For myself, I'm delighted too. I think this is good news for America and the rest of the world. Obama's acceptance speech was very moving. I listened to it on the way to work this morning and sat in the car park till it had finished. A truly momentous time!

However I do feel for the people on the losing side. I'm sure they love the USA as much as anyone else. I disagree with them on most things but their convictions are just as heart-felt and I respect their passion. I'm thinking in particular of MMJfanatic who obviously feels very strongly about many issues. He must be feeling very low today and I hope those celebrating feel able to be gracious to him and others in his position.

Having said that: Woo hoo!!!

This is historic and glorious.
Obama has put Indiana and Virginia in the Dems column for the first time since LBJ in '64.He practically swept the swing states and has an electoral landslide.America didn't just ask for change we demanded it with a loud shout.

Wow... Isn't it a little unfair to expect Obama to put an end to fear, greed, and lies?

QuoteMcCain is, but the crowd there is a bit classles.

McCain was very classy in that speech...If the crowd there didnt have such decided party lines and listened to what he said, they shoud have cheered

That crowd is exactly what is wrong with America.

The joy you see from that crowd in the Windy City is nowhere near the 'joy' I remember from the Republicans in '04. They were more worried about talking about how they knew W would win over Martini's then truly excited about the PRESIDENT!!!

Couple of points on this.

McCain was extraordinarily eloquent in his concession speech, much of which was off the cuff and not on his monitor.  Such class and eloquence may have paid off for him had he used it earlier or even incorporated his fighting energy from the night before during his final speeches.

As for the attending audience, while acting a bit less appropriate than we would all like, we should temper our thoughts on how classless they were.  The Kerry concession speech crowd was not a bunch of winners also.  That being said, at least they didn't but out U S A...U S A chants.  Those should be banned.

As the final Senate seats are decided, January will bring a huge change to this country.  As some experts argue that checks and balances, split power, and gridlock are what make our system work, I will gladly take our chances with new and aggressive legislation domestically and emphasizing multinational diplomacy abroad.   :)

Congratulations to Barack Obama and all the lazy ass voters who got off their asses and voted before bitching about America!

Seriously though, congrats to the big O.   [smiley=beer.gif]  Here's hoping for some changes for the better soon.   I think it's still going to take a group effort on all of our parts to rise up to the next level.  Let's be a better country.  Well, let's be a better world.  Hell, let's be a better universe.  I'm lookin' at you Mars!  Stop with all the evil lazer eyes shit.

just starting to wake up and come out of the daze--what a great night---i think the victory last night was not just for blacks or liberals or democrats--it was for anyone who's ever felt alone, awkward and needed to overcome something. Both speeches were great---i wonder deep down if mccain (being that old) isn't a little relieved at not winning. Being president is kind of awesome and all, but that's hell of a lot of work. people were on the streets here all night---everyone crossing racial lines and dancing on cars---insane.

yeah, aMD--let us know what your students are saying today--i'm curious!!

QuoteOHHHHHHHHH THIS FEELIN IT IS WONDERFUL

Wow, it is. I never really felt pride in my country until a few hours ago, but I sure as hell do now. After that speech, how could anyone not love this guy? I say we abolish term limts and let Obama keep the job for as long as he can. I feel so good about having him as the face and voice of our country and, while I want to be cynical about all the promises he's making, he makes that so hard to do. I think I'm just going to sit back and enjoy this feeling a while longer. Hope is awesome.  8-)

That acceptance speech was incredibly moving- I can't believe that in my lifetime I am able to witness such a powerful and inspirational public figure. and he is my... excuse me OUR PRESIDENT! It just fills me up every time I think about it.
Oh I'll never say I knew you, but my heart can't wait to meet you on the other side

Yeah, I saw Oprah in the crowd too, she looked SO proud  ;D

I like McCain, and he did a wonderful job with his speech. I wasn't worried about his home crowd booing...the losing team is always like that, regardless of the party.

I voted for Obama though, and he was superb with his speech. He offers exactly what this country needs right NOW...unification and hope. Is he what we need for the FUTURE? Nobody really KNOWS for sure, but a whole lot of us get the feeling that he is.

I REALLY liked how in his speech, he admitted that change would take time, and that his early presidency might include " setbacks and false starts"...he's being honest. He's inheriting a broken country, but I really believe that he will be an amazing leader, and with time, will lead the rebuilding of (both domestically and internationally) the strength of, and the faith in America.

Strange, uncertain, exciting times  :)
