So I grabbed this movie on Saturday thinking it was a comedy, sort of along the lines of Kung Pow.  I liked Kung Pow overall but I understand why it falls flat for a lot of people.  But that's neither here nor there.

If you think back on times when kung fu movies would be on all afternoon on Saturdays and your thoughts are fond, you'll love this movie.  It was unreal.  I loved that I didn't know much about it and that it was not at all what I expected.  It's not really a comedy but it's not your traditional martial arts sort of movie either.  There's a bit of a supernatural element to it, but it's done in a way that is sort of believable.  I just thought it was brilliant.  Any thoughts?

I love old school kung-foo...sounds right up my alley. I prefer the "less cheesey" kung foo movies, though.

I really don't think it was cheesy though Hork.  It almost poked at it, but never really went full on cheese.  There was a great story to it and the fight scenes were really exciting.  I think you should try it out.  It might not be for you, but it's definitely worth a shot.

Very cool and funny movie. It's like a martial arts film by Looney Tunes directed by QuentinTarantino. Great action sequences and fabulous choregraphed fight scenes. I loved it so much I bought the DVD. Well worth checking out.!

If you like Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle, I think you'll also like his crazy film from a few years back: Shaolin Soccer.

I was just reading about that...  can you give me a little background?  I saw in the review that Kung Fu Hustle doesn't even compare!

I watched Kung Fu Hustle again last night and I'd be interested in seeing another one of this guy's films.  Thanks for the tip.

Jackie Chan's Drunken Master films and Police Story 3 ( with Maggie Cheung ) are great too. Stephen Chow is often compared to a young Jackie Chan.

Is it strange that the first time I ever heard about Jackie Chan was during the MTV Movie Awards when Quinten Tarantino introduced him for the lifetime achievement award?

I love Jackie Chan, but my number one hero is really Bruce Lee.  It's cliche, I know.  He is just one of the most amazing stars ever.  And the story of his life and the curse that followed his family...  it's all very strange and intriguing.

As Asian stars go, my all-time favourite is Japanese actor/director Beat Takeshi Kitano - next is Toshiro Mifune. Takeshi is an big influence on Tarrantino. Here's Kitano's bio and film reviews from All Movie Guide: http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=2:69645~C.
