Hi!
So i hvae been a huge fan of MMJ since 2008. I remember i downloaded your albums on my iPod when i was moving to Beijing (Sorry for that).I just falled in love at once and i had you up there with the biggest bands in the world. Oh my what memories i have with your songs.
So i stayed in Beijing until 2015. I did not excpect you to come to China and play. Bob Dylan was there once but not possible to get tickets. Only high parlament people would get in :) Kinda funny when you think about it.
So now ive been back to Sweden for 6years and still not seen you here in Europe. It makes me sad becuase i belive i would fall for you guys even more if i could just get to see you live. I live close to Copenhagen so thats no problem and i could even think of flying as long as Italy for a concert. Even drag my soon 40 year old body to a festival. Thats how desperate i am.
Could you at least give a hint on a European tour? Just to make this sad Swede a smile on this rainy day.
Maybe its not the right way to write it hear, but listen to your songs all day long makes a man desperat. Sorry for my bad english!
Love to you all!
Ps. I could think of flying to US for a concert, but then i want to be 100% in charge of the setlist.
Anyone heard any whispers yet? I've now noticed bands/artists announcing UK shows for as far ahead as October/November so my fingers are crossed for MMJ to finally announce something! It would be the cherry on top of an amazing year for bands coming over here if this happened! :cheesy:
Billy Strings just announced some new dates in Europe so hopefully MMJ follows along sooner than later.
Here is a link for us Europeans to show how much we want MMJ to come to Europe!
https://chng.it/FQRjgWZHpF
I'm sure they will come! Arcade Fire just announced a European tour for September which is very short notice compared to most bands so I'm not ruling out anything for MMJ just yet
Though part of me thinks next year is more likely - I know for the sake of actually getting paid a lot of "alternative" bands from other parts of the world like to tour here when they can also book festival appearances. I think if we don't get some kind of announcement by next spring we know they've broken up with us
Im starting to feel that the only option to see them live is to go to US or Mexico. When was the last time they were in Europe? 2011 was the last time they played in Sweden and that was in a small place.
But i really hope you are right!
I also start to wonder if they really understand how many fans they have in Europe. :)
Last two shows they played in the UK were to crowds of 2,000 and 1,500. That's not bad! I don't know about Manchester but London was sold out. There are international bands and artists coming to Europe/UK and playing much smaller shows this year! Fruit Bats are playing London's Bush Hall in September, which has a capacity of 400! So where are our Jacket shows :cheesy:
Exactly! I'm going to watch Wilco in Copenhagen 13th of June in Amager Bio that takes 1,050!!! MMJ could easily take an bigger place in Scandinavia.
Dreaming out loud here but I've been snooping around the net looking at music venues (mild obsession of mine) and I've come to the conclusion that MMJ really should play Printworks in London. Not only is it one of those cool abandoned industrial buildings - it has no curfew which is an absolute rarity in this stupid country! We're overdue a "mammoth" Jacket show here and I'm just speaking this into existence... imagine about a 2 or 3 night run here in lieu of a full scale UK tour, no repeats... :cheesy:
More and more bands are doing "mini residencies" in the UK instead of touring. LCD Soundsystem are about to play 5 or 6 nights in London because it's easier than touring. A couple of UK bands I like are even doing the same. It's what got me thinking!
This place looks cool, especially if you can get those upper level seats!
Lucius that's just perfect for MMJ! I would be there all 3 nights infront of the stage crying like a child. Seems like they are no big fans of travelling so a flight to London and back is all we ask for.
But there are still no rumours of a concert outside North America?
Maybe it's time to start planning my first ever trip to the States.
Hey TLE! While we all know control of setlists is not going to happen a similar effect can be achieved by going to a multi-night run in a single city like NYE shows or what almost happened in Louisville. We'll happily go to single shows here and there within driving range as we can but we make a special point to go to the multi-night runs if at all possible just because the odds are higher that we'll get the off the wall stuff.
In spite of all of the crazy ass shit you hear about our country the USA is a wonderful country to visit for travel. Where else in the world can you see things like our Great Lakes (which of course we share nicely with Canada), the deserts of our southwest, beautiful coasts on both the Atlantic and Pacific, great cities like NYC/Chicago/SF/LA, and of course our Rocky and Appalachian Mountains? We've got places to stay if you want to get out into the woodlands. Come on over!
The angry emoji was more about the economic (my wallet) of traveling to USA. Its not really great times in Europe right now with the horrible things happening in Ukraine and it also makes everything expensive here and leaves not much left in the wallet every month.
I've always wanted to visit USA. Its just never happened and don't know why, but going to a MMJ concert would be a reason enough.
Let's hope everything goes back to half the normal it was before Covid and I would gladly walk down fith avenue on my way to a MMJ concert. Maybe that's not the right street but it was the first I thought of 😊
If I start saving now I might *just* be able to afford to come over for the self titled album 20th anniversary tour
I'm hoping they'll get over here next year. If not - I think (not counting W2) the self titled album will be the first one they haven't toured here!
we will be in Europe end of March/beginning of April next year. So that would be the perfect time for them to return to Europe, obviously.

Next Spring would be great! Pleeeeeeeeeease boys :cheesy:
They just posted on Facebook "Keep an eye (or two) out" Translated in to Swedish that means that you should check out something for big news. Maybe it does not work to translate like that? Could it be big news about a world tour or do I just over analyse this? 😁

keep an eye out
1. be alert.
2. be careful.
3. be on guard.
4. beware.
5. check out.
6. have a care.
7. heads up.
8. hearken.
.........?
No rumours on a European tour?
I can't imagine they are heading your way anytime before spring 2023, and that probably means we will be hearing about OBH and NYE sooner than later (and maybe some more shows in November?).
Spring '23 shows for the UK are starting to be announced by various bands/artists now so I live in hope! But realistically I don't think they'll be back over here until they can book a festival slot or two - which is probably the only thing that made them coming over in 2015 viable. 2 UK dates in <2000 capacity venues can't have been a huge earner for them! Something tells me if it happens - it won't be until this time next year at least.
I hope I'm wrong though. April/May time would be perfect :cheesy:
Interesting article about the current state of touring...
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/oct/28/youre-doing-it-purely-for-the-exposure-why-many-musicians-can-no-longer-afford-to-tour (https://www.theguardian.com/music/2022/oct/28/youre-doing-it-purely-for-the-exposure-why-many-musicians-can-no-longer-afford-to-tour)
Given the fact that MMJ has zero live performances scheduled for the foreseeable future (or any future) it's going to be very interesting to see how they move forward in 2023 and beyond given the chaos in their business. I have got to think that this mess is a big part of why there is no NYE or OBH lurking on the horizon for us. The frustrating part for me/us is we want to direct cash into the band's pockets but there are only so many ways to do that these days that make sense for us. We don't do vinyl, the days of CDs are done, so all that really leaves is live events (which there aren't many of and at this point and cancellations >> actual shows sadly in our experience), merchandise (which we definitely gobble up), and streaming (which we know the band doesn't get a fair share of).
And then there's Live Nation raking in money hand over fist especially with their new demand based pricing scheme. I wonder how much of the bonus cash that comes out of this racket actually makes it to the band? I'm guessing not much if any...
Meanwhile there's this to ponder https://mymorningjacket.com/events (https://mymorningjacket.com/events)
I feel for Santigold. She's not had an easy ride in the industry. One of the hardest working artists I've followed over the years, she's incredible, yet her and so many others just seem to get absolutely nowhere. She has some fairly recognisable songs in her catalogue, too - much like MMJ - but the industry just threw her aside. I'm glad 'alternative'/smaller artists and bands are starting to speak up.
I don't have high hopes about seeing many smaller US acts over here anytime soon. It used to feel like a given but now anytime someone makes it over here for a few shows it feels like a miracle! I was due to see Lucius twice in September and similarly they had to pull the plug as it just wasn't working. That one really stung!
I hope things change and I hope the industry can make it work again. MMJ back in the UK/Europe is my absolute dream but I'm happy to sit and wait patiently. It will be worth the wait!!!
Two options that could work:
. Do a small residency somewhere - this worked a treat recently for LCD Soundsystem, who did a short run in London instead of touring the country/Europe. This was mostly to save time & energy but must be a more cost efficient way of performing too!
. Buddy up with another band. I wouldn't want to see Jacket as anything other than the headlining band but could teaming up with another band make touring more feasible? Access to bigger venues, potentially new fans etc. I'd love to see them team up with someone like Lucius, maybe Dawes again! They're both great fun live and also have followings on this side of the pond.
Primavera festival in Madrid/Barcelona (how does that work? They playing on the 3rd and the 10th?) just announced! I don't think I can justify for the cost of that trip to see them at a festival but I've got all my fingers crossed for some headlining/indoor dates to be announced either side of it. My bank balance is not ready for this hit but I am :cheesy:

Im still in shock after i read this. There even came a tear. So happy!
I dont understand the dates either. Hopefully we get some more news soon.
If there are no other dates in january i will book my flight to Spain.
Roskilde Festival is end of june......
Agreed that if there are no headlining dates announced around this appearance I will *try* and make Primavera work. But there has to be a tour coming with this!
Yeah they play 3 and 10th in Spain and end of july they play in US. So im hopefull of alot of concerts in Europe june and july.

They're booked for at least one US festival in June, so I think it's more likely the Euro leg will be in May/early June with the second weekend of Primavera being their last show before coming home.

Oh ok. I just saw the one in end of July.
I'm in Portugal 15-22 May, if that's their week in the UK I may cry... forever
I see two dates in Spain just got announced...

According to Setlist FM, 3 festivals and 1 possible slot as an opening act during the Z tour. Does anyone know if they supported someone on a European tour? The venue listed is an arena.

Do they have a US festival announced for June? Official website currently only has the July one? I'd really love any UK dates to be in June rather than May!
Yeah i canĀ“t see any other dates. Someone wrote here that they were going to play in US in june but i hope he is wrong.
I just cant see that they wont go on a tour in Europe if they finally come here. How many years is it the last time they were here? At least 10 right?
I prefer june also. As long as they dont come to Budapest when im there!

It's going to be very interesting to see how this Euro tour works out. My ultimate supreme fantasy would be to see MMJ at Pompeii, which I am lucky enough to have seen King Crimson play two killer shows at, but I know that's very unlikely. I would be happy if they played at any of the old theaters but my fear is they will focus on festivals which isn't enough for me to get on a plane and cross The Atlantic.

Some fun pictures from Pompeii show number 2 where we had front row center seats (although sneaky man snuck in front of us for the pic). Can you imagine seeing our boys here? Bring it on...

I would definitely try my very hardest to get to a show like that!
Looking at previous European tours they seem to do more Eastern Europe though, concentrating on the mainland between Belgium and Germany and then the sometimes Sweden/Norway and then the UK. I'm actually quite surprised that they've never played a headlining show in Spain or Portugal and haven't played a full show in France since 2008! I thought those guys would all really appreciate some MMJ!
I'd really love to see them at a place called "Troxy" in London. Possibly too big for them at present but not a million miles away in terms of capacity from Shepherd's Bush Empire where they played (and sold out) in 2015! I'd also settle for the Kentish Town Forum!
Is it 2015 the last time they were in Europe?
YES!
whoa! Thanks for posting that clip. I somehow never thought they had done any big touring over there!!

Yeah, it was September 2015 during The Waterfall era. Jim did a solo acoustic show at Roundhouse in London. I think that was January 2019. or 2018?
They've added a third Primavera date, 9th June in Portugal. This festivals line-up/dates just gets more and more confusing
Hopefully not long now until we get some dates for the rest of Europe :cheesy:
Not much happening with the European tour. Don't know if you can even call it a tour.
We know they're back in the US just after the festival so we can rule out the rest of June, sadly. It's also starting to feel too late for them to announce anything for May. Those would surely be on sale by now?! I just bought tickets for a show in London happening in August.
I think a full European tour might be a while off :undecided: really hoping to be proved wrong! But I'm not at all optimistic they've got anything else booked for this trip!
Seeing as they're apparently not in a rush to finish the new album maybe they'll come back later in the year? September time again maybe? I can dream
Yes, hopefully they will come for some ol' September Blues!
This is just me repeating a rumor from one of the FB pages, but they are going to add England, France, and Amsterdam dates.
Jim just said on Discord that they will soon announce more European dates!!!!
My bank balance/credit cards are not ready. But I am :cheesy:

Yeah but as long as we are ready it will work out somehow 😁 I will probably need to fly somewhere also. London on a Saturday evening would be great so I can go and watch some football also 😊
