Title: Pearl Jam
Post by: waxy on Aug 24, 2005, 11:30 AM
Anyone going to any of the upcomming Canadian shows?  How about The Gorge, Montana, Atlantic City, or Philly?

I'll be at the Philly show for sure, got my tickets...still working on Borgota tickets, though *keeping fingers crossed*

Is everyone pumped for the new album?  Should be an early 2006 release, really looking forward to it...but first looking forward to the show in October.

Share your Pearl Jam love in this thread!

Yes, I love your No Code avitar and Present Tense signature line.  No Code and Vitalogy are my two favorite PJ albums and Present Tense is one of, if not my very favorite song.  Hearing Present Tense live was quite an experience.  I'm going to have to hold out on this upcoming tour because the shows are just two far away.  Surely they will add some Nashville, Atlanta area shows when they announce more dates.  I can't wait for the New Record allthough I'm not a real big fan of "Cropduster".  I'm not a big fan of they're short punk rockers as of late, I would rather hear stuff like Nothing As It Seems, Sleight of Hand, All or None, Help Help, etc.

Also, I am very excited about the Digital Download feature they have for the upcoming tour.  You will be able to download each show just hours after it ends with show specific artwork.  WHoo Hooo!!!!!!!!!  I own like over 200 Pearl Jam bootlegs, which remindes me if anyone wants to trade Pearl Jam bootlegs let me know.  I'll P.M. you later tonight Waxy about an idea I have.

Yea, I just read that digital download announcement.  On one hand, i like it...on the other hand, i want a CD.  It seems eveytime I burn a CD off a download from easytree, my burned CD skips in my car sterio...pisses me off.

I will be at the Atlantic city show...so fucking excited...it will be my first Pearl Jam show.

I met Jim at Newport Folk, and I plan on doing my best to meet Eddie on October 1.

If I weren't seeing so many great acts in September (Kings of Leon, MMJ, Umphrey's McGee...who knows what else) I would probably go crazy during the month-long wait leading up to October 1.  Lucky for me though, I'll be rocking out so hard for most of September that it won't be so bad.

Pearl Jam and Belgium... It must be about ten years or more since they've played here. Once they were cancelled at a festival here (after the Roskilde incident) and replaced by Live (who actually went on and covered "Imagine" with a bunch of children sitting on stage)!!! Man, lucky I wasn't there... The horror.

So, please come back, you owe us!

Strange?  No.  Awesome? Yes.

I've got a crap load of PJ boots from 91-04.  Seeing them in Philly this year, it'll be my 15th show...possibly getting into the Borgota show, keeping my fingers crossed.

QuoteI own every single one of the 2003 bootlegs is that strange?  All my friends make fun of me, but fuck em I enjoyed every single one and still enjoy them especially Boston 3.

I've asked myself the very same question & I think the answer is no. I have most of the 2000 bootlegs, all of the Japan & Australia 2003 & a few of the US. I became SO obsessed with collecting them!
I saw PJ's 1st UK show at a tiny, tiny club in London called the Borderline way back in 91 & saw them again in 2003 when they came to Nagoya.
I love those bootlegs! Any show where they put "it's ok" by Dead Moon into Daughter does it for me!

I don't post over there anymore, it was to big and to be quite honest I just didn't enjoy the atmosphere over there anymore.  I still check out the forum from time to time I definatly recognize you and Balki and Yield Girl.  I think Pearl Jam has some amazing fans and the band has so much heart I think MMJ has the same things going for them.  I'm not suprised that PJ fans are enjoying MMJ.......Now if we can only get them on tour together, as I've said before I must hear Eddie and Jim sing together.  Can you imagine Eddie's low mixed with Jim's high and then they could get out the little vocal machine Eddie uses on ARC when he did it live to layer the vocals and turn the venue into a Swirling Vocal Mind Bending Oblivion.

to me, Pearl Jam are the best band of the past 15 years or so. They are just about as perfect as a band could be, and a no doubter hall of fame band.
My Morning Jacket is, in my opinion, the second best band behind pearl jam, because the music comes first, and it's great. but they both are very similiar in their approach and doing it the right way and having so much integrity.

My dream is to see a double bill of the two bands, or Ed show up for a song during a MMJ show.  But if I miss it i might cry. I wonder if Jim is a fan of pearl jam or if Ed is a fan of them, i'm pretty sure they both are, they must be.

Where did you hear that??  That would be great.

The recent Ten Club email stated an upcoming announcement  I have a feeling it will be for the Midtown Music fest in Atlanta in September.  I think they would have to wait a while before announcing their own shows especially since their email referred to some "embargoes" regarding DeLuna.  They might not even do any other shows.  In 2007, they only did Lolla in the U.S.

Copied and pasted from the email:

As a head's up to Ten Club members -- we expect to make an additional concert announcement in the next week. Due to embargoes, we can't say much more just yet.

FROM THE PJ FORUM

Pearl Jam:
Music Midtown Festival
Atlanta, GA
Sept. 22, 2012
Set List

01. Why Go (Stone's guitar rig fails for most of the song.)
02. Save You
03. Animal

(Ed says it is a great night to be in Atlanta and he has never seen the city from this perspective, referring to the location where the festival is being held. He also goes to comment on how great Florence And The Machine were and how great Florence and audience crowd sang. He invites the crowd to sing as much as they can tonight.)

04. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In a Small Town
05. Corduroy
06. Got Some

(Ed decides he will take a moment and describe what the next song is about. He talks about the various kinds of love, like first love and the love in the early part of relationship and love that lasts for years. He also says that the band has deep and long lasting love and that yes, men can love men. He says this next song is about the kind of love that is "ocean deep, long lasting love that surrounds you.")

07. Amongst The Waves
08. Wishlist
09. Better Man/Save It For Later-(Charley, Cox, Morton, Steele, Wakeling)
10. Do The Evolution
11. Even Flow

(Ed reminds the audience that it is an election year and encourages everyone to vote and make sure they have the proper ID because some states have new voter ID laws. He also lists the kind of ID that will and won't work. When he gets to gun registration ID working while student ID's won't the crowd cheers a little and some boos are heard as well. Ed says that "in Florida that comment got a much bigger reception. Florida and Arizona seem to be in some sort of bizarre arms race with each other." He then tells the audience that voting is your right.)

12. Know Your Rights-(Jones, Strummer)
13. Nothingman
14. Supersonic
15. Jeremy
16. Porch

(During Porch Ed goes down into the pit and runs along the front and up the center barricades)

Encore Break 1

(Ed says they are going to play as long as they will let them. He thanks Gus for putting on the festival and is happy that back after not being around for a few years.)

17. Crazy Mary-(Williams)

(During Crazy Mary Ed goes down by the barricade again. He also playfully messes with one of the video screen cameramen)

18. Given To Fly-(dedicated to a friend of Mike McCready's named Steve Gleason)

(Ed mentions that "many of the songs we wrote and recorded were done right here in Atlanta with local hero Brendan O'Brien who is here tonight and is a great friend. This is what we secretly call him behind his back. The Fixer")

19. The Fixer
20. Rearviewmirror

Encore Break 2

(Ed thanks the audience for behaving so well. He points out a young boy that is down in front and comments that if kids and small women can be down in front and be okay it says a lot about the audience taking care of each other. He then, jokingly, asks the boy if he would like some wine, Ed goes onto to thank all of the friends they have acquired over the years the band has been together. He also thanks the local crew that worked the festival and the bands long time touring crew. He says the band has been together for a long time and it speaks to their friendship that have never broken up or had really hateful arguments. He introduces the band and says he hates to repeat a story but he wants to tell the story about watching PJ20 with a friend who commented that "Jeff Ament is such a bad ass" and Ed couldn't agree more.)

24. Rockin' In The Free World-(Young)
------------

This was a good show, though it totally felt like a festival show. Looking forward to a full tour hopefully next year. Highlights were Crazy Mary and Know Your Rights. I was really hoping he would bring Florence out for Crazy Mary. I know this was a very run of the mill set, but that doesn't matter to me, since its all new. I've been waiting for 10+ years to see PJ, and it never worked out since I was old enough to travel for shows. It was a fantastic night, but all it really did is make the hunger for a "real" PJ show grow.

As far as Midtown Music:
Civil Twilight wasn't bad. Garbage was so bad. So, so bad. Ludacris... Uhhhhhh. Florence was more boring than I thought it would be, but I can't deny their talent. As someone who didn't know any of their music, it just all seeme to run together to me. The Avett Brothers were good. I enjoy them live quite a bit. But, even live couldn't make me not despise the song "Winter in my Heart". Even typing that made me hate the lyrics more than I did already.

Steve Gleason is a former NFL player who in his 30s was diagnosed with ALS.  He's doing a lot of work in the NOLA area for ALS patients.  ALS is a muthafucker.

Share your Pearl Jam love in this thread!

its amazing how far back this thread goes.  The AC 2 show was my first show followed by Philly...17 shows later PJ has become a religious experience for me similar to MMJ

Greatly tempted to hit up this London show, seeing as it's only 3-hour drive away. Really dig the "Evening with..." aspect too. But man, why London? Not complaining, but just seems bizarre to announce an awesomely unique show like Wrigley, coupled with a show at a hockey arena in London, Ontario. Whatever though, the place is pretty tiny by arena-standards, so I think I just talked myself into it!

Also have a hunch they'll be at Bonnaroo this year.
Title: Re: Pearl Jam
Post by: APR on Jan 25, 2013, 11:31 AM
Dilemmas, dilemmas.  Travelling for two shows is much more appealing.  However....

I'd bet a lot of money that they will add a second London show on the 17th.  They don't need two days to travel to Chicago, and the first show will sell out fast.

All GA at Wrigley is Ten Club, and I'd bet there will be a second show there as well.

Then again there is the Fall to be announced for which it may be harder to get tickets(due to high demand in big cities' arenas as opposed to baseball stadiums).

Rumor has it, according to Stone at least, is that the band just does not sell well in the South.  Be it albums or tickets.  Not sure if that's true or not, but that's what has been said.

I have to hold off on Wrigley.  As fun as it would be to see them in that venue and in that neighborhood, it just wouldn't be financially responsible.  If they happen to do a Boston/Hartford run like they have in the past, or even RI or god forbid Maine :cheesy:, I could see 2-3 shows for the price of 1 in Chicago.

I'm just happy to hear that they are going back out on the road and I have enough time to plan for it.

From what I understand the chicago shows throw some interesting wrenches in the lottery.  Everyone has a shot at winning tickets for GA, after that those that are left have the same opportunity for the lower level if they chose it, then the remaining folks have a chance to get upper box tickets.  From what I understand those that get tickets in the lower level are seated in order by seniority and then the same for the upper boxes.  And it's every person for themselves in the GA.

I'm hoping the fall tour does not have these kind of seating levels, get back to the arenas and have the lottery just dictate whether I get fan club tix.

No hate on Riot Act here... it was actually the album that brought me back into the PJ fold and started the drain on my future savings!  A lot of songs on that album are great live, better than Avacado and Backspacer in my opinion.

It was the album that brought me into the Pearl Jam fold. I had grown up listening to the first 3 records, but RA is what made me "get" that they are one of the best bands ever. It was the first record of theirs that I bought when it came out, too. Because im younger, I guess i was just in the right time to love it, but it remains a favorite of mine. I think there are only 2 categories of PJ records The greats: Ten, Vs, Vitalogy, No Code, Yeild, Riot Act and the goods: Avacado, Binaural, Backspacer. I don't know what I would do with Lost Dogs, cause I don't really consider it an album.

The lottery is tough.  Just too much demand.  I'm concerned about getting tickets for the fall shows now..... especially for a second or third choice show (as I'd like to go to a few if possible).

As far as Riot Act, people just don't like it as much compared to PJ's other albums.  I don't think its' hated at all.   There are a lot of incredible songs (All or None is one of their best mellow songs ever) on there, and I love the album too.  It just isn't in their "greatest" category.  For me personally, that starts with No Code and Vitalogy.

I think it's a great album and was a great tour as well.  I did 7 shows and there were some diverse setlists.

And to think that the 3 b-sides were Down, Undone, and Otherside?  Riot Act is a great album that could have been even better.  Replace Help, Help, Bushleaguer, and Get Right with those 3 and you have a masterpiece.

Pearl Jam was probably the first band I truly loved and still do. Not a lot, at least in my opinion, comes close to a PJ concert. I've noticed looking through setlists that a lot of bands play very similar setlists night after night. One of the things I have always enjoyed about Pearl Jam is each time you see them it is different. My favorite album is probably yield. I like Riot Act a lot. I tried to listen to them multiple times but I haven't been fond of the last two albums, but some people seem to really love them so I'm not dissing anyone for it.

Interesting discussion on Riot Act.

Another thing regarding PJ albums, I'm a bit surprised by the very high regard that hardcore PJ fans give to No Code.  I've always wondered if part of that is just being defiant, given how the mainstream sort of rejected that album.

I think No Code is very good and has some of my favorite PJ songs (Off He Goes, Red Mosquito, Present Tense), but also has a bunch of experiments that range from OK to serious failures (e.g., Who You Are, Mankind, I'm Open).  I also don't think the big rockers work all that well, particularly Habit and Lukin.  So, a pretty uneven album on the whole.

If any of you are in the "No Code is the best PJ record" camp, I'd love to hear your argument for that.
Title: Re: Pearl Jam
Post by: APR on Jan 31, 2013, 09:43 AM
I just think No Code works well as an album and all fits together.  Some albums (by any band not just PJ) seem to be a bunch of 10 or 12 songs to make up 45 minutes.   With good headphones and the volume up you can hear incredible texture in every song on No Code.  If they released Hail, Hail instead of Who You Are as the first single, then I think the mainstream would have fell for the album.   I like when PJ is defiant and does something less predictable.

Throw in the fact that No Code has probably my two favorite all time songs PJ songs (Present Tense and In My Tree), that it gets the nod as #1.  I love the rockers, espcially Lukin and Hail, Hail at a live show.  Sometimes is a great opening song to set the mood and I don't think there is a clunker on the entire album.

I'm one of those Yield fans who likes to joke around about Riot Act sucking, but it's far from their worst album. I have all of PJ's albums and videos, and a zillion bootlegs, even a Y1ELD personalized license plate, yet I don't own Riot Act. My Yield pals thinking I am exaggerating when I say don't have Riot Act, but it's true. That said, I do like about half the songs on it, particularly Can't Keep because you just can't beat a no-bridge song for incredible tension. It's genius, really.

Not owning RI has become a matter of principal that I don't except anyone to understand. (And yeah, you'll find the Fanch on my FB friends list ....)

My favorite PJ studio albums are Yield and No Code. I also love Benaroya, on which RI was respectfully represented.

I agree with this.  I think that Sometimes is a great opener for the album and Around the Bend makes a great closer too.  The albums has it's ups and downs and I think overall its very cohesive.  Add habit as another great rocker, and Smile is a great mid-tempo song as well.  Red Mosquito is another favorite of mine (especially with Mr. Harper on slide). I dont think that PJ gets much better lyrically than Present Tense. Add to that the killer album artwork and you've got yourself one of PJ's best! I'm also a little biased b/c my first PJ gig was in 96 on the No Code tour.
EDIT: And to comment on Riot Act, Save You may be one of their best rockers, and All or None if just fucking awesome.

Yep, that was it.  Thanks, dude.  I was impressed with the guitar sound.  One of my complaints about Pearl Jam is that I usually find their sound a big wash of guitars without space, clarity or distinction between them.  I know McCready can solo, but he gets buried in the mushy sound.  For comparison, check out the killer production and his guitar sound on the Mad Season studio album.  I LOVE that record far more than any Pearl Jam record, probably because it sounds more like the 70s rock I love and less like the 90s grunge that just doesn't float my boat.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Mad Season album.  Really good stuff.  Having never heard it, it's like brand new music straight from the nineties.  Ahhh, Lanye Stayley..  I wonder if the grunge sound would have been as popular without the powerhouse vocals of Staley, Vedder, and Cornell?

Just picked up tix for the Soundgarden Worcester Palladium show in May! Never saw them in the day, so pretty psyched.  Great new album and all reports are that they're putting on a great show.

Eric, I'm not saying their sound is too heavy or too grungy, I'm saying its too mushy and dense with not enough space and distinction between the instruments, which is kinda characteristic of 90s rock record making.  I think you can be heavy and have distinction between instruments. I know, its vague words to describe hard-to-describe stuff  ("...I want the sound of heavy air..."), but for example, Black Sabbath was way heavy on their first few albums, but there was also a lot of space between the instruments.  You can clearly hear what is guitar, what is bass, drums, etc.  Its just how rock records were made in the 70s, I think.  I don't really hear that clarity on Pearl Jam records nor in their live sound, but I do hear it on that Mad Season record.  I wish that the PJ albums sounded like the Mad Season record, I'd like 'em better. I basically want all rock to sound like the 70s, its just a stylistic preference for me. Glad to turn you on to Mad Season, bigloop.  Yeah its a great album.

Just in case you weren't aware, they just released the Deluxe version of Above.

I think it's remastered or remixed.  It does contain two cds and one dvd.  The first CD has extra songs which were they were working on for Mad Season's second album (Mark Lanegan sings on those).  The second CD is live from Seattle.  The DVD is a live show from Seattle.

I'm definitely picking this up.  I've been a big fan of the Mad Season album for many years.  I'm also a big Pearl Jam fan and disagree with Shug about their sound...but to each their own.

That is unfortunate.  Although Charlotte, NC is in the South.

I usually make a trip around a date if they don't come to my area (2005, 2011) or even if they do (many other years) as I'd like to see them more than once per tour if possible.  Like MMJ, each show has its own unique aspect, hence hitting the road will be a must in October and/or Nov.

I disagree with you here.  This is going to kill the Wishlist preparties which are fun ways to meet fellow PJ fans and also raise money for worthy charities.
I also don't want to queue up all day for a chance to be at/near the stage.  If I wanted to do that, I'd go see PJ in Europe.

It's only partial, like a third or half the floor.  I'm with you, I'm too old to queue up in the wee hours, but still...it's a rock show.

Agreed that it's a rock show.  That said, I think GA typically works best in club shows.  Red Rocks can be good with GA as well.  With this GA and reserved at every show, it's really tough to decide which to choose as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc priority for 10C tickets.  I want to have GA for at least one show but I doubt I can get it for more than one...unless I'm able to buy someone's extra 10C ticket.

in actuality it's barely smaller- capacity is 18200 at MSG and 18100 at Barclays, but in my opinion it feels much smaller than the garden

I knew there was a reason I was single and didn't play roommate roulette on the Mexico trip!!  I'm hoping to get tickets for Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Philly, Brooklyn and LA.  Making a trip to LA to visit a childhood friend and hoping to catch both shows there... gotta love miles awards programs!

A little concerned with how the reserved seating will be, with my mediocre number I usually end up on the sides with a great view, I'm hoping I don't get pushed to the floor behind GA, leave those seats for the general public sale.  Either way I'm looking forward to seeing some of my PJ friends that I haven't seen in a while.

Definitely better than Fixer... I'm hoping for an aggressive album myself... doesn't need to be punk necessarily but a good hard driving rock and roll album.  The songs with strings were nice on the last album but I hope that was a one time deal.  I got tired of the same 4 songs starting the 1st encore every show back in '09.

With Mind You Manners and Of The Earth I think the album is off to a good start!  I'm looking forward to the Pittsburgh show!!

Totally agree.  I know for the Worcester show, the 1-6 floor sections are all GA and then there is 7-8-9 in the back.  I hope they just let TM take those, and send non GA fanclub members to the side.

I'm probably in the same boat as you.  I've had some great side staqe seats with my number.  I hope it continues.

Great score Jenfarr and husband.  Wow.

I'm very happy with my luck: got Balt, Charlottesville, and Philly 2.

As much as people criticize (deservedly or not) many of PJ's decisions over the years, they still keep ticket prices quite reasonable.  They could easily charge a lot more (which would hurt ticket brokers and the general fan) and still sell out these venues.

Charlottesville is pretty rad town and in a beautiful part of the great state of VA (i'm from Va Beach).  There is lots of history and some pretty cool wineries if you're into that.  I'm hoping to make this show but there is a chance I might just drive up to Brooklyn.

Hey Charles, would be fun to see you again in Charlottesville (we met at the first Neil Red Rocks show last summer).

In addition to the cool things about Charlottesville as a town that were mentioned, it is a great arena.  Very small and has probably the best sound I've ever heard for an arena.  So, wise choice my friend.

I got Charlotte reserved.  Only show I tried for and got shut out of GA but I'm not complaining.  Last night's show sounds like it was pretty awesome.  I like the idea of a mid-set slow down.  Cheers to all that are checking out some gigs this fall!

The mid-set slow down isn't bad, I just hope they don't get redundant like they did during the Backspacer tour.  We all know they have plenty of accoustic songs to play due to Benaroya Hall, so hopefully they throw in a bunch of different songs during that portion of the show.

Charles

Hey Charles, would be fun to see you again in Charlottesville (we met at the first Neil Red Rocks show last summer).

In addition to the cool things about Charlottesville as a town that were mentioned, it is a great arena.  Very small and has probably the best sound I've ever heard for an arena.  So, wise choice my friend.

Man, you do get around Mr.Whippy! The arena sounds great, and I just reserved a B & B nearby.

Are you going to the Fiddler's Green MMJ/Wilco show?

The Wrigley's show last night had an awesome setlist. I wonder if they plan to play 3 hour shows this fall?

The rumour 'round my neck of the woods is that PJ is going to play the Big Day Out festival. I love the thought that they'd be coming back to Australia but I hate BDO. It's full of drunk bogans. It's the epitome of annoying concert behaviour in all its forms.

Post by: ralph on Jul 24, 2013, 06:52 AM
Pretty much confirmed weenie. Worst possible news. The schedule doesn't leave much room for side shows either. Guess this may be the first Aussie tour that I won't see any shows of. Kinda bummed but kinda not either...
Title: Re: Pearl Jam
Post by: weeniebeenie on Jul 25, 2013, 09:33 AM
I will go if I can. Not seeing them at all is worse than seeing them at A Big Day Out to me. Soundgarden suited BDO, it was a smaller crowd and no one was an idiot. That won't happen for PJ.

I was at wrigley and have to say every pj show I attend so does more and more fucking douche bags. I went to the in 2004 and 2006 and it was bad at that point.

I went in for nine shows (both pit and GA for all) and only got pit for Portland.  That is a first for me (member since 92).  That being said, Portland was the show I wanted most and after coming off the Wrigley show (we had field seats) I'm good with that.  We also won lottery for the travel package w/BBQ at Wrigley the night before and got an excellent (and unexpected) band sound check.  I'm saving my ducats to pay for my high baller One Big Holiday trip anyway.

Cool Bill, glad you won.  My friends talked me into the Brooklyn shows, hoping the shows live up to the hype that surrounds NYC shows, if not I get to hang with my friends, which is more of the point... I got Philly 2 as well, not sure of my plans on that one yet.  Need to figure out if I can get out early to tailgate and where I'll be meeting my buddy.

Yes if you get seats behind the stage you can still see the band, obviously it's not ideal though and probably more of a last ditch effort thing.  Last time I saw PJ was at MSG and they all turned around to face those seats when they played Elderly Woman....

I was directly behind the stage in Pittsburgh and it wasn't bad at all, it beats being in the nose bleed section. And yes the back of the stage is completely open with not a lot of obstruction. Eddie occasionally turned around and walked toward the back of the stage to acknowledge us. There were two screens (not sure if they were provided by PJ or the arena) for us to glance up at too to get a viewpoint from the front.

Would you say your interest is still waning or is it back?  I have to admit my interest is not what it was 5 or 10 or 20 years ago.  But after seeing them in Philly night 2, it's still pretty great to see them play.  I wouldn't say mind blowing, but definitely better than decent.  Philly 2 had an incredible Better Man.  I'm fired up for Baltimore and Charlottesville now.

34 songs, 3hrs, 10min on Friday night in Hartford.  And probably the loudest crowd I've ever heard.

I still think they are the best live band on the planet right now.  Other than Pendulum, they are still switching up their sets pretty well.  I love the double slow opening songs they've been doing.

With them getting older and having families, their tours are going to be a lot shorter.  But, they are leaving it all out there, playing 30+ songs a night.  And the no opening act has been great.

I went to Hartford and Baltimore, both were great shows. I've been to the last 4 concerts in Hartford, and this was probably the best crowd. 2008 is still a better show in my opinion. The Baltimore crowd was no slouch either and I liked the setlist more than Hartford. Got to hear Habit and MFC for the first time.

OK, after last night's show in Charlottesville I majorly have to eat my words that Pearl Jam can't blow me away anymore.  Incredible setlist last night and just about the most loose and interesting show I have seen them play.  Also great energy from the band and crowd, and great to get to hang out with APR and his wife.

I copied this setlist from the Pearl Jam forum.  Check out, I think it speaks for itself.

Pearl Jam
University of Virginia
John Paul Jones Arena
Charlottesville, VA
Oct. 29, 2013
Set List

01. Pendulum-(from the new album "Lightning Bolt")
02. Release
(Ed sings "Oh dear Lou" in the last verse. Presumably referring to Lou Reed who passed away the previous Sunday)
03. In My Tree
04. Corduroy
05. Go
06. Why Go
07. Lightning Bolt-(from the new album "Lightning Bolt")
(during the guitar intro Ed says, "Good evening, we'll talk later. First I have a story to tell you." starts singing.)

08. Mind Your Manners-(from the new album "Lightning Bolt")
(Ed says, "I remember exactly when this next song was written. It was right on Virginia Beach thirteen years ago when we were last here. We were really struggling with some things at the time. I also noticed that this is the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy. It is nice to know that after all those tragedy's that we can find ourselves in this cozy building with you".)
09. I Am Mine
10. Swallowed Whole-(from the new album "Lightning Bolt")
11. Faithfull
12. Wishlist
13. Sirens-(from the new album "Lightning Bolt")
(after the song is over Ed says "thanks a lot" and starts strumming his 12 string acoustic and singing the "a-ah, oh oh" outro. The audience joins in and they sing a couple of rounds of the outro. Not unlike the "Black" outro sing along)
14. Jeremy
15. Grievance
16. Glorified G
17. The Fixer
18. Down
(early in the song Ed sees something he doesn't like happening. He asks if something is wrong and stops the band. The house lights come up and Ed says, "I think this is going to get sorted out quickly." After a very brief pause Ed says "That was just a speed bump." The band starts back into the song).

19. Rearviewmirror

Encore Break 1
(Ed jokes about how cool it would be if the 12 year old in the front had his first sip of wine at a Pearl Jam show. He says we will talk to our accountant and see if we can set up a fund in case the kid ends up at AA. He says "this next song we haven't played this tour because it is so fucking depressing." He apologizes to the parents for saying "fuck" so much in front of the kids. He thanks the audience for taking such good care of each other and that except for that one person it is great that it is safe for the kids to be up front.)

20. The End
21. Thumbing My Way
(this one is about getting out of college or not even getting into college or working a job that isn't the one you wanted...hopefully when you get out of college their will be jobs to have.)
22. Sleight Of Hand
(Ed starts to play "Future Days" then asks the band if they can change the order. Stone starts playing "Footsteps".
23. Footsteps
("That last song is such a beautiful piece of music. You can say that when you didn't write it. That music is so good and they let me write a song to it. Chris Cornell wrote a song to it and I think Andy Wood wrote a song to it. Let's thank Jeff and Stone for starting this all off. And can we thank Matt Cameron for playing in two fucking bands? Okay, let's turn the cameras off and get this over with. Ed goes down and pours something into a cup and says "That is for the Dad, you can do whatever you want with it." (this refers back to Ed wanting to give some wine to the 12 year old in the front). Ed then laughs and says, that "is Gatorade. No wait, that was the wine...No, it was the Gatorade...well that is what some people call it." Ed promises to talk about Mike later and introduces Boom.)
24. Future Days-(from the new album "Lightning Bolt")
25. Mother-(Pink Floyd/Waters)
26. Given To Fly
27. Whipping
("This one doesn't get played a lot. There are more surfers in Virginia than people realize")
28. Big Wave
29. Sad
30. Porch

Encore Break 2
(Ed mentions a sign he sees about Lou Reed. Jeff plays a line of "Walk On The Wild Side". Ed says, "Let's, on the count of three, maybe he can still hear us, say 'we love you Lou'." Ed counts off and the audience complies.)
31. Breath
32. State Of Love And Trust
33. Alive
(Ed brings the young man up on the stage. Ed notes they knew every word to every song. Ed says that is great that kids are so into the band because they will at least have an audience of 2 people into their 80's. Ed notes, "This is the Led Zeppelin arena" Mike starts playing Led Zeppelin riffs. Ed corrects himself, "oh no John Paul Jones arena)
34. Baba O'Riley-(Townshend)
35. Little Wing-(Hendrix)

I need a live album to get started on these guys.  Super late to the game, but no reason I shouldn't give them a listen.

My question to you all is this... What live album do I pick!?  There's so many.

For official releases: Live on Two Legs is lean and straightforward- full of greatest hits. Benaroya Hall is acoustic/mellow. I'd recommend starting with the Live At The Gorge box because it's great and long.

this site is great: http://www.pearljambootlegs.org/modules/jinzora2/ (http://www.pearljambootlegs.org/modules/jinzora2/)

to my knowledge, the band has never played a bad show so just find setlists with stuff you know you like!

There's also Ten Club Radio, which plays a constant stream of live tunes from different shows and the occasional whole show.

I was at that Charslottesville show, too, Whippy and it was amazing. So much energy from the stage and the crowd!

I honestly don't know if a live album is the best place to start w/ pearl jam. Thats just me. I would just grab Yield and No Code. Or maybe 10, because you probably know most of that album already, even if you don't realize it now.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm familiar with most of their first twoish albums already. I went ahead and grabbed one of the Chicago 06 shows from iTunes. It looked like a solid set.

@eric.  From what I've heard, I enjoy PJs live energy, so I figured the cheapest easiest way to get into what they're all about is to start with a juicy live recording. From there I'll branch off to the studios based off of what I like live.

I was going to get the Gorge box, but I didn't necessarily want to spend $30 on it.  Although, that's quite a deal.

Would have been fun to see you again, Charles.  Hopefully next time we're both at the same show we can make that work.

Your seats sound very similar to ours that night (we were Stone side).  I was very happy with them and with the sound in JPJ Arena.  Much better than the sound in Baltimore a couple nights earlier.

Some shows are so good that they sit with you for a long time after they end.  After one week, Pearl Jam's Baltimore and especially Charlottesville show are doing just that.    The chemistry between the band members and between the band and the audience is pretty outstanding most nights.  But, it was pretty special in Charlottesville..... great town, venue, energy, and songs the band picked to play.  The songs I've heard many times were extended and rocked more than usual, and the more rare songs sounded amazing.  And having quality pre show and post show time with my wife, Mr. Whippy, and his buddy made it all the more fun and memorable.

For those of you out West who will be seeing PJ soon, have fun.  Get ready for 3 plus hours of unpredictable sets.  And Eddie sounds really good these days whether he is screaming  during Go or Lukin or singing on Sleight of Hand or Footsteps.

I went to Charlotte a week ago.  Apart from being completely exhausted had a great time.  The guys seem to be on fire this tour and I LOVE all the new tunes in a live setting.  Pendulum makes for a really great opener.  Got to see the live debut of Getaway which was great.  And All Along the Watchtower played with the house lights up was a great closer. I  just wish I could afford to have seen more shows this tour.

EverythingChanges...interested to hear what you think after diving a little deeper into their discography.

So I could write a term paper or you nice folks could entertain me with your thoughts:

Best->Worst Least Amazing

1. Ten
2. Vs.
3. Yield
4. Vitalogy
5. Riot Act
6. No Code
7. Avocado
8. Binaural
9. Backspacer
10. LB

I LOVE the first 7, I have hot&cold relationships with bottom three.
Title: Re: Pearl Jam
Post by: MrWhippy on Dec 05, 2013, 04:03 PM
Off the top of my head, my rating would be:

1.  Vs.
2.  Vitalogy
3.  Ten
4.  Yield
5.  No Code
6.  Binaural
7.  Riot Act
8.  Avocado
9.  Backspacer
10.  Lightning Bolt

I'd say the top 3 are very set in stone for me, but the order of the others could shift around.

Something I've said to friends and some people on here before (APR) is how much Pearl Jam feels to me like the modern day equivalent of the Grateful Dead.

I know the music is completely different, but what feels similar is the feeling and love they incite from a crowd, how distinct and unique they make each show, and the willingness of their hardcore fans to travel to multiple shows (due to the previous point).

Maybe one other similarity they have to the Grateful Dead is how so much of their magic seems to be as a live band and something they really can't capture in a studio.  They were able to make some great albums when they were young and had something to prove (like Ten and Vs.) or when they were freaking out over how huge they had become (like Vitalogy and No Code).  To me, though, they don't seem to be able to make a great album post-2000.  All the records have some great songs, but none seem to reach the peak of the earlier stuff in terms of whole albums.

I've thought about rating all of their albums, and this time I really tried so 6306 could avoid his term paper.   This is as close as I'm gonna get to ranking their albums.

1.  No Code
2-4.  Vitalogy, Ten, Versus
5-7. Binaural, Riot Act, Avocado
8. Yield
9.  Backspacer
10. Lightening Bolt

If you pick 10-12 songs from Lost Dogs, there's a top 4 album as well.  Unlike most PJ fans, I don't love Yield.  But I do like Riot Act a lot!

I agree with Mr. Whippy that I don't think they can ever top their early work when considering an album from front to back.  But Unthought Known and Getaway are right up there at the top in my opinion as some of PJ's great, great songs.

This is an impossible task but here goes (i'll also list my 3 favorite tracks from each):
1. No Code (Present Tense, In My Tree, Red Mosquito)
2. Yield (Given to Fly, Do The Evolution, Smile)
3. Ten (Release, Black, Porch)
4. Vitalogy (Immortality, Not For You, Corduroy)
5. Riot Act (Save You, I am Mine, All or None)
6. Vs. (Animal, Indifference, Rearview Mirror)
6. Binaural (Nothing As it Seems, Of the Girl, Light Years)
7. Lightning Bolt (Getaway, Pendulum, Infallible)
8. S/T (Inside Job, Come Back, Severed Hand)
9. Backspacer (Unthought Known, Force of Nature, Got Some)

And yes, Lost Dogs is a ridiculously good album for B-sides.  My 3 favorites from LD are: Footsteps, Wash, Strangest Tribe)

God I love this band

I would have been about the same but with Yield  a little lower down.  However, i revisited that album last night and this morning and man is it good!  It might be moving up my list and is my latest musical obsession.

I need to start working on my Pearl Jam Vinyl collection too.

I am overjoyed, but also financially despondent at this news. A date within driving distance seems virtually guaranteed. And I've got a NO PASSING UP PEARL JAM IF THEY'RE IN DRIVING DISTANCE radius clause. I can't handle all these sweet concerts! But I also can't miss 'em.

I'm leaning towards Memphis.  Partly because it's a city I've never been to and would like to check out.  And also PJ usually gets better and the shows get longer later in the tour.

I like the odds calculation they added when you enter for tickets.  Thanks to the 10 Club for that.

i was very jealous of the Leeds show

01. Pendulum
02. Of The Girl
03. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town
04. Breakerfall
05. Hail Hail
06. Once
07. MInd Your Manners
(Ed jokingly starts to read his introduction/translation from Werchter and then says "Oh right" and tears it up and talks about being happy to be back.  He then introduces the next song.)
08. Lightning Bolt
09. Tremor Christ
10. Wishlist

(Ed spots a phone in the crowd that has a scrolling message on it.  Ed asks to see the phone.  It gets passed up to him.  He seems disappointed when he learns it is a message and not the lyrics.  He thanks the person for the phone and sets it down behind him.  A basketball gets on stage and gets passed back to Matt.  Ed says, "We are getting all kinds of gifts up here.  I like that t-shirt you got there buddy.  And that blouse would look pretty good on my wife.  In fact that blouse would look pretty good on Mike McCready."  Ed asks Mike if he ever got naked in Leeds.  Mike seems to think it was mostly just Germany where he got naked, maybe England somewhere...definitely Dublin.)

11. Who You Are
12. Ghost

(Ed says, "I fucked that song up.  I went into the last verse too early, so I am going to take a picture of me fucking up."  He has the camera that was handed to him earlier and starts to take a "selfie".  Jeff admits that he also fucked up so Ed tells him to get in the picture.  Once the photo is taken Ed says, "Thanks, my daughter is gonna love that one." and sets the phone down behind him again.)

13. Even Flow (Ed throws his mic into the audience.  a guy sings the "him away" bit)
14. Sirens
15. Push Me, Pull Me
16. Do The Evolution
17. Don't Gimme No Lip
(Ed pleads for "less war, maybe we can't get rid of all war but how about less war"  He goes on to say that we all want the freedom to live and dream but the sad fact is war is big business.  The next song is about someone on the wrong side of that business.)
18. Army Reserve
19. Present Tense
(The audience chants for Jeff to sing.  Ed suggests "Fernando" by ABBA because once he starts the audience will take over.  Ed then begins to dramatically sing "Fernando" while Jeff laughs and shakes his head no.  The audience does indeed take over and sing.)
20. Given To Fly
21. Setting Forth
22. Rearviewmirror

Encore Break 1

(Ed discusses how cancer effects everyone and what a difficult fight it is for the person with cancer and for their families.  He talks about his cousin John who recently succumb to cancer.  Ed's Chicago Bears #34 shirt is the same shirt he wore when John passed away.  Ed goes on to say that a young man named Jonathan lost "unfair" fight with cancer and wants to play the next song for him)

23. Man Of The Hour
24. All Or None
25. Fatal (a request by a woman attending her 30th show.  Ed hopes the audience won't  mind and promises the three minutes to play it won't be deducted from the overall time the band plays tonight)
26. The Real Me-(Townshend)
27. Porch

Encore Break 2

(Ed thanks long time crew member George Webb who "works for the band every single day.  If he wasn't around we would be fucked."  He also has Karen, band photographer, Ten Club, and Neil, Matt's drum tech, come onstage because they both had a birthday the day before.  The audience sings "Happy Birthday" to them.)

28. Smile
29. Leaving Here-(Holland, Holland, Dozier)
30. Black
31. Jeremy
32. State Of Love And Trust
33. Alive
34. Baba O'Riley-(Townshend)
35. All Along The Watchtower-(Dylan)  w/ Ray Cameron
36. Indifference

Well, I finally saw a pair of proper Pearl Jam shows, and they were incredible. The setlist at St Louis last night was great. Anyone else go to any of the shows yet?

I just saw them last night at ACL fest. Imagine turned into a sing along that came in right behind Hey June with Paul McCartney at Bonnaroo last year. For a festival set,  it was not bad at all.

The setlist is pretty killer for a festival set. It's nice that they're big enough that they can do and play whatever they want, even headlining a major festival.

They're doing the official bootlegs again.  They're usually available several weeks after the tour ends.

Insane!!  I was shocked reading the setlist.  I thought it was a prank for a minute.  My favorite album.  What a great surprise.  I just wish I was there for that.  Too bad they didn't bust out No Code in Memphis, which was the only PJ show for me this year.

Pretty sure this is going to just be a one off for the Global Citizens fest they have in Central Park, which I went to for Black Keys/Foo Fighters/ Neil Young and it was just a complete shitshow.  It would take a lot for me to want to go back, PJ would do it though.

Hope I'm wrong and they announce some more dates in the area

Very pumped about this seemingly imminent tour announcement. However, I recall this same buzz happening (right down to the "two night stop in Toronto") a few years ago, and that never materialized.

Having said that, there is major buzz that PJ will be doing a major show at Burl's Creek (site of WayHome festival) about an hour north of Toronto. The owner of Burl's Creek said at least two one-off shows have been confirmed for this summer, and PJ representatives were checking out the grounds within the last month.

PJ tour fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally getting announced tomorrow! Between this and a slew of festival announcements, my credit card is going to take a beating this month.

So far I think we've got Roo confirmed, a spot at JazzFest sometime between 4/22 and 4/24 and two nights in Toronto 5/13 and 5/14. Have also heard a spot at MSG is likely for late April. Anyone else hear anything?

Thankfully we don't have much time for speculating!

Every day I think the announcement is tomorrow.  But is it really tomorrow?  I hope so.  Their twitter says "soon."  Rumors on the PJ board include FLA, Lexington, Philly, Pitt, and NYC (May 1 and 2).  Interesting about Buffalo May 5.

Q107 (local classic rock station) just confirmed PJ is in Toronto on May 10th. I can't imagine they'll only do one show here, but who knows.

Also, Quebec City and Hamilton are rumored for the first week of May as well.

question for any 10 club members:

my buddy re-joined 10 club a couple months ago, and is in the lottery for tix in lexington. if he wins, how many tickets will he be able to purchase? if it's just 2, i'm sol because he'll take his wife (she's much prettier than me).

i've got him into many awesome jacket experiences with my roll call membership, it would be nice to ride his coattails into good seats in rupp.

and i haven't asked him directly because i don't want him to feel like i think he owes me something. i'm sure he'll take care of me if he can.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow! Ticketmaster has been very cruel to me for high-profile shows these last few weeks, so I'm hoping my luck turns! Trying for two shows (Toronto and Lexington) -- so I blocked off the hour at work and made sure I've got four computers and my phone at my disposal. LORD DON'T FAIL ME NOW!

I can't believe tickets are $71 and I am not sure if that includes fees

Can you not believe it because it's too expensive?  That price doesn't include fees.  I got some fan club tix and it came to about $80 or $86 each depending on which city.  That's about what Tool and Radiohead charge.  I think that's a very reasonable price for a band of that caliber especially since PJ routinely plays almost three hour shows.  I think PJ could charge more if they wanted.

Good luck Murph and oistheone.  It's not just you....TM is typically cruel.

Yeah, $71 is incredibly cheap for a band of PJ's caliber.  And like you said, 3hr, 30+ song shows are the norm for them.

Good luck everyone tomorrow! Lots of shows going on sale at the same time.  It's gonna be crazy.

Totally agree Apr. That price with fees is very reasonable for a band of that caliber.

I'm still smarting from Bruce tix going up again. He kept his tix under $100 for the longest time but charged the same for all tix. Enough people complained over the years and wanted tier pricing that now his arena shows have that. Problem is the top tier and majority of tix now are $150 face + fees.   His shows still run 3:15-3:30 and over 30 tunes, so compared to a Broadway play or similar it's worth it but I'm still bummed to be paying $175 a ticket when all is said and done.

PJ tix sound like a bargain to me.

What a wild fuckin' ride.

As expected, completely shut out for every show I attempted, right at noon. Fuck.

At 12:30, miraculously a pair of 1st row side-view seats to the Lexington show popped up. SWEET!

At 12:34, the Pearl Jam gods smiled down upon me as they secretly created a 2nd Toronto show. For once, I had complete pick of the litter. G-FUCKIN-A baby!!!

Now someone get me to April!!

been waiting for 2 1/2 hours.   little ticket thingy keeps scrolling, "finding the perfect verified option."  "your wait time is less than 1 minute."

I know I should just give up, but I can't.  why doesn't it just tell me "no tickets available" or something?

leaving work at 3:30, guess i'll wait another hour.

That is the opposite of cruel.  I've never heard of such luck.

I went on right at 10 and pulled a pair way in the upper level for MSG.   I was only going to buy them if the seats were really good. I know I contributed to clogging up the system but couldn't help wanting to see just how taxing TM would be and to see if I could get lucky.  The Ten Club lottery is fair and a time saver.

Good luck slappymore.... I hope your patience pays off!

Sorry Murph... prices will go down over the next few months especially in the smaller markets.

See Mr. White's thread in Other Music titled "Fixed Game."  Maybe something will be done in the future.  At least PJ and MMJ and some other bands are helping with fan club sales and by not overpricing their tickets to begin with.  NIN and Radiohead have gotten really creative in the past as far as requiring ID and credit card used to purchase the ticket upon entry.  But then people are upset because you can't transfer the tickets at all.

Yeah, I felt the same when Bruce canceled two days before the show but I'm sure he and PJ both had their reasons for not canceling sooner. Being a long time a Bruce fan, I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt on this and know it wasn't done this way to intentionally screw fans who had tix.

From what I've heard there was the possibility of an emergency session in NC prior to Bruce canceling and he was hoping that would repeal this law somehow, and the show could still go on. Perhaps PJ was hoping for something similar, and finally just couldn't wait any longer.

Ed talked about it a bit last night, mostly rehashed what was in the statement. When he started talking about it there was a mix of boos and cheers and he say "I'm not sure if you're booing us or mad at the bill".  It was hard for me to tell as well.  This area is fairly right leaning so I'm sure there were some boos for the band's opposition of HB2.

PJ Radio on Sirius is broadcasting from Barclays tomorrow night.  I would love to have good audio of the speech and their set, but I have a feeling it will be more interviews with people backstage or something.  I don't think I can wait for the HBO broadcast.   This is an event I'll have to look for a good periscope feed.  I really hope it's nothing serious with Uncle Neil.

Last night I watched the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Special.
It was really good. Some great speeches, especially Snoop Dogg on Tupac and Dave Letterman on Pearl Jam. And then I loved what Pearl Jam had to say when they took the stage. Just a class act all around. They seem like good people who have a real friendship with each other and have kept it together so long. I was happy to see them get the recognition and it was cool to see their families there with them too.

Also I thought Yes performed quite well. I'd go see them.
Journey was all together on stage too. It was a good show, better than expected. On HBO all week I'm sure.

Pearl Jam doing 2 shows in Seattle in August! These will be amazing shows for an amazing cause. Come to the great Northwest if you can.

Yes!!! I have always wanted to go to Seattle and have kind of been waiting to combine a visit there when Pearl Jam plays more than one night.  Wheels are in motion for my first ever trip to see the great Northwest.  Assuming I get tickets, it looks like it's going to be a four day vacation exploring by day and seeing my second favorite band of all time (my first favorite from '92 until somewhere around 2012 when MMJ took over the top spot) by night.

Already booked my flight and room. Just need tix.

Also, they kind of leaked out their other dates on Friday. They're playing Grizzly Stadium in Missoula and two shows each at Wrigley and Fenway.

Fenway that first week of Sept. The Phillies are away from 9/3-9/9 so that would work...

9/2 and 9/4 in Fenway and then a date later that week in Philly.

I doubt they add any. It would require a separate fan club lotto, which doesn't make much sense.

Seattle 8/8 and 8/10
Missoula 8/13 (This show will be good)
Chicago (Wrigley) 8/18 and 8/20
Boston (Fenway) 9/2 and 9/4

I agree with this thinking.  I read about a Philly rumor, but I guess it's not to be.  I also read about Outside Lands being possible but the may just be wishful thinking. I doubt they would play a show on August 11 or 12 with shows already set for the 10th and 13th.

they've gotten shit in the past for adding shows since people travel so far to see them.

Missoula is a college town which is starved for entertainment. There football team's stadium, where the show will be, is unbelievably awesome for an FCS school. MMJ played in Missoula on the Waterfall tour in 2015, that show sold out faster than any show on that tour did.

I have never seen PJ and have always been intrigued. Registered for the TM certified fans thing for seattle.  I read all the stuff about on Feb 15th you'll be notified if you've been selected for a code to try to get tix. Is this going to be a crazy hard ticket because it's PJ and in Seattle? Someone enlighten me as to my chances of getting tickets.

I've done the same for Chicago, and have never seen Pearl Jam. I'm hoping this Ticketbastard "certified human" crap comes through, but expect tickets to be rare and pricey. Good luck, Walter!

I think it'll be difficult through TM. The 10C email said they were very confident that most if not all members would get their choices and that they secured more tickets than ever before. Good for members like me but not the general public. Demand is high because they didn't play any shows last year and it looks like these are it for this year.

I'll be going to Seattle solo most likely so my extras will probably be up for grabs and I usually offer them here.

I don't know about how hard tix will be to get but I can say the TM verified fan thing sucks. Especially for any tough to get ticket. I'd rather take my chances with their damn 15 minute wait thing than be told I didn't even have a chance to try for tix.

I've been going to Springsteen shows for 40 years but got denied all three times for even the opportunity to purchase tix to his Broadway stand. The first two it was sorry, due to high demand, and the third I was put on standby. Eventually got a code late in the day for the 3rd sale but that ended up being a futile exercise as well.

It just seems like a big BS smokescreen to me as a way for TM to say they're doing something to get the tix away from scalpers and into fans hands. A quick look on Stubhub shows tix will always end up being scalped.

If I have friends in 10C can they try for me? Are the tickets transferable? And is it too late for a 10C member to request?

10C says you can get two tix per show only one of which is transferable. They are not going to be physical tix so you have to use your smart phone to get in. The 10c member has to keep one of them.

I don't know much about verified fan.  I tried it once and got terrible seats so I didn't buy them and then got way better seats on the regular on sale days afterwards.  Depending on my luck with Ten Club tickets, I could have a single for 8/10.  I won't know until way after the regular TM sale, so I'd recommend going for tickets in their pre and regular sales if you're committed to going.  I'll check in with you later on if that ticket is unspoken for.  Like Cameron, I'm a fan of putting extras here...... it has worked great for several MMJ and JJ shows.

After the Ten Club sale there is a verified fan sale and then the regular TM sale.  Unlike the way MMJ offers their fan club membership and immediate fan club ticket access, Pearl Jam will not let you get fan club tickets for this tour if you join the Ten Club now.  You would have had to been a member prior to Jan 23 (the date of the tour announcement) to be eligible.  It's not too late for a fan club member to request...... it's actually still too early.  PJ won't even take requests until Feb 7.

Through a friend got tickets to the Montana show, section 126 2nd row.  Saw them first in 1991 opening for Nirvana & the Chili Peppers, then in 1995 at Golden Gate Park.  Seven songs in, Eddie Vedder got sick and left the stage.  Neil Young came out and played for another two hours with the rest of the band.  It was pretty cool.

I'll bump this when it gets closer, but for those coming to Seattle for PJ, a good friend of mine (and fellow MMJ fan) is brewer and part owner of an amazing brewery that is one mile south of Safeco field, great place to pregame. Seapine Brewing

I'm into Seapine for pregame too.  Please bump the recommendation as the date gets closer.  The way PJ announced these Home shows as a headliner implies that there will be opener(s).  The Away shows just said PJ if I remember correctly.

I listened to the new song a few times.  I'm sure they'll play it this spring and summer.

Also, just found out SubPop is having their 30th anniversary festival on Saturday 8/11 at Alki Beach in West Seattle. And it's feee! The bands have not been announced yet but a peek at their 20th anniversary party has me hopeful for some killer bands. For their 20th they had (among many others) mudhoney, iron and wine, fleet foxes, foals, flight of the concords. We actually rented a house about a block away so we can just walk there. A friend of mine that knows someone who is organizing the event says it's Saturday and Sunday but SubPop only mentions Saturday in their announcement.

Seattle 1 was terrific.  Seattle 2 was one of my favorite shows ever.  Yes Shug those dudes aren't afraid to play long shows as that one started at about 8:30 and ended at midnight.  And they were more energized and having more fun during the late part of the shows especially with their Soundgarden and Mudhoney pals.  Eddie still sounds amazing and the band played sets to please old fans and newcomers, which isn't easy to do given their quantity of songs and covers.

Better late than never for sure YYac..... I predict this will not be your last PJ show.  Looking forward to hearing your feedback or any reports after Wrigley shows.

I hope to see some MMJ peeps in Boston.

yea I heard him on Rogan's pod. Those guys were higher than Jesus on a spaceship. I turn 40 in February and had been holding onto that 40th Bday card for what I hoped would be OBH, but I may just have to go on Sturgill and Tyler Childers tour (love Tyler too).

PJ will be doing something in 2020.  I don't have any inside info, but no way they take another year off from touring the US.  (I don't count 2018 as a US tour).

That's a great 40th idea! I would love nothing more than seeing PJ in Europe or South America. 2020 may not be the year though.

Lockn moved to mid June 2020 instead of late August as usual so as not to compete with another festival.  I bet it's Phish..... similar fan base and Phish's last one had to be called off.

Yes, more dates in the US for the fall.  The announcement said this is the first leg of the US tour so likely Chicago, Philly, Boston, and a bunch of other places including another one or two in the NYC area.  Hopefully it's not baseball stadiums, but I'll take what I can get.

No luck with the sale today for Baltimore.  Murph..... It was worse than a hoot.  I can't remember a bigger clusterf and loooong delays to get in off the queue, etc.  I never made it off the queue after another round of protection from bots where I had to click on an image got me optimistic. Ten Club did hook me up for some shows so I can't complain.

Oh sure, lots of fans will cherish every second given the quarantine and the fact that it's been 7 years. And that's cool, to each his/her own. I just don't think it's a recipe for success for a late-career record from a rock band. It's longer than their first 2 classic albums, from which they cut extremely strong material. It would be one thing if they were still churning out killer songs with engaging instrumental sections, but unfortunately that's not the case. They're still striking gold here and there, but I would've enjoyed Gigaton a lot more if it was 15-20 minutes shorter.

At first listen I liked it but it didn't grab me fully.  I'm going to listen more... but I kind of agree with you, I think they could have put in a couple shorter more high tempo rockers in there instead of some of the songs on the 2nd half....

i've listened to it a few times and it does feel like 2-3 songs could have been better as a B-side (I'm looking at you River Cross and Buckle Up). But otherwise I've been enjoying it, Quick Escape is really good imo and will be a great addition to the live arsenal. Seven O'Clock & Never Destination are also songs I like.

I liked that they said this on their website.  They are trying....

"To continue to protect fans' access to fairly priced tickets, Pearl Jam has decided to make tickets non-transferable where permitted, and by selling approximately 10% of tickets through PJ Premium at the market rate to offset increased costs. Tickets on this tour will continue to be non-transferable in all states except Illinois where it is prohibited by law. We apologize in advance to Illinois fans who may be subject to increased ticket prices on the secondary market.

Pearl Jam will use all-in pricing across this tour for the first time. This means the ticket price you see listed is the full out-of-pocket price inclusive of fees so there are no surprises at check out.

For more information about the policy issues in ticketing, visit https://fairticketing.com.

We can't wait to see you out there! "

thanks, very tough indeed.  i carted fan2fan tickets and went through the purchasing process at least a half dozen times only to get the dreaded "oops, something went wrong" message.  never could win the race to the finish.

it blows my mind that they're selling premiums for close to $1000 a pop....and people are paying it.

we're in louisville, so a fairly easy 2 hour drive. and making the rescheduled date, whenever that may be, won't be a problem......as long as it isn't during OBH.

but i already had this week scheduled off before the show was announced, didn't need to ask for extra time off, the weather was perfect for an outdoor show, got an early start so we could take a stab at the merch line, hadn't told my buddy about the upgrade, he still thought we were on the lawn, was going to be quite the surprise for him.

I saw Pearl Jam for the first time last night in Fort Worth and Eddie seemed genuinely upset for having to cancel the Indy show. He apologized on several occasions throughout the show last night. They almost decided to cancel last night's show because he was still recovering from the flu and Matt was out with Covid and had a replacement drummer.

Back to back Austin shows - only one song repeated, which was Alive.  Two great nights that had something for everyone - rare songs, hits, old stuff, new stuff.  McCready looks like he is having constant fun playing.  They still sound great, with Eddie's voice staying excellent and strong.  Eddie said the album is done and will come out next year.  Bring on the multi night runs next year without repeats a la MMJ!

Pearl Jam Unveil Upcoming Album At Daytime L.A. Playback

Project was produced by Andrew Watt, who previously helmed Eddie Vedder's solo LP 'Earthling'

Pearl Jam debuted
their upcoming 12th studio album today (Jan. 31) in front of a crowd of
invited guests at Los Angeles' famed Troubadour club, with band members
Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready and Jeff Ament as well as producer Andrew
Watt on hand to introduce the project.

Specific details such as song titles and lyrics are being kept under
wraps for now, but SPIN can confidently report that the album offers a
little bit of everything for the longtime Pearl Jam fan. "No hyperbole —
I think this is our best work," enthused Vedder, who later poured
tequila shots for the assembled audience. "I couldn't be prouder of us
as a band," added Ament, who briefly got emotional while describing the
experience of making the album.

The LP features several intense rockers which showcase the
ever-powerful drumming of Matt Cameron and the panache of guitarist Mike
McCready, whose solos are more prominent here than on 2020's Gigaton. One has a chorus particularly tailor-made for chanting and fist-pumping.

A couple songs nod to the chiming, acoustic-flavored sound of the
late Tom Petty, while another has the loping, off-kilter feel of past
Pearl Jam tunes such as "Parachutes" and "All Those Yesterdays."
Thematically, Vedder is writing about human connection (or lack
thereof), aging, parenting and the state of the world. "We're still
looking for ways to communicate," he said.

Perhaps the song with most "classic" Pearl Jam feel was actually
conceptualized while Vedder and Watt were working on something else, but
that story will have to wait for now.

Vedder made his solo album Earthling at lifelong Pearl Jam
fan Watt's Beverly Hills home studio in 2021, and the idea to bring
Pearl Jam there to make their own album was hatched during that time
(during the first session, band members didn't even bring instruments
with them to Los Angeles from Seattle). He added that parts of the
upcoming record were tracked at Rick Rubin's Shangri-La studio after
Watt's was rendered unusable due to flooding. "That space had a
vibration to it," Vedder said of Shangri-La. "I used every bit I could
get."

The Troubadour setting for the playback was apropos, as Vedder
recalled Pearl Jam playing there in October 1991 just as their Epic
debut album Ten was beginning to explode. He said the band was
horrified to find the interior of the club plastered with Pearl Jam
promotional material, which they then ripped down in front of the record
label staffers who'd just set them up. "I want to apologize to them" he
said. "Thanks for sticking with us."

Pearl Jam is expected to announce their 2024 touring plans in the
near future, having already confirmed a handful of shows in the U.S. and Europe.

Not being able to prioritize shows led to some feast and famine results. I'll be looking for Wrigley 2 tix.

Got both Boston shows.  Did not get Baltimore and either Philly.  Luckily my buddy got Baltimore, and I'll try the TM sale if I get a verified fan code.  I like but don't love Dark Matter.  I'm really looking forward to the album and the tours.
