does it make sense that the NYE shows have surfaced first? DON'T MAKE ME MAKE A "FREE THE CHICAGO SHOWS" t-shirt with balki and cousin larry on the front.
in all seriousness, to those who taped, i would be very appreciative.
I understand your impatience but I think you need to take a few deep breathes. It makes since that NYE surfaced first. It was simucast on the radio and it was a "bigger" show than Chicago. It hasn't even been a month yet, I know you want YOUR show, but there's a lot of great live jacket to tide you over.
There are no shows bigger than the Chicago shows ;)
But seriously, I really want to hear these shows, I hope they surface soon.
mt to the tapers :)

NYE was simulcast on the radio??????

thanks for the lecture.
I'd be grateful for a confirmation of the recording of Sunday......as long as I know it's out there, I can wait as long as needed.
I assume it takes a little time to do these things, and as most people....the taper probably has a day job, and maybe even a family to tend to first.

I don't think I was lecturing. If I were lecturing I would have said something like this:
You should just be grateful that someone likely taped your show and it will likely show up soon. Tapers spend thousands of dollars on equipment, tickets, and travel for nothing in return except for the ungrateful ramblings of impatient fans like you. Tapers have lives, too. The more people respect that, the tapers more there will be.
That's for my boy Kory!
Well put, all this begging for show that aren't even a week in the books is BS. That kind of shit only does two things, pisses tapers off and can potentially make them keep the show just to prove a point. Like Dylan said, they spent the money and pretty much ruined a carefree show experience so other could experience what we all feel is so magical.
That said, Dylan... I'm on a beer break for another week or so (http://www.theh2oproject.org/) but after that, we need to organize a nice two hearted get together with the local crew. You going the the Follow the Train final show this Saturday?
Yeah, I'm going to try to make it. Did you go to Wax Danny Glover MF cover band for NYE? I'm sorry I missed it.

you're right, that's not lecturing at all. and good catch on my ungratefulness, i realize now using words like "appreciate" is kind of an asshole move. how high is that horse you've got yourself there?

I'm on my high horse? You start a thread called "for the love of god, RELEASE THE CHICAGO SHOWS." and want to lecture me because I have to gull to suggest you be patient with the kind soul who taped your show. Well, excuuuuuuse me.
All that other stuff was just me saying what I would have said had I been lecturing you in the first place, in case you missed that. :)
I'm chuckling that someone is trying to tell someone named "big hungry joe" to be patient.
QuoteI'm chuckling that someone is trying to tell someone named "big hungry joe" to be patient.
I read this thread last night and I too chuckled!!!!
I do agree with Dylan & Kory.......I made a post the other day asking if anyone taped the Chicago shows. All that is really important is that the music get archived. If I am fortunate enough to get to hear it, that's just a bonus ;)
Kory and Dylan,
You guys crack my shit up! Seriously though they are right.
Look at it this way. Remember when you were a little kid, and you wanted a toy soo bad. You knew you would get it for Christmas, but it was August. You wanted that DAMN thing so bad. It hurt to see other kids play with it. Then you got it for Christmas! You were soooo excited you shit your pants! your parents payed a $100 bucks for it, and you only played with it for two days!
Just remember, the anticipation is the best part
At least the Saturday night show...Where To Begin
hold the phone...Sunday was also very nice. I WANT THEM BOTH! please
waiting for tapes sucks!! i'm still waiting for asheville 07. best show i've ever seen my mmj. where's it at? i saw at least one taper. maybe two. so the chicago shows might go down as an epic shows that will never be circulated, which really, really sucks!!
I agree waiting for tapes sucks!
:D
careful: wanting these discs means you hate tapers and are disrespectful to dirt.
Did ya guys see some tapers? I'm guessing you did but I heard the Chicago Theatre has a strict no taping policy. Maybe I'm wrong and well damn, I would kill to hear that 2nd night.
Is anyone thinking they didn't allow any taping becuase MMJ wants to release another live album...I would shit my pants.
For anyone at the shows: How good did they sound? If it was tight and hot, than maybe they know something we don't.
Not now, but maybe in a couple of months a live album would be just right. ::)
QuoteIs anyone thinking they didn't allow any taping becuase MMJ wants to release another live album...
If this was the case they would put notice that no taping was allowed before the shows. It might just take a while for the taper to get it out there. Grateful Dead shows are still surfacing after 30 years. While I hope it does not take that long, bitching about it does nothing but stir agro vibes up in this piece. Spin some Candles and Panties in the meantime.

Were you at the shows? Did you see any tapers?
i was at the shows, and i think i saw a taper the first night, don't think i saw anyone the second night.
they did make an announcement before the show that taping was prohibited so, maybe these won't surface.
one more thing i noticed that i don't know about is that there was a microphone on stage leaning out into the crowd a little bit to pick up crowd noise. is that normal for MMJ? the chicago shows were my first shows so i don't know
I was at both shows and definitely saw (and spoke to) a taper the first night, not 100% certain about the second.
Yes, that center-stage crowd mic is always there.
Based on how quick the NYE turnaround, I'd assume if something was floating around, people might know by now. Which is a shame, because first night "Where to Begin" was awesome. As was everything else that night...and the second night. Damn. We must find these taps.

I hope they never surface, but come out as a release from the band.

anybody else hear them say that taping was prohibited? because i would love to hear confirmation on that.
Almost every venue says that taping is prohibited. A simple email from band management to the venue fixes that problem. I have been able to tape a handful of shows doing this.
i know it's only been a little over 3 weeks, but i'm starting to lose hope.
it seems like a bunch of the other tapes came out really quick after the show.
i know having a tape of a show you went to is quite the luxury, but i was really looking forward to reliving these shows
To answer Bringdaruckus I did see the Saturday show and there was a guy in row 10 in center with taping equipment. I asked him after the show if he was going to post and he said he would on eTree. I've been tracking on eTree and haven't seen anything, not that I'd have any idea how to download the show if I did see it.
Can't wait to get Jacket back in the states next week and hopefully planning some summer shows state side. Later
man, i guess this isn't happening.
:'(
It may surface one day. Look on the bright side, it will be a total surprise then!
I'd really like to hear them since I couldn't make it to the rescheduled dates.
I gave away both nights tix to a deserving soul so I figure I've already made my deposit in to the karma bank...

I find it ironic that a couple of the Japan shows made up on the archive right after they were played and yet still no sign of the Chicago shows.
If anyone has a copies of either Chi shows I'll give you my first born, well almost...

I was at Iowa City and got shorted of what seemed like an already great show when JJ fell offstage. It was GA and I was like 10 feet back back centerstage. Not sure Ill ever have that chance again at a Jacket show to get that close :-/
To top it off, I moved a month later and therefore couldnt make it to Chicago, night 2, which I had had tix for since the day they went on sale.
I think Im with you in the karma bank, sadly

I made some album art for whenever it does surface. There will be a different one for the 2nd night. I'm really excited about this one. Photo courtesy of Jeff Luke.

I keep coming back to this thread, and I keep mentioning that maybe the Chicago shows haven't been released because they are producing a live concert album (another Okonokos). This would keep us crazy fans satisfied while they are making a new studio album for 2010.
Does anyone else think this is possible???
twofingers...nice artwork.
I'd let you kick me square in my nuts to wrap my ears around night 2. And PWW from night 1. You could kick me 37 times.....

Maybe the karma bank is not doing well, you know with this economy.
I know other banks have failed.
Do you think the tapes are Federally insured?

hope....faded..
Anyone...
Bueller? Bueller?
While I desperately want these shows if this delay means it may be some sort of official recording that would be the tops and I would be okay with waiting. There is nothing I hate more than listening to poor quality live shows and a fuckin soundboard from 2 (or combinacion of 2) nights of knock you down MMJ from shows I was at would be amazing, I would finally know how the Okonokos crowd feels!

Those were not board mixes.. They were mixed live from the recording
truck by some random engineer? Perhaps someday that show will be mixed properly with video footage?

I should have been more clear. There are FM/XM sourced shows, some great SBD mixes out there and excellent video rips, here are some:
http://thesteamengine.blogspot.com/2009/06/my-morning-jacket-electric-factory-2006.html
http://thesteamengine.blogspot.com/2009/05/my-morning-jacket-metro-sydney.html

Those sets are the the quality I prefer, 9 times out of 10 I don't care to listen to a fuzzy, audience loud recording. I think it is sick that there are people out there that document just about every live show and I thank them greatly.
Agreed...
Where the PHUCK are these shows?
They have to be doing something with them! A proper release would be my dream come true.
Two of the best shows I have ever had the good fortune to see. I really hope we get to hear them again one day.
i saw a taper night 1 about 20 rows back center aisle. also someone from a different board claimed his buddy taped both shows and he would be putting them up soon- that was 10 months ago.
i recently contacted him to see whats up. i will keep yall posted, if i end up tracking these shows down i will mediafire it or b&p
Sweet! Let us know, pagerage!
:D :D :D
Absolutely would love to get a recording of this show!!!
Psst. MMJ. This would make a great Christmas present to your fans...
I'll echo that, an official release of those 2 shows would be amazing.
hard to believe these shows were a year ago.
my first and only two MMJ shows so far, and i would love to hear them again.
an official release would be the best christmas present ever!!!
anyone think there's actually a chance of these getting a release?
Bump
for the 1 year anniversary. Come on please surface...
sorry if anyone got excited to see this at the top :( >:( :( :'( :'( :'(
Those were 2 awesome f*cking days!
being from louisville I thought the 5 hour drive wouldnt be too bad..
well the weather the night before froze all of 65north causing massive accidents. took us nearly 13 hours to get to our hotel. lol The good thing is now i know mmj is worth a 13 hour drive. This opens me up to see lots more shows that otherwise i wouldve thought were too far away. ;D
Big Hungry Joe, I have a feeling that they sometime will post them on Nugs.net as well as Chicago 2015 because they never posted Beacon Run from Thanksgiving 2015 until they posted on nugs.net Thanksgiving 2022

Hoarding tapers....that hurts.
