Nothing more polar opposite than Dondante & Phone. And yet, they're 2 of the big 3.

The Music / Re: NEW ALBUM IS IN MASTERING ...

Quote from: iLikeBeer on Oct 08, 2024, 04:29 PMSo Lonn, are you one of those Trump supporters wondering how Jim would feel about you?  IMO, if you are, why do you care how Jim would feel about you?  Honestly, I'm sure he would be disappointed to say the least which you probably know and is why you are questioning it to begin with!  I guess if you are just fans of the music and are not really getting into trying to decipher the true meaning of Jim's or the band's lyrics I can see how you could be a fan of both the band and Trump.  But if you truly dive into the lyrics and the message that Jim tries to convey about hope for this world, it pretty much is 100% at odds with the message of division, hate and bigotry that Trump spreads to all of his believers.  You don't like that bands like MMJ and musicians like Jim James express their political views, maybe stick with those 'musicians' that align more with the values of the MAGA cult like Kid Rock and Ted Nugent.

To be honest, the more I think about it, the more it makes me understand why the last show I saw in Cleveland over the weekend reminded me more of a Trump rally than an MMJ sho which was really disappointing but would explain the whole frat party vibe from many of the people in attendance.  People seemed to be more worried about how drunk they could get while constantly talking over the band than actually paying attention to the music?!?!?  It was not even close to the same vibe I got from a half filled show at the Masonic Temple in Detroit earlier in the summer where the numbers may have been small but everyone was pulling in the same direction.  And I feel like the band could feel the energy from that small crowd in Detroit more than the frat party scene in Cleveland.

Sorry, don't like to get political but when it comes to supporters of a person like Trump who is in it only for themselves, I lose all respect.  My 21 year old daughter dated a MAGA turd for nearly 2 years (what she saw in that ass I will never know). But what finally lifted the veil that was blinding her from seeing the true loser he is was when he called her 'Fucked in the head' because she wouldn't succumb to the MAGA cult.  She's fucked in the head???  Losers like him need to look in the mirror!!!   Silver lining is at least this was the straw that finally broke her to break up with his sorry Trumpy ass!!!  This was all from a supposed 'God fearing christian'.  The hypocrisy that comes out of the MAGA cult is more than I can take...

You missed my point entirely by going into your liberal defensive stance.
Sorry, I think it's also at odds with what Kamala was about, backed by the Cheneys and the war machine.
I didn't vote for anyone.
I didn't vote.
America deserves better than these 2 candidates, but its also embarrassing to expect that I'd feel bad or feel scared about the approval of a rock star 😄 🤣
You shouldn't be living your life like that either.

Whole point is....who gives a fuck what people believe, it's supposed to be about the music, not if you're fine with biological males thinking they have a divine right to pummel biological women in sports.

The fact you tried to label or put me in a box the second I called bullshit to your own cult is quite incredible and actually elected Donald Trump....it wasn't even the economy, it was the smug bullshit from folks with that kind of faux authority and correction obsessed demeanor.
Go work in HR, brother 😄

Yeah that was a great and super insightful interview, but I am also curious about the reasoning for moving OBH.
I heard at one point that HRRM is doing a lot of room renovations so that's why they can't host festivals for a bit, I'm guessing it's gotta be a sellout of the resort for the venue and all the bands and promoters to make their money.

I've uploaded this to Archive. It's a pretty sweet set. Steam Engine opener > Old Sept Blues. The intro on Masterplan is badass too.

The footage was on vimeo. I've found random Jacket stuff there in past and saw this recently. Someone apparently put it up last year but there wasn't any views yet. I was pretty geeked to come across. It was broken up into three different videos actually and I combined them into one. There's a small gap in IWSYS.

I uploaded to youtube their show from the 2005 Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. It's pro shot video and pretty damn awesome. It's almost the entire set but is missing the first two songs, I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man, Laylow and also the last song Mahgeetah. Still though it's an hour of unearthed nearly 20 year old footage of the band. Check it out!

Interesting interview.  I thought the talk about having to move OBH because "there were a bunch of festivals that couldn't happen on the site that we normally do OBH" was interesting.  I wonder what's going down at Hard Rock RM?  There are no festivals planned there next year.

I'm pretty pumped to see Devon and Karina on the bill, and can't beat Preservation Hall getting back in on the action. Got a few new bands to check out too.

They didn't have any guests join them on stage at this year's OBH, but I hope that changes for next year!
If Jim and Devon team up for another Only Memories Remain like they did in Chicago last year, I'll be so happy; it was beautiful to witness and I appreciate the song so much more now. Tom and Karina on another Run Thru collab would also be fantastic to see live.

April 2025 can't get here fast enough!
