Talking to a Charlestonian right here!  :)

Depends on 2 things: when are you coming and on what kind of budget?

Okay, here we go...

For bars/music venues, there's The Windjammer, Cumberland's, and The Villiage Tavern. There's some great gigs coming up: VHS or Beta Sept. 26 @ Villiage Tavern, Gregg Allman @ Charleston Music Hall Oct. 12, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals same venue Oct. 13. Best pizza place in town is The Mellow Mushroom. For seafood, head on over to Shem Creek for freshly caught shrimp, fish, scallops and other seafood. You'll never eat yr average Red Lobster dreck again. Go to the Market or King Street for some great shopping. If you want to go to the beach (which you will), go to either Isle of Palms or Folly Beach. Kiawah Island is mostly for those with a large budget. Patriot's Point is kinda overrated, but it's kinda neat taking a tour of the aircraft carrier. And also be sure to see some of the plantations (there are at least ten huge ones).

You can spend weeks walking though downtown and taking tours, so try to pick out only certain houses. Carriage tours are kinda pricey, but if you're really interested, go ahead. If you haven't seen it before, the Aquarium/Imax/Fort Sumter trio really is worth the trip. The Old Exchange Building and White Point Gardens are also worth stopping by. Some ghost tours are far better than others, so pick yours carefully.

Most all downtown parking is in parking garages. Be warned that it takes at least 20 minutes to get accross town, due to slow carriages and possibly the nation's worst street layout.

That about covers it. Have fun!  :D

Eat at A.W. Shuck's.  It's AWESOME seafood.

The Big Come Up

As someone who lives in Columbia, SC, and often takes visiting friends and family down to Charleston, I would advise you don't overbook yourself and just try to enjoy the city and its vibe. Take a walk around, the whole city is beautiful, go shopping, and visit the important sites (which are most likely haunted....). Also, try Bubba Gumps...a must for Forrest lovers everywhere.

Ha, thanks for all the tips friends.  Sounds like some good advice.

Nice city, shame I only spent an afternoon (and one incredible rock show) there.
