song. I remember a few years back, probably late 1990's George and Ravi were one a VH1 show doing an interview. They got George to do a few acoustic songs, I believe he did "Any Road" (which was unreleased at the time) and maybe "All things must pass" but I'm not sure one the last one. It was pretty cool. He wasn't planing on playing just talking but he was so nice that he gave it a go.
I haven't looked for those videos I will now and if I find them I'll post the youtube videos.

This was my first time actually sitting down and watching the whole thing through. And LAWD, it has since become one of my top 3 favorite concert movies. Thanks so much for posting about the stream, I don't know how I held off on listening/watching for so long :)
Also, Shankar and the gang's intro was such a cool way to start a rock 'n roll show. Their interplay is genius...surely not human. George too has such a modest stage presence, yet his eyes are burning with some kind of passion the whole way through. The whole event felt very wholesome... I'll be watching this again soon!!!

For how much I love the Beatles and George, its surprising that I'd never watched The Concert For Bangladesh before. First time this weekend and I was really surprised how tight the band was. A lot of times these all-star concerts are underrehearsed and sloppily performed. I suppose its a testament to how skilled these musicians were that this concert did not sound that way, especially given how out of it Clapton reportedly was (according to his own bio as well as Pattie Boyd's bio). Gotta give props to Klaus Voorman on bass and Jim Keltner and Ringo on drums for keeping it tight. Wonderful playing by the horn section and the backing vocals, too. Billy Preston really fires up the band when he gets out front to do a little get-down boogie dance and then returns to the organ and totally nails That's The Way God Planned It, what a talent he was. I'm not a huge fan of Leon Russell's vocals, but his turn was solid as well and I can see why so many hold him in such high regard.

ha! oops, happy day then, happy day! i got confused between the two posts up above, thanks for bringing the light back Mr. Yac
Hehe ;D Great pic JY!! Easy, you must've tapped into the "George Stream" that day, jogging to All Things Must Pass on the beautiful day!! The George stream has been ridiculous for me lately.... crazy coincidences and such... love it! I've been dabbling through his autobiography that a friend from work lent me, and I just found an old Rolling Stone from 2002 dedicated to him with his face on the cover (and no other words, etc, just purely George's face) Haven't gotten to read it again yet. And a girlfriend from Pitt came and visited me down here and found me a copy of George's greatest hits on vinyl-- an awesome listen!! Need more George vinyl! Love for George!!! :-*
Just want to swing by and praise my job-- they play some of the best tunes at that place sometimes!!! Today's special gem was
Stuck inside a cloud - George Harrison (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkFJxQOv4t8#)
When the good tunes are playin', I go hang out in the Incense aisle, where the speakers are all at, and pretend to straighten the shelves..... and today nobody even interrupted me through the WHOLE SONG!! :D :D F'n awesome job.
This morning I woke up to Clapton's take on Beware Of Darkness from the Concert For George. Wonderful! Also fantastic from that show is Paul's version of All Things Must Pass, I love to hear Paul pay tribute to the greatness of George's songwriting and his spirit in that way, it tears me up to hear it. I'm just feeling glad that there is enough love for George and his music on this board to keep this thread going, right on to you all!
Yeah Shug!! Tons of George love, it IS a beautiful thing! :-D And it is one of the most touching things to hear everyone's tribute on the Concert for George, definitely tearjerking.....

11 years, we'll always love you George
Jim channeled him so perfectly well, not much more can be said. Found the most beautiful picture ever, and hope to have it printed, someday, as a poster

Jeff! My soul brother, I know we are very much on the same plane. I am blessed to have found this miraculous group of people-- it was and still is just what I've needed in my life, on so many levels. To uplift my heart, brighten my spirit.... crack me up... and melt my face!!! I only wish I could reach out to everyone and see everyone so much more (more than once a year, and much, much more than letting a year go by without!) Thanks so much for all the love & light--- may it circle around right back to you!!! Miss you & Beth and truly truly hope to see you very soon!! for you jen
This is a great read if you ever wanna know about the Patti Boyd-George Harrison-Eric Clapton love triangle--lots of insight into their marriages, the music, and meditation, too..

There we go! Even the part about it in the George documentary (Material World) I found contradicting, a bit..... would love the full-on, clear version of the tale-- thanks for sharing!!

I've read that. It was interesting definitely, but it bothered me how Boyd wouldn't take any responsibility for the part she played in the demise of her marriage to George. She only wanted to blame him. Either she doesn't have enough self-awareness to realize that she had something to do with it as well, or she is someone who can't admit her faults.

Oy..... would still like to check it out, seems interesting. But that's lame of her to be the finger-pointer.
Not to focus too much on the negative, but yeah, the story of Patti, George and Clapton is definitely the "living in the material world" side of George, which is a part of his complexity. They both cheated on one another and they both were using lots of judgement-impairing substances on a regular basis. I think the blame can be evenly spread amongst both of them and their social circle and what was socially acceptable behavior for men and women in those times, even for so called "enlightened" rock stars. Its an entertaining book, but Patti appears to be a little bit passive in terms of letting life happen to her rather than using her personal power to make choices, IMO, but that was how society was back then, so its hard to blame her too much.
Another interesting book with more perspective on the story is this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Miss-ODell-Nights-Beatles-Clapton/dp/1416590935/ref=sr_1_12?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1354555126&sr=1-12&keywords=life+with+the+beatles (http://www.amazon.com/Miss-ODell-Nights-Beatles-Clapton/dp/1416590935/ref=sr_1_12?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1354555126&sr=1-12&keywords=life+with+the+beatles) She lived with George and Patti for a few years.
You could also read Clapton's autobiography, but it might really tarnish your respect for him, as he bravely lays out so many of his character flaws and his really truly poor treatment of Patti.
Listening to All Things Must Pass because a young man died today. He had children. Needless to say, it was unexpected. It is tragic. But it seems to me a reminder that nothing living in the material world is immune. The rich man and the poor man. The sinner and the saint. The famous and the forgotten. All things must pass away. So what does that do to now? Doesn't that make now all there is? And if now is all there is...what do we do with now? Do we hate? Do we quarrel? Do we hoard? Or do we love? Do we give? Do we share? Hence, the power of now. It is always a moment away from change. For better or worse, we are promised nothing more and nothing less than right now. Might as well fill it up with love...it's the only dream in life that lasts.
Thanks MamaKel, beautiful message (http://www.refugees.bratfree.com/smileys/th_emoticon_Heart.gif)
You can take a horse to water--
But you can't make him drink
Oh no, oh no, oh no
You can have it all layed/staked out in front of you
But it still don't make you think!

I downloaded this and we listened to random bits via shuffle while road tripping over the weekend. Like so many others I love this album, and the additional tracks are definitely a good listen and very interesting. I was a kid when this album came out and I remember hearing My Sweet Lord constantly on the radio, which of course I would sing to, and it drove my parents (especially my mother) crazy because of the Hare Krishna mantra. I can't wait to listen to it properly in full. It's so good to hear these musicians having so much fun!
