I don't think I'll be going. I have tix for the JB show and even though that's a "warmup" gig, should be enough to satiate me. But who knows, if the JB show blows me away I'll probably go Union Transfer too. It's a nice venue, I saw M. Ward there last year and will probably see Father John Misty there in June. Enjoy! :beer:

How close to Union Transfer is this place?
I'm not exactly sure but I think it's less than a half mile. I've never been there.
2 blocks west & 1 block south. easily the best bar around. the joint across the street (Llama Tooth) is more of a restaurant, no real bar. trust me, this is the best place to do this kinda thing.

Llama Tooth is basically a restaurant. They have a patio but only open it if the weather is good. Also no draft beer. Prohibition Taproom...dig it!

JerseyDan is correct. The Llama Tooth does not have beers on tap. However, the bottled beer selection is excellent & the food is quite good. It also has a special place in my heart as I didn't recognize Deer Tick before their show w/ J. Roddy & attempted to sell them an extra ticket we had to their own show :grin: They were good natured about it & actually f'd with me a little bit (price haggling). A bit embarrising but still pretty funny.

as there seems to be a split between Prohibition Taproom & Llama Tooth I've gone ahead and booked specials at BOTH places so y'all can enjoy an delicious Sixpoint brew regardless where you land before the gig (plus our Bengali Tiger IPA is on tap at the show!)
Prohibition Taproom: 5 Sixpoint drafts (taplist TBA), custom playlist by yours truly. Brews will stay on after the show as well so many opportunities for fun
Llama Tooth: $5 Sixpoint cans (usually $7) from 4-9p, Righteous Ale & The Crisp Lager
**John, the owner, is somewhat concerned about the weather on Saturday. There will be heatlamps on the patio but if its too windy this section may be closed. That said, the indoor area is all tables so be advised it could get packed fast**

Jane. We had a nice little chat after a Port Chester show, probably the last, where I professed my love for the greatest Canadian prog power trio that have two members that are sons of holocaust survivors. I was pretty tossed but I vowed to begin exploring the Genesis catalog as well.
I'm gonna try to be in town by 5 or earlier so I could hit up the preshow. is it prohibition?

Pretty much, yeah.. We emptied our collective tanks inside UnionTransfer :wink: no pics or vids from me. I gotta live in the moment. :grin:
It was a late Saturday night in Philly with Jim hitting the stage around 10:10-10:15, and ending sound 12:20!
Show was a hot one though with Jim definitely in a celebratory mood. He talked about people all over town calling out from cars wishing him a happy b-day, complete with imitating their different voices, and humor. :cool: asked us to let it all out with him in a deep gut howl, held some wild funny face poses for a bit,and someone even handed him a cake at the very start. A little happy birthday singing,and shout outs, but a bigger birthday chant. A Ha-ppy birth-day, clap, clap, clapclapclap type of thing. Pretty cool, and fun,IMO.
Totally dug the encore more this time around than last, and so glad he changed it. I thought the band was super tight,and really hitting it's stride. Curious to see if they add or change anything up as they work their way through the rest of the tour. A bit envious of those going to an upcoming show,and wish I had another, but definitely grateful for seeing the few I have. Such a great show!
So cool to get to hang with everyone again, and meet some peeps for the first time too. :thumbsup: can't wait to do it again over the summer. :beer:

It was real cool to see a lot of old faces and meet some new. I was running on fumes and jet lagged after over 24 hours of travel with little sleep but making the trip to Philly was definitely worth it. I really enjoyed Jim's first set when he wasn't trying to finger people. I don't get it. Highlights were Know til Now and Dear One and easily the best part for me was the conclusion of All is Forgiven with the double time jungleish beat with the sax that reminded me of Prodigy meets Pharoah Sanders. That was awesome! The extended outro to God's Love got a little tedious for me and wish that it was tightened up or had more changes in it.
Bermuda Highway sounded great even with all the dudes screaming the song word for word behind me. Hey at least they were all on key :beer: I didn't hit the MOF tour but I enjoyed that arrangement of Master's Voice. I escaped the pit after The Right Place knowing my kryptonite, Losin Yo' Head, was on its way. That and Right Place I find to be pretty awful songs. I enjoyed Changing World from afar and it was awesome! Man do they rock it out.
Some highs, some lows but all in all a damn fine time and good show.

that is awesome.
It's obvious Jim really enjoys Philly based off how often he plays there, but his love for the city had to have grown even stronger based off the love he was shown last night. Cake, noisemakers, birthday hats, signs, it was a great night and Jim really fed off the crowd.
The encore was the highlight for me, especially Changing World...and Losin Yo Head.
Dmooney, I like your pics and vids! Great job even if the cake people took your rail spot. Those cake bastards.

I always think my pics are in focus and then when I put my glasses on, it's obvious that I was very mistaken. After losing them for a night at Port Chester, I hate to bring them with me to shows, but if I'm going to fancy myself a photographer or a texter, perhaps I should. Although I do think Crispy enjoys my typos a bit.
As far as sound, I noticed problems in Boston, but we were at stage's edge. Video taken from the balcony had very good sound quality. I don't believe Ryan's mix is targeting the ears on the rail... a price we pay, I suppose, to be within finger's reach.
It's all matter of the venue and their PA layout. Even in a nice club the front fills are usually less than ideal. Unfortunate as those in the front are the most pumped generally. On MMJ dates Ryan has considerably more control. As you said, in clubs it's usually the price one must pay for the privilege of finger touches.

Ha! I thought the same thing about All Is Forgiven with the Prodigy sound... Jim's going from sweet soulful sounds to big beat techno. Fun times!

Overall I was very impressed with Jim James portion of the show, the opener... not so much, to each their own, would have rather seen the choir that they had playing over the PA between sets as there was more energy to their sound. I was glad we got a mix of the encores they have been playing, plus I think we got a longer encore than most.
Good seeing you Rob, hope you had plenty of Red Bulls with the long day you had! Sorry I didn't get to meet up with everybody, we got to the venue just in time to use the early entry and had to secure our balcony rail spots. Next stop Nashville!!
