Im normally not so crass, I just dont care for nearly anything they do. The worst thing that can happen to a trend setter, regardless of their medium, is to realize how cool they are. Pitchfork realized how cool they were quite some time ago.

pretty sure you cant copyright a name unless it goes along with some kind of likeness. could be wrong though. Also the fact that she is using it for a book title and not a record title is something that may be a factor...

Regardless...this is a straight up rip off even if it's not a legal issue. We're all partial to the brilliance and creativity of MMJ, but come on. While she's at it, she should change her name to Amanda Mandy.  ;)

Looking back that was a knee jerk reaction post and probably a little harsh lol. Compared to a lot of the other sites available it isnt horrible. So long as you can recognize the pretentiousness and bias its still a decent resource for reviews and such. I find myself picking up magazines I dont generally like all the time, it just depends on the subject. I'd read any magazine if it featured MMJ or something else I like.

Pitchfork introduced me to the Jacket back in 2003.  I randomly read the review of It Still Moves and have been obsessed ever since.  So in that regard, I can't hate the site.  It's also introduced me to Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, The Moondoggies (just got the new album from iTunes and its awesome!) and other really good stuff.  That said, Pitchfork's writers, especially the dude who reviewed Evil Urges are haughty and elitist.  I emailed the guy (Eric Harvey maybe) after I read his Evil Urges review and said some pretty scathing things.  His "yacht pop" line really put me over the top, and I'm usually pretty easy going.  Sorry to hijack the thread with this ramble.

I went back and read the Pitchfork review of Evil Urges...anyone else find it incredibly hypocritical that they say the album is a departure from their previous work but also accuse them of "settling into a niche". So what are they doing, departing or settling? Maybe they're doing both simultaneously, which would make them the most innovative band ever.

Bingo. Everybody steals from everybody.  It's the name of the game.  However, when it's this blatant, I could see getting upset or suing over it.
