didn't see a RC for Forest Hills so throwing this out
1. parkervb +1 (both evenings)
Hopefully me. I ordered 9/11/21 via presale but just realized I never got a confirmation or e-tickets. Tried AXS since I thought they conducted the presale but they said they didn't. Does anyone know if MMJ conducted it? I tried the support link on the MMJ website but it doesn't work. My card was charged and just says My Morning Jacket with a 1-800 number.

bird700level - my tickets are from AXS. I purchased them during the Wed pre-pre sale. Not the Thursday venue pre-sale. Received a confirmation email from 'guestservices@axs.com" that day. FYI
Yeah, I did the Wednesday pre sale also. Ugh

I got mine via the venue presale and it was also via AXS, same as MPP for the artist presale. It's possible you got an ill informed customer service rep. I would contact them again. Good luck!

Would you happen to know if the charge on your card was from AXS? Mine just says My Morning Jacket. I would think it would reference AXS.
I'll let you know next Tuesday. If we decide to go to OBH, we'll probably sell our NYC tickets and save the expense of flying to and staying/eating in the city.

No problem with AXS via public on-sale.
Thanks all. I have sent a message to MMJ support and will try AXS again. Just curious, did you all get etickets already? Im hoping maybe there is just a delay on their end.
I ordered old school 'tickets'. Received them by mail around June 5th. You'd think the eticket delivery would be quicker, right?
If they charged your card, then you should at least have an order placed. Hopefully!

Got my sunrise deluxe room today, so it looks like I'm doing OBH instead. Let me know if anyone is looking for tickets. I guess not having to pay for flights to NYC, the hotel room and other expenses will offset the cost of going to OBH.

Will be there both nights. Night 1 on the floor, night 2 in a seat. Looking forward to every second of music these two days.
Has anyone got their fan presale tickets yet? Believe the only option for these were hard tickets/mail out. These were the 'Runit' presale tix
Jbpats - Yes, I received hard tickets from AXS for the Sept 11 show, back in late May. I ordered them during the first pre-sale day, Wed May 19, ticket receipt says it was printed that day, May 19, postmark is May 21.
Also ordered a second FH pair during the public sale on May 21, and have received those by mail too. Printed on June 10, postmarked June 11. FYI

Can I get an amen that this Ida crap is done and through? I'm feeling good about how FH venue will be by next week and I'm hoping transit and other bits and pieces are good to go. The pictures from the east coast are crazy and of course the power situation in NOLA is also insane. And then of course there's our viral fun! FH was our last MMJ show and I really wish we were going to be with y'all there especially considering 9/11 is such a heavy day that a nice blast of rock-n-roll sure would help with.
Here's hoping the shows go on next week. PA and MD also got pounded so hopefully there's no fallout there either. Sheesh...
Anyone see that the Saturday show is streaming on nugs- just posted on Instagram.
One thing to call out is the stream starts at 8:30 - forest hills has a 10 PM curfew..
I'm hoping it's taped on a lag because a 90 minute set will be a buzz kill

Buzz kill is right. I was concerned about a short set due to the double bill with Brittany and curfew situation. However a part of me has a hard time believing that they would webcast this show and only play 1.5 hours. Maybe on this particular night they will loosen the curfew. This is obviously a pretty significant date which may factor into it as well. At least give us a 2 hour set. Please!

Agreed a 90 minute set back to back nights would be a major disappointment!

I don't want to be a buzzkill but unless there's a weather event, there's little to no chance the curfew gets extended. The venue is in the middle of a quaint little hamlet of a town, and they've been super strict with the curfew for as long as there's been shows there.
I know of only one time it was extended and that was because the show started late because of inclement weather, and I don't believe it was extended for more than a half hour or so.
Here's hoping for all going they hit the stage early enough to get a nice long show, and at worst the webcast just picks up the last 90 minutes of it.

I just find it odd that they would do webcast of a 90 min show. It would be one thing if it were free.
if i fly to NYC and Jacket only gets 15 minutes more than Brittany, I am going to be a lil annoyed. I would have spent that money going to Dicks this week or something.
The nugs start time is a bit of a head scratcher if they are off stage at 10p. The individual set lengths at the MPP and Philly shows should give us a clue as to how long Brittany and MMJ will play, respectively. Fingers crossed for two hours of Jacket!
Regardless, we are ready and will be there.
Great news...I DM'd Bo on Instagram and he said the 90 minute set time is not true and that he thinks curfew is at 11.

I hope for everyone going and those of us buying the stream he's right about the 90 minute set not being true. However, he's mistaken thinking curfew is at 11. It's 10 and always has been.
Unless something has changed recently the curfew at Forest Hills has been 10 pm for a while. And it's a hard cutoff. I saw Bright Eyes there the weekend after Newport and he was scheduled for 7:50 (obviously started a little later and then played until about 10).
Here's the Forest Hills tweet about set times for that show: https://twitter.com/ForestHillsStdm/status/1421482087723454466?s=20
I also saw Wilco/Sleater Kinney there recently (though left early because of bad thunderstorm that paused the Sleater Kinney set for a super long time with no updates) and they ended around 10 as well. They were scheduled from 830-10. From their website: https://wilcoworld.net/tour_date_type/21-august-2021-forest-hills-ny-forest-hills-stadium/
Same thing for the Brandi Carlile show....10 pm cutoff.
I don't see MMJ going past 10 p.m. at these shows. They could start early and get close to 2 hours like they've done in this venue in the past.
Though I'd absolutely love to be wrong and see them really play long. I just assume it'll be two nights of 90+ min sets.
I saw MMJ and Gary Clark Jr at FH in 2017. MMJ got 2 and a half hours, GCJ got 1 hour. They started the show EARLY (6:00 ish?) so both could play a full set. Ushers were calling people in from the concession area for the start. I'm guessing these shows will be the same. 10:00 hard stop.
If you're intending to see Brittany's full show (and I hope you are) come early. It's a really cool venue, and the concession midway- with its festival feel- is nice to hang out in.

Wow. That's great news.
I was hoping they'd work something out to have longer than a 90 minute set. I thought it would be more along the lines of starting earlier, because I never expected FH to extend their curfew. It's a very pleasant surprise they have.
Curfew extension at FH?!?!? Great news indeed and I'm so happy for all of the folks that are going! I am also shocked that they are able to do this and I'm super interested in seeing what actually happens.

Any pre show meet ups?? I am on no social media so just asking!!
i'm not on FB and there isn't really a "Jacket Twitter" like Phish Twitter so I am wondering same thing.
My flight lands pretty early on Friday. I was thinking of stopping by the US Open site and then heading towards FH. Would be down for a meet up.
ericm - I know you're not going but you're also a man of knowledge, where are some spots with outdoor seating or patio near FH?
Hey!
There are a number of cute spots right outside the stadium. In 2019, I believe we met up at Austin Public or Forest Hills Station House. Keep in mind, the Mets are playing at home AND the US Open is going on, so DO NOT DRIVE!
I would definitely try to stop in for a meet up if one is happening!
Quote from: parkervb on Sep 08, 2021, 10:38 AMericm - I know you're not going but you're also a man of knowledge, where are some spots with outdoor seating or patio near FH?
What Trish says.
I know you said you're flying in but 100% agree with Trish about not driving to the venue. It's a PITA, and parking isn't fun either. Not sure what airport you're coming into but if there's a way to either subway or LIRR from there, that's the way to go.
Every time I've been there we took the LIRR out of Penn Station NYC. Easy peasy and not hard on the wallet either. The LIRR FH train stop is right there outside the venue and pretty much in the center of the pre show meet up spots. It's a really cool little area of the town and several places to pre/post show hang.
If you were flying into Newark and renting a car, I'd pass on the car and take a NJ Transit train into NYC Penn and LIRR from there.
Also once you get inside the grounds there's a lot of room to hang out in the open air. Plenty of food and drink options and places to just lounge and enjoy the atmosphere.
Enjoy the shows and all the great tri state fans that'll be rocking with you. Sorry to miss this but I'll be streaming and rocking with you all in spirit.
excellent info! Yes, I fly in tomorrow morning at 8:30 to LGA. Looks like I can grab a bus to the train station on 65 St and take the E Line to Forest Hills stop. I was thinking of killing time by stopping by the US Open area but wasn't sure if there was a public grounds that didn't require a ticket. I got a buddy from CT coming down for the shows and I'm staying with him so I will be sure to talk with him on the commute plans.

There ya go, sounds like you're all set.
I don't know much about the Ashe Tennis Center so can't help you out there but here's a couple more subway trains in addition to the E you can take to 71 st in FH:
F - (orange circle) - Queens Blvd Express/ 6th ave local
F - (orange diamond) - Brooklyn Express
M - Queens Blvd local/6th ave local
R - Broadway local
All of these stop at 71st and about a 10 minute walk to the venue. If there's a LIRR stop near where you're staying, that's the way to go IMO. Even though a little bit more money than a subway, the stop is pretty much right at the venue. You walk down the stairs to street level and you're there.
this is so sick soexcited to watch the stream (already ordered)....we are looking at about 2 hours and 30-40 minutes, but knowing Forest Hills maybe just 2 hrs and 20. Either way, the band should've started at 8, given themselves a bit more leeway. I don't like when performances have a clock on everything, that's why these curfews fucking suckkkkkkkk!!!
Anyway here's my kinda dream setlist of weird:
I WILL SING YOU SONGS >
IT BEATS 4 U >
THE DARK >
EVIL URGES >
ALUMINUM PARK >
REGULAR SCHEDULED PROGRAMMING
HEARTBREAKIN MAN
IN COLOR >
THE DEVIL'S IN THE DETAILS >
THEY RAN >
SLOW SLOW TUNE >
DONDANTE >
WHERE TO BEGIN
SOONER
RUN IT
DANCEFLOORS >
EASY MORNING REBEL >
GRAB A BODY / RUN THRU (END OF) >
COBRA (3/4)
WASTED >
LAY LOW >
----------------
FEEL YOU >
STEAM ENGINE >
PHONE WENT WEST >
OBH
(there's no way they'll do this but my god would it be cool? hard to pick these set lists because of the new song factor)
I think you guys are going to get at least one and maybe more ode to NYC covers on 9/11.
I have no idea right now what they'd be, and will give it some thought but after reading that JJ interview I think it's a given they'll do something.
I ordered 4 tickets for the Sep 11 show on May 19 using the "Runit" presale. Only option to receive them was physical delivery via TicketsToday. I still have not received them and am pretty worried. Got a confirmation email they were mailed on Sep 1 but never came. I tried contacting ticketstoday@customerservice.com three times this week, tweeted at them and the band, called their 1-800 number that is now out of service, and nothing back.
Do you all know if I will be able to get these at Will Call with my order number and credit card? I was going to go to the box office in person to find out on Friday (tomorrow). I'm posting here because have gotten zero feedback or help elsewhere. Any advice or knowledge would be helpful, have seen MMJ about 10 times before and have never had this issue!
Does Brittany come out and sing "It Makes No Difference" at these shows? Or maybe a different song/cover? No way she doesn't guest, right?

That's super alarming, Jeff. It sounds like the tickets need to be mailed way earlier with all of the problems that mail is having right now. Hope Will Call has them for you!
I know, very bummed! I did finally hear back from ticketstoday after filing a complaint w/ BBB last night. They marked the tickets as "lost in transit" and I have to get them on day of show. Honestly not ideal bc still not in hand until right before the show, but should it work out. Very excited for the gig! Weather looks perfect!

Great to hear you have a resolution! Have a great show(s)!
Made the call late yesterday to book a flight and a hotel and fly out from Michigan and catch both these shows! I just did not want to miss these Forest Hills dates! Going solo to a Jacket show for the first time, too! Couldn't rally the crew to pack up and spend more nights in a hotel room! Should be interesting! Stoked to see what they have in store for us!
Are we expecting Brittany right at 6:30...
Leaving WTC soon to head to Queens. What's good on a meetup? I'm likely gonna grab 1-2 bevs nearby and head in early I think.

I saw that she posted on Facebook that she is coming on promptly at 7 for Merriweather, Philly and FH. However we all know how that turned out for Merriweather and Philly.
Getting a beer at Station House. In a shirt that says OZZIE. So say hi if you're coming through.

Here's hoping she does hit the stage at 7:00. Would've preferred 6:30 for all those going but gotta hope it's no later than 7:00.
Enjoy the show everyone.
Enjoy the show folks and wish we were there to see it with you! Dead & Co for us tomorrow night so we'll be streaming Sunday...

I agree 100% as the reason why. But I also think this is Bull shit. Most people hang out by the concessions until the first note is played and believe that is what draws people to their seats.
So go on when you are supposed to!

Will the band only be able to fit in 2 hours and 10 minutes or so tomorrow for the big stream? If so that'll be sad but if I can't be there then I can't pass up any chance to see pro shot live footage of the band.
Thanks for throwing up the setlist dcfire

It was great! It was a rocking mix of something that felt like a Van Halen/Hall & Oates song. It had real cool chugging guitar riffs and bass lines.
Love Love Love starts around 40 minutes in

I like it. Maybe a touch repetitive but it's a nice groove.

Encore was perfect-o
People on Reddit were complaining about a chatty GA crowd but section 201 where I was, was pretty chill. Plenty of space and well-behaved.
I can't go again tonight, but will be with all of you in spirit on the livestream. Enjoy!

All fantastic choices! Welcome and have a great show!
I was surprised at now Brittany Howard guest last night. Expecting makes no difference (or maybe something new??) tonight?
I did love her starting her set with hit it and quit it yesterday.
the live stream is really awesome. wish they did this for more shows
Ok!!!!! "In color" has officially got me even more pumped for this new album!!!!!!
Man that was great. Thanks you, Nugs! 👏 🙏 Great setlist, but that Marvin Gaye cover was epic!!! Mercy Mercy Me, What Going On!!. Jim has talked a lot about how that album has meant so much to him, so for him to play that on this date during during this crazy time was perfect. Man!! What a show!! 👏 The boys are back!!!
The bear lyrics = bizarro.
That was fantastic!
hope somebody was able to capture the stream. would love to get the video/audio for that show. so good.
That show was special. Lost for words really.
Might have been the best Jim performance I've ever seen, that man owned that stage tonight.
Definitely my favourite so far! This is the sort of thing I'd been hoping for exactly :headphones:
Just amazing. In Color, Mercy, and Steam Engine were highlights. OBH came way too soon. I was so hoping they would surprise us and come out for one more song but I'm not sad. The boys crushed it tonight

Any jacket stream is great, but this one was really on point. Great production and camera work; it seems like everybody involved did their homework and knew which band members to feature during specific parts of songs. Loved seeing Matt in the Hat and Analog Mike rocking out in the front row too!!
I was in Queens last night- and wow. Might be the greatest Jacket show I've ever attended. It's funny because I was privately underwhelmed until they busted out " In Color" and then everything that came afterwards was absolute magic.
The best " Touch Me Part 2" jam I've ever heard- pretty neat how Jim riffed on " The Bear" towards the end. Overall this was an amazing first show back for me. I'm left wanting more!
Compared with the band a few years ago, when vibes were distant and weird- there's a real joy and closeness emanating from the stage.
Brittany Howard had me feeling high! I loved her set.
Wow- last night's set was full of stuff I hadn't heard live, some deeper tracks, and an incredible pair of Marvin Gaye covers which MMJ "made their own"! "In Color" is easily my favorite of the first four songs off the upcoming album, and they nailed it in its live debut.
Coupled with Friday's set full of fan favorites, Brittany's powerhouse sets, and beautiful weather both nights, it was the perfect two-night stand. My live music soul is healed!

I loved pretty much every minute of the webcast last night. Just wished there were a bit more minutes to enjoy and that's why I gotta give the RR shows the edge.
Performance wise last night is right up there no question, just unfair for me to compare because of the difference in set lengths.
Yea fun show and all, but a 20 song set that has 10 post-Z tunes and is missing many of their best live songs is not in their top uh 100 shows at least.

Exactly. I mean, the majority of their career has been post-Z...it's been long enough now that I look at a lot of post-Z songs as classics too. But hey I just happen to like it.

I respectfully disagree, last night was incredible
I'm just on the livestream rewatch, wasn't there but I have to agree with some of yall that the musicianship/stage presence/sound/creativity is as good as it's ever been if not better on this show. But song selection and length are the issues. Lotta blander tunes that there are already a million really good recorded live versions of out there (including on the physical wax that showed up on my doorstep recently!) And twenty songs is just not enough boys! But is what it is.
And that's not taking anything away from the experience of the folks who were there--the Tropics breakdown, for example, is always a blast live even if it's not as exciting when the low notes aren't shaking your chest hundreds of miles away.
Looking at the night one set I really wish they'd streamed that one too so at least we could hear what Phone sounds like in 2021. Oh well. Glad they did this stream! Wish they did more often!

ok, so this is pretty much where I am at with it and I was there both nights. Both shows were killer, but yea for those of us obsessed enough to post on a Fan Forum, we need a few more songs to really put it in an upper echelon show. Now, there were some "peaks" and moments that I think are going to remain noteworthy for years and that will set these shows apart...
Night 1: the jam out of Lucky is great and has some real potential for longer jam or transition, live debut of Love Love Love, killer as always OTR and the run of songs from Run It through the encore is up there for me with the best 6-7 song run I've seen live over 25 or so show Jacket shows
Night 2: this was like 2 different shows for me, the first half was ok, I liked hearing the WF2 songs, the Vic Dance-Compound opener combo is a lil too 2017 for my taste but whatever. BUT from Golden on through the remainder of the main set?? That was OUTSTANDING. THe Marvin songs were so perfect and the crowd knew it was special in the moment. MUCH preferred the encore from N1 but this was good. There was a sign for The Bear so I have to guess that's why the lyrics got mixed into TMP2.
Also, Saturday...more like Chatterday. So MUCH chatter everywhere. We moved at one point because this group of college bros were literally standing in a circle talking loud AF during Golden. And we were like 30 feet from the stage not back in the crowd. I will say that despite this, Forest Hills is an amazing concert venue and I will be back next time they play there.

Consensus (one might even say overwhelmingly so) is that their first 4 LPs are their best work. So how is it an odd parameter? The 2nd half of the show is great. First half isn't anything special. A show with no Dondante, no War Begun, no IWSYS, no Phone, etc just isn't in the pantheon. Not even close.
Did anyone happen to rip the webcast? Audio + video? If yes and someone wanted to DM me a link I would appreciate it greatly!
I was there for both nights, truly some special moments. The ones that come to mind first are (in no particular order): PWW + Sly Stone, Marvin + NYC tribute, seeing Run It for the first time plus the way they stretched out the end (I least I think they did, hard to remember), Touch Me pt. 2 jam + The Bear, In Color's debut.
I continue to feel that Wordless should be shelved for a minute to allow it to freshen up. At least they opened with it. Usually it bats the top of the order in the encore. Believe can go away forever. But I'm not going to pine for the days of 2012 or whatever and hope we get more TTF or AD deep cuts. Not on this co-headlining bill anyway. They have two full albums worth of new material, shit's going to get bumped as a result. Hopefully by the time the Chicago run rolls around they 1) don't have to be overly concerned with curfews which 2) should allow them to dig deeper into their back catalog and introduce some new covers.
Reminder that if anyone has a rip of the full webcast to please slide all up in my DMs!

Alright- by that standard the band will never play another show that you consider on the caliber of greatness again unless they become a nostalgia act. All of the songs you mention are still in the rotation- you aren't going to get a show from this band where they ignore their last 16 years of music. To each their own.
A LOT of people think this was one of the best shows in years- ( we don't need to discuss lists..) and I'm going to stay excited about that. :P
New covers that lived up to the moment- great song debut- one of the best versions of one of their best songs ( Touch me Part 2)-I'm not going to fault anyone for having this show on a list.. but I'm a little bias. :P

unfortunately, imo, precious few songs from their last 4 albums match the brilliance of their first 4 (though i think EU is underappreciated by many.)
it's gotta be a tough juggling act. working new songs into the rotation means dropping longtime favorites. i'd much rather hear, say, 'just one thing' than 'feel you,' but i understand they're touring behind a new album and are going to play new songs.
if any band keeps going long enough, they're going to eventually deal with the 'nostalgia act' label. made the trip to cleveland to see the who in 2000, before entwistle died. they hadn't produced new music for 18 years. still in my top 5. if this was a nostalgia act, then please, give me more nostalgia acts.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJgPqfLJ9Kg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJgPqfLJ9Kg)

so some of yall noticed the lil kiosk on the far side of the venue that had some different posters for the show but wanted to let those who didn't check em out and be sure Mr Bill Sullivan sells each of the 50 he has for each show. I'm in the process of updating all of my bootlegs with custom art, and I'm using this poster for the cover for this show.
Betsy and I really enjoyed watching the 9/11 show yesterday. The boys looked and sounded great and we really appreciated the excellent stage camera work and behind the scenes shots of things like Patrick walking to his drum kit and up close shots of Tom and Patrick jamming out. The shots they got during the Marvin Gaye covers of lower Manhattan with the WTC memorial lights turned on and the red/orange crescent moon were off the charts awesome and worth the price of admission alone! We hope to re-watch it again tonight.
We both enjoyed the setlist as well and really liked the new In Color debut. RSP works really well live and I can't wait to hear the rest of their new album both studio and live. And of course we want to hear more of Waterfall II live because we are really digging that too.
I have to agree with the folks that say new music adds to and not subtracts from their older albums. I always thought it was super sad when a band releases a new album, only plays a few token songs from it on the release tour, and drops the songs forever moving forward. I love all of MMJ's studio work and of course there are some albums I love more than others, but that doesn't mean at all that I don't want to hear anything they want to play live for us as long as they are playing it well and with gusto (and they never let me down).

Z Came out 16 years ago- all this proves is that the band continues to evolve. It's odd for that to be your perimeter..
I certainly agree with you that their first four records are their best, and if I were writing the set lists (which I might remind some of the grousers the band was as recently as a few years ago inviting fans to do), they would look a lot different from the shows so far this tour, including Forest Hills. But you lose credibility with me when you say "without this or that song, the show can't be an all-timer." That completely misses most of what makes shows great and historic. The songs matter, but not as much as what they do with them onstage, and the mood and energy created by the performance are significant parts of the equation that don't show up on paper either.
Phish played a 47-minute Soul Planet a couple weeks ago that's the third-longest jam of their career. 3.0 song most fans actively dislike, but you know what? The band loves it! And when a band plays music they love and are excited to be up there playing, magic can happen.
And magic is most definitely what happened on Saturday night. I'm lucky to have seen a lot of all-time great MMJ shows, mostly in and around NYC (Terminal 5, Williamsburg Waterfront, Cap '12 and TTF, Beacon Thanksgiving) and multiple Red Rocks/CO runs...and it may be a little bit of recency bias, but I think Saturday night is right up there with the best-played and most special to be a part of shows I've ever had the pleasure of attending. And the fact that they played nothing from At Dawn or TTF doesn't do a thing to degrade it in my mind. They're doing what makes them happy and fuels them creatively and spiritually, and it's unmistakeable when you see it.
And as recently as Aug 2019 (only a few shows ago) they played TTF show with all the old rarities, and not long before that they were doing every song in their catalog at OBH. Give 'em a break!

And you lose credibility with me when you tell someone else on the internet that they lose credibility over their opinions. Shrug. Songs matter more than the mood for me, agree to disagree. Not trying to piss in anyone's wheaties, just think there's a ton of recency bias at play (Remember when people said Feel You was one of the best ever Jacket songs b/c PiNk FlOyD? Doubt as many feel that way today.). But if you love the modern cleaner version of Jacket, more power to you. I prefer the dirtier psychedelic side more and the songs where Jim actually wrote mysterious/evocative lyrics and didn't operate in corny cliches. But certainly a great version of Touch Me and Dancefloors. Didnt love the Dondante-ing of the Steam outro, pretty uninspired imo.

At the same time, I would also say it's important to remember that not everyone gets into the band at the same time. And I think that plays a big part for what songs people enjoy at live shows. For me, personally, I learned of the band through Okonokos so Z, ISM, and even Evil Urges hold some sweet spots for me and will be the songs that remind me of when I discovered the boys. My first show was Bonnaroo 2008 and I had been listening to them for about a year or so leading up to it.
Did I eventually dig into the older tunes and find a lot of amazing stuff? Yeah, for sure. But it also took me a little more time to really get into it since it was definitely more of an alt-country/folky rock kind of sound. I went through the same thing with Wilco and got into them during their more experimental/trying different things phase (YHF) and was surprised to hear their older stuff sounding more traditional. I also imagine having the change in lineups has an effect on things from back then.
So I feel like the group (and apparently Jim) wanted to focus more on the catalog that features all of them. I'm sure those older songs aren't done forever but I appreciate them maybe drawing a line in the sand for this early part of the tour and trying to really get all they can out of their last decade and a half of released material considering a good chunk of their audience likely started to listen to them during that time. It's easy to complain because we've been spoiled so much over the years with varied setlists and especially the Spontaneous Curation tour shows. I'm still thankful that they will still change up their setlists for the most part and keep things fresh as opposed to a LOT of current acts that just play the same setlist with one or two changes from show to show.
That said....I will ALWAYS be happy to hear "I Will Be There When You Die" or "The Dark". I'm sure they'll be back at some point.
I swear, Steam Engine could come out today and people would complain that it's not as good as the old stuff.
I feel like we're overlooking something here. Here's a band that we now know how close we came to never seeing again. A band that instead of breaking up, is now releasing an album of new music for the second year in a row. Let's just stop and appreciate the fact that not only are these shows happening at all, but by all accounts the band seems to be playing better together than they have in years. Plus, they're still doing no repeats on multi-night runs! From where I'm sitting, we've got it pretty good.
But while we're here, the first four albums are the best and their best sets come from the non-album cycle tours.

This.
Do people seriously not see songs like Slow Slow Tune, Smokin' from Shootin', Spring, Compound, Victory Dance, Run It as up there with songs from ACT 1?! I know some of them suffer from piss poor production (lookin' at you Compound - what WAS the thought process behind making that song sound totally thin and limp?!) but it's all gold live, IMO
The new album seems like they're regaining some of that MMJ 'rawness' that's been bleached out in studio by certain producers over the last few albums, whilst still following their usual trajectory of doing something a little different with a new vibe. Compare them to some bands (The Killers for example) who seem to be stuck in an infinite loop of releasing pale imitations of previous works. Tellin' ya, the wrong band is selling out stadiums in the UK
Have seen MMJ over 10 times. The 9/11 Forest Hills show was up there with the best of them. The combination of a glorious new song (In Color), apt covers (Marvin), and Lay Low--->Steam Engine--->Dancefloors was beautiful.
They're such a great band. So much better than anything else in existence right now. They just operate on a separate plane, and it can be hard to grasp that when in the throes of setlist-watching , timing the shows, or whatever else folks pick at to no real avail. I'm so grateful to be able to see them and so happy they came out of the covid break together and better than ever.
I hope to catch them in Denver around NYE. Until then, thank you MMJ!
so Jeff Blauser...did you play SS for the Braves in early 90s?

Hahah I wish! I'm a longtime Mets fan actually, just loved that guy for his name and hustle. .354 career OBP, unreal!
I was watching TMP2 on Youtube, had to pause it to take a call and when I came back to my desk, this was where it paused. Look how happy that man seems! A FAAAAAAR cry from that handsome face being covered by large sunnie.

so, I was downloading this show from Archive and started looking closer at the picture on the show of Jim holding a FDNY shirt. It honors Bobby Lane, so of course I had to look him up. 28 yrs young when he was one of the first on the scene that morning. From this writeup:
Mr. Lane was also passionate about music. An alto saxophone player, he owned nearly 200 compact discs, ranging from heavy metal to classical.

I am guessing he would have had a DAMN fine time at the show last Saturday. If he had family and friends there, I hope and am sure the show brought them some joy and connection to Mr. Lane.
not sure if this got posted anywhere but it, of course, slaps
