Title: Led Zeppelin
Post by: peanut butter puddin surprise on Aug 19, 2004, 06:41 AM
alrighty, had a few rounds last night with a brother of mine  ;) and played "four sticks" on the juke box.  that song kicks ass.

whether the "stairway" thingy annoys you or not, ya gotta give it up for the Zep.  What's your favorite, if you have one?

Here's my short list by album:

1.  Presence
2.  III
3.  Houses of the Holy
4.  Physical Graffiti
5.  I

Songwise:

1.  Houses of the Holy
2.  Nobody's Fault but Mine
3.  How many more Times
4.  I'm gonna Crawl
5.  Hot Dog

Of course this is a SHORT list, so many more tracks encompass my obsession... :D

-In the Evening
-Achilles Last Stand
-Hots on for Nowhere
-Four Sticks (muwhahahaha)
-When the Levee Breaks
-Gallow's Pole

shit, you could fill this whole space with great songs you don't hear very often...maybe I should have titled this thread "Zep songs not heard anywhere"  ::)

man, that song is so great.  what a lost classic it is, despite years of radio play...it's been "trampled under foot" by declining playlists and the "black dog" of klear khannel has declared "no quarter" for such AOR formatting.

makes me wanna start "going to california".  at least the woman-and-kind, stuff and wine bits... 8)

QuoteStairway - a classic, even if you don't like it.

Stairway to Heaven was on the radio in the dining room of the hotel we stayed in after the MMJ show in London. Breakfast with Led Zep - magnificent  8)

I bought an album of Australian covers of Stairway to Heaven. There's a reggae version, an Elvis-style version and so on. It is sooo cool. (Maybe this should be on the guilty pleasures thread  ;))

We've gotten this far and still no Lemon Song? For shame.

My fave album woul probably have to be How the West Was Won. (HAHAHAHA live album loophole). There is nothing crap about that CD (except maybe Plant's ability to overdo things in the middle of Dazed and Confused.)

Probably the most fun thing about Zep is actually learning to play the songs though. I don't enjoy listening to all that nearly as much as I enjoy playign it on guitar. Plus, jhalf of the stuff people recognize, which is also uber-fun.

Lemon is ok but I wouldn't put it at the top of my favorites list of Zep tunes, guess I just heard it too much at parties and on the radio :P.  you're right about how the west was won it's awesome do you have the dvd too--that is wicked fun to watch.

Physical Graffiti is my (and Robert Plant's) favorite.  However, it's like trying to pick out your favorite child.  Coda pretty much is lame (in Zep terms) but the whole catalogue is damn near perfection.

Ten Years Gone needs major props

as does

When the Levee Breaks

and... every riff heavy song on II

The shit just never gets old

R.I.P.  John Bonham

Didn't read the this entire thread before posting, but it looks like "favorite song" so...

Four Sticks

I wonder if the the rumors are true about the name of this song being the number broken by Bonham during the recording of said song.

"When the Levee Breaks" is on the short list of greatest songs of all time (right there with "Moonshiner"). Zep's version is truely timeless. The bridge makes my heart burst from my chest every single time!!!

yeah that was a truly spectacular blues shuffle coupled with dleicately overdriven moaning vocals gotta love the way those boys could update a classic sound like that :)

You probably know about this, but I'll tell you just in case. Jimmy's House/Casa Jimmy is a shelter for street children in Rio founded by Jimmy Page. Doesn't come much cooler than that, eh?  8)

yep, read all about it on his website last night after i saw the headline...that IS pretty cool.

I'm still giddy that Jimmy-freakin'-Page got picked as the first person to put their hands on the Walk.  That, my friends, is AWESOME.

Ah, glad this thread made it over to the new board.....

Led Zeppelin - White Summer/Black Mountain Side (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrvfMSYNqBg#)

Doesn't sync up 100%, but it came up as an option, and it's equally as outrageous.....

Jimmy Page - White Summer (1970) Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgntzxpP8BU#)

F'n'a......

I always thought that MMJ could do a sick cover of No Quarter!

What if they played this Live:

dondante > Jam > No Quarter > Jam > dondante

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :)

Wow ChiefOKONO, reviving a long dormant post!  An excellent topic too, classic Zep. Nice YT find, great song, and a pretty good recording for that time too.  Thanks for posting that.
Agree, No Quarter would be a perfect Led Zeppelin song for MMJ to cover,  especially pieced into an extended jam as you imagined.
Suggestion box for the 2021 tour. Lol

You're welcome.  Hopefully someone suggests it to the band :)

Looks like that whole show that the song I posted is from is online and I am looking forward to listening to it!  Haven't really listened to much Zep for some time...

If you like No Quarter, I recommend checking out Tool's version.  It is excellent.  I was listening to Zep about a week ago and when In The Light came on, that's the one I thought MMJ would sound amazing doing.

Led Zeppelin was my MMJ before there was an MMJ. Never seen Zep, but I've seen Page and Plant live- solo, together, Page with the Firm and Coverdale. Like MMJ, it's hard to pick a Zep favorite album, as at any given time, it could change. I am partial to Zep 3, though Physical Graffiti, I think is their best.

Favorite Songs by Album:
Zep I- Your Time is Gonna Come
Zep II- Ramble On
Zep III- Tangerine
Zep IV- When the Levee Breaks
PG- In the Light
Presence- Nobody's Fault but Mine
In Through the Out Door- All My Love
Coda- Wearing and Tearing
