You should do an experiment and see what happens if you don't cut it all summer.

I'm pretty sure my uppity neighbors wouldn't be too thrilled about that.

My father-in-law is actually trying to see why my mower won't crank at this very moment. Although, I may just pay my brother to come mow it again this summer like I did last year.  :)

go electric.  the weight difference alone is worth the bucks.  plus, in Louisville, they practically GIVE you one for free with a program that lets you turn in your gas mower and you get a voucher towards the price of a new electric mower.   i have one and love it.

I have no idea when the lawn-mower will come out in Toronto. It's been a miserable spring so far and the ground is really wet. I'd say in a few weeks the mower will get dusted off. Spring doesn't last too long in Southern Ontario. The summer comes on fast and is brutally hot at times.

lol I'm reading this thread and my dad just happens to ask me to cut the grass.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Indeed. I saw this thread the day after I was first asked to mow the lawn this year.

I am getting some high places in the back but I think I will still wait awhile until it gets a little longer. Plan on starting with a push, and then when I get tired of that after several weeks will put the mower deck on my lawn tractor and ride the rest of the summer when it is a lot hotter.

With the amount of rain we've had, and the few nice dry days, I'm developing the first at home jungle kit in my backyard. It's low shin high right now and with a fiorecast for rain rain and more rain, I hope to have it knee high real soon.

Also, I blew up my mower the last mow of 2007. No I mean I BLEW UP MY MOWER. The damn thing exploded on me. Shrapnel from the engine shot out everywhere, loud explosion sound, me ducking for cover at the sound of said explosion going off in front of me.  Good times....

yep.  cutting my lawn first for the first time this season as soon as the sun wakes up.

I took a drive around cave hill yesterday to see what was in bloom.  I'm making an effort to learn the names and characteristics of local plant life.  It's cool to notice what trees and plants are the first of the season to flower.  At least it is for me, I'm into this shit.

I love mowing, I really do, but I hate it's evil cousin: edging.

My weed-whacker never starts, and when it finally does, it cuts off midway through.  It vibrates my hands in a wierd way and leaves them feeling awful after I'm done.

Maybe I just need a new weed whacker.

yeah, weedwhackers suck.  I'm actually sitting here collecting myself before I go back out and edge the yard.  I used to work for the grounds crew at my university.  weed whacking was fun when we had to do the ditches on the golf course for various reasons but edging always sucks.

I enjoy yard work too.  This afternoon will be the third time this season I've had to mow it.  The first two probably wasn't necessary but I put the blade down low to get rid of some of the thatch.  Today will be the first "standard" mow.

In the back yard I have a fig tree,  satsuma tree, plum tree, peach tree, and some scuppernong vines.  I've only been in the house one year and the only fruit I got last year were scuppernongs.  Right now the peach tree has over 150 silver dollar sized peaches but I've heard that birds and worms will get alot of them.

Here's to a prosperous growing season.

When you have three kids sometimes mowing the lawn is a nice way to get out of the house and soak in some sunshine.  (Although it does get old by September)

Let's just say there is more than one kind of grass involved.

(Subtle, huh?  I meant Fescue and Blue Grass.  What did you think I meant?)

I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Couldn't have said it myself brother.
