Mirage Rock
....just can't get behind it...
...it's not a good album right?
I thought they couldn't drop further from Infinite Arms but they have...
Their first 2 albums were great tho
anyone with me on this?
After Infinite Arms, which while not terrible or offensive, was pretty mediocre, this album isn't even on my radar. A lot of great music out this week (Grizzly Bear, Menomena) and two of three live Wiltern sets released so far, no shortage of music to enjoy. Although honestly, I doubt I would have checked it out even if it were a dry week for new music.
Yes, I also enjoyed the first two albums...

I am with you 100%. Couldn't have said it better myself.
I don't get it. I Love the first two. Thought infinite arms a disappointment. Was keeping fingers crossed for a bounce back and it did not happen.
I am so thankful that the new Grizzly Bear is awesome.
I thought it sounded pretty good after one listen. The Avett Brothers album honestly disappointments me more.
I'm awaiting the new album to arrive but hope I disagree with most of you. I definitely liked their first two more than the previous release but, like with MMJ, can't expect the same album every two years. But I'll buy any album from a band whose frontman constantly refers to MMJ as "the best band in the world!".

I'm gonna start making music, at least one person will buy my albums.

What took you so long? You know what I mean. Watch Bridwell during Isn't It A Pity on Red Rocks 2012 night 2 in jaw-dropping awe of Jim.
And, yeah, Eric, you make an album and I'll buy it.
Yeah, I'm just being an ass. I don't like BoH's music, but I gained a liking for them as people over seeing them so many times since MSG last year.
Not a fan of this one from B of H. Their weakest release imo.
For the record, when B of H opened for Pearl Jam in 2010, Ben came out for a song during PJ's encore (All Along the Watchtower in Newark) and announced that PJ was the best band. Eddie came out during their opening set as well. Ben was in awe then.
B of H's first two albums are fantastic.
I like the new one a lot.
I haven't listened to the new one, but everything all the time is a great album
Well, the vinyl arrived at work (no turntable) but the download code won't work, so...
disappointing album...
hoping Avetts is good! haven't heard yet..
I hate to say, but I haven't been blown away by the new album either. Granted, I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole thing all the way through yet, and there are several songs I think will grow on me, but there are also a lot of songs that left me feeling meh...
I'm not giving up on this record, as I've experienced with many albums that the more you listen to it, the more it grows on you...
I like it overall, only a few clunkers for me. I enjoy the second half more than the first half.
I'm a BOH fan, but I will admit that it's their weakest record. I do like it though other than a couple tracks. Disc 2 of the bonus edition is actually really good, a little rawer-sounding to me. They probably could have swapped out a couple of the bonus tracks and the album tracks and had a stronger album overall...
It's awful IMO. They have lost both their "indie" and "alt" status. Gone are Bridwells distinctive vocals and soul.
This is a collection of songs that could have been written by any band and played on any mainstream radio station, a commercial sellout.
It sounds like there are plenty of people in agreement so maybe they'll get the message.
And I was so looking forward to it.

Sounds like you think they pulled a Kings of Leon. I would not go that far but really hope they see the feedback from fans, take some time off, and then return to form. Unfortunately I think this album will be a big commercial success and the band will only continue down this path. I truly love the first two albums and will hold out hope.
i'm going to see them next Thursday. Usually I listen to a bands new album almost obsessively to get ready for a show but I just can't get into the Mirage Rock at all. A couple of songs are pretty good but nothing really stands out and overall the album is pretty darn disappointing. Also, after watching a stream of their album release show, there was a noticeable difference in the quality of their old songs and their new songs played live. It was actually a really drastic difference. The new songs lacked energy and everyone seemed horribly out of sync in my opinion.
Well, Side B is getting multiple plays on the turntable. Side A I'm less inclined to relive any time soon. I think a lot of the negativitiy on this thread actually made the new album a pleasant surprise... not SO horrible, and while much of the second side is derivative of the Stones (Electric Music) and CSN (Dumpster World, Long Vows), I dig it.
their first album was great since then they have gone really down hill..

I didn't think the music was horrible on it's own. It's pleasant and easy to listen to.
I do think it's horrible in the context of their other work, especially Everything and Cease.

Ha ha ha! If she quit her job we all know where she'd be! BOH tour would not be it, but she would not be opposed to listening to them. I think??!!
I know a lot of people have lost interest (me included). But by the looks of their most recent twitter post, they are just about done with a new record.

Great news! Mirage Rock sounded like their attempt at a 70s album to my ears when it first came out. The songs have grown on me since seeing them live a few times. They were great at OBH, both headlining and acoustic. And their warmup club show in SoCal a couple nights before OBH was really good.
I still lack the ability to get behind Band of Horses!
new song is pretty damn good, "Casual;l Party"

Already sounds better than anything from the last album
I kind of like the new song, but they covered The New Year's song "The End's Not Near" years ago & this song really seems like their version of another The New Year's song call "Sinking Ship."

At least content wise...
I like the first 2 albums so much that I'll always give them the benefit of the doubt, even though I really wasn't into the last one either. Hoping they'll tour soon and I'll get to see them again. looking forward to this new one!
I love that Acoustic at The Ryman too. That's been my go-to album from them lately.

Members Of Band Of Horses Announce Departure From Band
Following a pair of social media posts, two members of Band of Horses have announced their departure from the band. Bassist Bill Reynolds and guitarist Tyler Ramsey each shared statements revealing their decisions to quit the band.
Ramsey and Reynolds joined Band Of Horses in 2007 following the release of the group's LP Cease To Begin. The pair appeared on subsequent albums including 2010's Infinite Arms, 2012's Mirage Rock and last year's Why Are You OK.
"I am moving on to pursue other things," Reynolds posted on Facebook. "I will be producing records, doing photography, and who knows, maybe I'll go on the road again someday."
In a post on Instagram, Ramsey declared an end to his run in BoH, writing in part, "I'm sure I will miss the beautifully dysfunctional family we became." He also revealed plans for a solo album and tour later this year.
The current Band Of Horses lineup consists of founding member Ben Bridwell along with drummer Creighton Barrett and keyboardist Ryan Monroe.

I Know I saw that too. some later this month!
Hopefully they have some people in the wings who are fast learners!!
Well, this will make their show on 5/25 interesting to say the least. I hope they don't postpone.
