I expected more of a spring tour with the SXSW dates.  I guess they are planning on having a large summer tour.  I would like to think they will be doing a stop at the big farm in TN.  Working their way up north from there.

Doesn't this coincide with the release of the record? Maybe this will be a "Play the new record in it's entirety" dealio! This might be the kick-off of the summer tour!

Please pardon my ignorance about this, but  I have had terrible bad luck getting good seats online in the past.  If we use this link to musictoday.com at 10:00 on Friday with credit card in hand, do we need to have specific seats to request or will the closest/best seats be default by your place in the queue?

I've already downloaded the pdf of their seating chart if that will be necessary. It is a long, long trip and I sure would like to improve my chances to get a decent seat.

Anyone with some tips for getting good seats for this?

AHHH, this is so exciting! So, I wanted to see how my wife would react to this show. It very well could've been dismissed as another frivolous music adventure. Actual email exchange this morning:

From me to her:  Check out the attached: http://www.mymorningjacket.com/ How awesome would it be to see that?!

Her response back: How funny! I was really in the mood for my Morning Jacket this morning and was listening to them throughout my workout --- you know, if you download the expedia fare-tracker and find a good fare to go to that show, I'll go with you – it would be a quick weekend jaunt – would you want to do that at all?

YES!!!! What a great woman! Now I'm wondering how many tickets are going to be released through the presale. I imagine that the numbers will be low, and the demand pretty high.

This is going to be amazing.  I'm sitting here racking my brain about how I could get up there and what part of sean's apartment I'm going to claim for my own but it's probably not going to happen.  Have fun sean and whoever else can make it!  And of course you are all obliged to come back with a full report (and a recording would be cool too).  :)

Hey Vespachick,
I'm orginally from Texas but have been in NYC for a while now.  I've flown in and out of the Islip Airport a bunch.  It's not too hard, but it does take about 1 and a half to 2 hours to get into Manhattan depending on the Long Island Railroad schedule.  It's basically a $5 van ride from the airport to the Ronkonkoma LIRR station and then about $10 or $11 train fare to Penn Station.

This show is gonna be awesome!!!!

Hey Thanks for the info, B.
$#*!!  After I read your comment, I went to book my flight and then discovered my SW credit expires too soon to use it for this particular trip! Those tricksters: it expires one year from date of purchase, not from date of flight!!  F*CK - Oh, not to worry, I'm still heading to NYC, but I'll have to pay with hard cold cash in which case I'll fly straight in to JFK.

I have to use my SW credit by April 18....I guess I may be heading to SXSW as well!  I'm not too sure about those tickets to the shows though, how the hell does that work???

I may have to make it down to St. Louis, I have never seen the Arch in person.  It's only about 5-6 hours away, it's alot closer than the 12 hour drive to New York, and a hell of alot cheaper to stay at also,  If I go I'll buy ya a Busch Beer  :)

I am Really excited for everyone that gets a chance to go to New York to see them,
GOOD LUCK IN YOUR TICKET QUEST EVERYONE !!!!!!! I will pray to the ticket gods for ya'all.

Yeah, you can literally fly in 55. Last time I drove to Chicago, the guy I went with drove and we made it back in less then 5 hours. The flux capicitor was burned out but hey we made good time. Also, keep an eye out of flights through SW, they frequently have been less then $100 round trip. A round (or several) of Newcastle and Kamikazes are on me.

Hopefuly four, but I haven't really run that by the wife yet.  Last year I told her we NEEDED to buy two tickets to the Boston Pops show because even if we weren't able to make I would be able to sell them on ebay for at least what we paid for them...it didn't turn out so good........we ate the tickets.  :-[

I'm afraid she won't buy in this time.  This is going to be a hot ticket though, I'd like to come away with four though because I'm sure I could find 2 people that really wanted to go and I would be willing to let them go for face value.

No tix for me either.  Why can't you even select either mezz. if orchestra is sold out.  This is really strange.

I got a single ticket, however it will NOT let me buy any more even if I go back in after payment complete.  Plus, I'm way back in Row J, which prettymuch sucks, since all the doubledigit rows are in front of the single.  Crap!!!

I almost hate to say it, but I did get tickets, pretty good ones too. Row LL, seats 205 and 206. If anyone else ended up next to me, let me know...

Don't worry everyone, tickets go on sale to the general public next Friday, and this looks like a pretty large concert hall, so I'm sure we'll all be there together.

(I'm going fucking nuts, this is fucking AWESOME!!! Time to book a flight!!!)

I thought that the first 35 rows were reserved for pre-sale.  How is it possible that with a 4 ticket limit so many were unable to get tickets and it sold out so fast?  Something doesn't seem to add up here.

I was up so early this morning too, eager with anticipation. Oh well, I'm going to go eat some left over pizza and feel depressed for about five minutes. Then I'm going to look outside and realize that it's going to be a nice sunny day here in CA. That will put a smile on my face. My summer plans aren't derailed, just postponed. I'll start planning the rest of my New York vacation now and worry about tickets later. Hope everyone gets tickets soon.

QuoteI thought that the first 35 rows were reserved for pre-sale.  How is it possible that with a 4 ticket limit so many were unable to get tickets and it sold out so fast?  Something doesn't seem to add up here.

"all of the presale tickets are in the first 35 rows"

This does not mean that all of the first 35 rows are in the presale.

Notice nobody has got tickets in section 3 and 4 which are in the center.  I bet these will be the first to go at the next sale.

Yeah, If you get on ticketmaster right when it goes on sale I bet you can get the center section.

Thanks for making me laugh Brian!  I'm a little calmer now (took the dog for a walk so he could crap, he had to hold it while I was at war with ticketmahem!!)

I'm sitting in Orch 2, Row J.  Not TERRIBLE, but not excellent either.  I won't complain to much.

And BH, wise insight on the center rows not being released.  I'll try again next friday!  Have a good one all!!

Incorrect. Those seats are only sold to corporations with no soul, supermodels, and the extremely wealthy, and others who have never heard of My Morning Jacket.

anyone know what the prices are gonna be on ticketbastard? (edit: nvm this question, it was just answered in that note in the previous post)   hopefully these will be available at the box office and maybe i can avoid the exorbitant fees...  wish the presale would have been available at radio city, as i would have been there bright and early.  but no, im sure a bunch of out-of-towners and scalpers were more deserving... stupid online ticket sales.

i really cant wait to see these start popping up on craigslist this afternoon.

Holy crap, you know the spot on the main page that says "Most Users Ever Online" etc, etc.   We blew the old mark out of the water.  I think that says a lot about what when on today.

I know, I've been thinking about what this show means for them. This is a BIG show for them, to be headlining a venue of this size (roughly 6,000 capacity) and status in NYC. I think that their management booking this show, and then the speed of this morning's presale is quite a statement on the growth of their fanbase. 2008 is going to be quite a year for them...there may be a time in the (not too distant future) when we were wishing for venues as small as the RCMH.

As far as everyone getting pissed who didn't get tickets, I can completely understand. We all put a lot of hope into getting seats, and it hurts when things don't come through. But there are plenty left...I'd guess that only 10-15% of the venue seats were sold this morning. And yes, there will be a chunk of tickets down low that will not be available to the public (some of which will be for family...imagine how proud the band's family will be to see them play on THAT stage!), but even after those are accounted for, there will still be several thousand tickets left for sale next Friday. So don't give up!

Bingo...I never buy presales as they are never that great of tickets and it's only a limited qty.

lucky. I couldn't even finish the sentence "Can I Go?" before I got the look of death from across the room.

I'm wondering if they'll have an opening act, and if so, who it'll be. I assume that they will, but hope that they won't. How awesome would it be to have an extended, two set show with them?!?! I know, getting greedy already...Does anyone know what the curfew is at RCMH?

Because it's being billed as "An Evening with My Morning Jacket"  I would assume that it's just gonna be them.

Note- I have no basis for my assumption, just a hunch.

I think "An Evening with" implies that there will not be an opening band.  Isn't NYC the "city that never sleeps"?  Or am I thinking of vegas?

My question is, How easy is it to get drinks during the show?  I can't go 3 hours without a cocktail.  Is smoking allowed?  I don't smoke but other people smoking makes for good cover.  I think I know the answer to that question.  Is NY a smokeless state now?  I'm losing track.

Forgive me if I am repeating myself but I am new to these forums.
This is going to be a fabulous night in NYC.  A Spring, Friday night, almost the longest day of the year in the most beautiful concert hall and with sweet music
These is an artdeco lounge downstairs but the question is can you afford the cocktails :)
I want to thank you guys for your help in getting tickets.  You all are very generous.

One word:  flask.

:)

NYC is tobacco smoke free...not sure if RCMH is as friendly as the Beacon, but I can  find out.  Curfew?  New York may never sleep, but while I was home for Christmas/New Year's we went to a show (The Word @ Terminal 5) that was done before 11.

Yes, that's true.  I've made that mistake too many times showing up thinking there's an opener only to have missed the first quarter of a show.  DO NOT BE LATE!!

RCMH is not as friendly, it was re-done a few years back with new seats and carpet and they like to keep it that way, so watch out...

There is no strict curfew for show sin NYC... it depends on the venue, though RCMH is def using union stage hands so it depends on the contract, if they go longer they will have to pay a fine (ala PJ at MSG in 2003) or they venue may turn the house lights on, while they are still playing (ala PJ at Philly Spectrum 2003) I have never been to a show in NYC where the lights got turned on like that though.
