QuoteI'm so happy Dallas got killed.  There is no one in the NFL I hate more than Jerry Jones.  Even though I would've like to see TB in the playoffs instead of Philly.

I know a lot of people are all over Farve and its understandable but at the same time that is a move that you make before the season.  Nobody was talking about Pennington in a good way after last year.  Farve gave the Jets identity and a chance to win.  He didn't play well in the last month or so and he is old and probably should retire but a lot of Jets fans were excited about this move when the season started.  Pennington just had something to prove with Miami, I don't know if he would've played that well with the Jets this year.  Nobody knows that.  I think it is a joke that Farve made the Probowl though.

I've gotta say as a die hard Jets fan and secondary Bears fan, I must disagree.  I have been a Favre basher in his early years as a result of being a Bears fan.  However, his last 4 years have shown an increasing inability to reconcile what his eyes tell him on the field with his rapidly decreasing ability to deliver the ball where his mind tells him on time.  I was flat against the trade from the beginning and predicted that the Jets would succeed somewhat in comaparison to last year DESPITE FAVRE!

Whereas many Favre backers pointed to his numbers last year, many game watchers will tell you that at least 8-10 of his balls were flat dropped by defenders who he threw it to and would have put him right back up there among the INT leaders.

As for Chad Pennington, those that watched him regularly knew his strengths and weaknesses.  He still has the highest completion percentage of any NFL qb ever I believe with X number of attempts.  His glaring weakness was his ability to bring a team back late in a game where the ball had to be moved quickly and yes that is directly correlated to his arm strength.

But put him on a team with a good running attack (TJ, LWashington, Faneca, Woody, Mangold) and a somewhat improved defensed (Jenkins in particular) and they too have a better record by at least 2 games with Pennington.

Thanks AMD and Bold

I needed to get this off my chest and get ^*&&(&ng Favre outta town as soon as possible.  Leon Hess is turning in his grave and if Favre starts ^&&*ing crying again like he almost did yesterday and how he has 9x before at his multiple retirement press conferences, I will personally show up with a forged press pass and punch him in the ovaries and kick him in his vajajay!!! >:(

I'm no Jets fan, far from it but a lot of my friends are Jets fans and I'm just going on what they said before the season.  Most of them loved this deal.  NOBODY had a good thing to say about Pennington.  Matter of fact there is no guarantee he would even have been the starting QB for the Jets.  Clemens had a good chance as anyone to be the starter.

Its easy to say after the fact that Pennington would have been a better choice but as an organization you have a chance to bring in a HOF'er and a guy who is going to put people in the seats.  Everyone knew that Farve was in decline but he still got them to the point in the season where they were a game ahead of the Pats and Miami after beating the Pats.  At that point nobody was saying it was a bad choice.  That is my only point.  Anyone can play bad down the stretch, just as Dallas fans.

If they were looking for a side show, they got it. I was under the impression they wanted to go to the playoffs.  And sure anyone can choke down the stretch, but when it happens to someone else they get called out for it.  Not Favre though, I'm calling him out and so is Stephen A. Smith but we are way outnumbered.  Not to mention that Favre is a potential HOF'er and completely disrupted the season of two organizations because he wanted to come back.  The argument of "it could happen to anyone" just doesn't apply at that point.  I've always thought that the new york media was way too hard on Pennington and that sports media was and is way too easy on Favre. If you and your friends can't see that, that's on you (and the media, I suppose). You asked who would have seen this coming and so far you've heard from two people who did see this coming including a Jets fan.  Maybe your friends aren't the most knowledgeable fans in the world.

wondering what's going to happen w/romeo crenell today---i heard they are going to keep him on board but not as head coach.

i would like to see a whole browns shakeup---they should get rid of everyone who doesn't want to play for us (braylon, etc) i'd rather lose w/winners than win w/losers! what a season.

but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

Well, another dissapointing Raiders season. Al Davis didn't make the trip to Tampa because of poor health...I'm not going to say it, 'cause it might come true, and I'd feel like a jerk...but we need an internal identity change, we need a major fucking overhaul, and there's only one way that's going to happen.

Crennel is gone as of now.
As for keeping him on, I heard that too.  Why would one take a demotion?  What, maybe back to defensive coordinator?  Not sure you can keep someone and hope to turn the page.

As for Bold, I understand that many Jets fans reactions were positive.  However, there were many other fans, myself included, that couldn't believe we went for Favre and in my opinion, set our team back again.

Besides what I mentioned above with Pennington having trouble moving the ball quickly late in games and allowing D's to cheat short, Chad kind of lost the locker room more for his fragility than anything else.  That I understood  because it was frustrating watching him constantly being hurt.  Having said that, a fully protected Pennington with a running game clearly was better than Favre this year.  Hindsight for some, common sense to others.

I grew up in LA from 78-88, a wonderful time in LA sports.  I loved Al Davis then (or at least Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen, Todd Christensen and Howie Long), but now I sympathize with you and from a fans' perspective, would understand having such unspeakable thoughts.  :P

You pay for what you get.  He throws Pennington to the curb to get Favre who he then names his son after.  I hope it was worth it.

EDIT: in other news:
Crennel and the Browns GM are both gone.

Lions coach fired, duh.

Yeah, the thing is, I've been yelling for him to, ahem, step aside, for A LONG TIME, but he might actually die soon, so I don't want to be spittin' on the man while he's on his way out...and I don't know his condition, he'll probably be up in the box for another 10 seasons with our luck, fuckin' Al Davis...and we do have him to thank for SO MUCH, for 3 Championships...but his leadership has lead us to the WORST SIX SEASON STRETCH IN NFL HISTORY! AND WE WERE IN THE FUCKIN' SUPER BOWL SEVEN SEASONS AGO!!! HOW THE FUCK DOES THAT HAPPEN?!?! IT'S BECAUSE OF INEPT, SEVERELY DATED MANAGEMENT!!!

Here's a good article on Al...I posted it in some other thread before, maybe even in this one, but fuck it. I think it's a great piece: http://www.oaklandish.org/TALES/davis/index.html

I'm sorry but you sound like and "after the fact" guy.  what would you be saying if he got you in the playoffs?  I'm not disputing that the media is hard on other QB's and not on Farve.   I'm a Giants fan...Eli took a beating while people were ready to appoint Romo king until last year.  I said above that he should not have made the probowl.  I think my friends are Jets fans plain and simple and they are not the only ones who liked this deal.  You bought Farve in, it was going to be a side show either way.  There was no indicating at all that Pennington was the guy this year based on his past few years.  Like I said there was no guarantee he would've been the starter.  Farve took his team to the NFC championship last year and went 13-3.  Say what you want but he played well and got them there.  As an organization stuff like that and  putting people in the seats is always a factor especially when the guy has won a superbowl and is a first ballot HOF'er.  I heard about 3 announcers make this same point yesterday.  You can make arguements either way and maybe that was your opinion before the season but I don't anyone who said "yeah Pennington is def the way to go this year".  If anything it was lets give Clemens a shot and nobody was that thrilled about that...and the Packers got what they wanted and where did it get them, no playoffs.

In other news, did y'all hear about Cadillac Williams' injury? You gotta feel bad for the guy. He was out all of last year and has only been back for the last 2-3 games or so and suffered an injury (in his OTHER knee) similar to the one that kept him out for so long. They're saying that this injury isn't as bad, but his status for next year is already unclear.

QuoteNo way Favre is on my top ten all-time list.  Sure he can make remarkable plays but they are in between dumb decisions that lead to big interceptions. That is a reason he's only won one Super Bowl and that Green Bay didn't want him back.  Remember the AFC Championship in Lambeau and the old man couldn't cut it?  I seem to remember it ending with a dumb interception.  I'm glad he's hearing the boo birds in NY!  No man deserves that much ass kissed!

I'd have to think about my all-time list...

I don't remember Farve ever playing in the AFC until this year.

Farve is in my top 10 ever.  I just love the way he plays the game and there is no denying how great a QB he was and the fact that he is still playing at this level is incredible.  Not to mention being the toughest QB ever.  Most QB's are lucky to win one Superbowl, just ask Dan Marino.

Bold:
Here's me hating on Favre in October and you defending him.  Do you still feel like "his level of play is incredible"?  Because I still feel the same way I did then.  So who's the "after the fact guy" now?  Ask anyone who knows me knows I've been saying Favre needs to retire consistently for the past 3 or 4 seasons.

I understand your other points, I'm just sick and tired of people defending Favre and have been for years.  The reason I'm so outspoken about it now is because it's prime time to be outspoken because even Cris Collinsworth is starting to say it's tie for Brett to hang em up.

And your hypothetical question is ridiculous. If I had wings I would fly, but I don't.  Obviously I wouldn't be so outspoken if they did make the playoffs but the fact remains: they didn't and it has a lot to do with BRETT FAVRE.   What would you be saying if they went 0-16: "well, it seemed like a good idea at the time"?   ::)

I stick by my statement above..you are taking it out of context.  I said his level of play (going to the NFC championship and 13-3 at his age) was incredible.  Sure now its easy to say the opposite.  Where did Chad take the Jets last year? based on their play last year I don't think it was that hard a decision for the Jets management to make this move this year, that was my point.  At mid-season a lot of people and the media were ready to put the Jets in the Superbowl so something had to be going right.  They fell apart at the end and I wouldn't say it was all Farves fault.  I'd say Mangini was as much to blame and I think that is why he got fired.   Farve also is not 100% and I don't think he has been all year so I think he will retire.

I'm sorry Chuckoo.  I actually bet my buddy a couple of bucks that they'd win at least one of their last two games. :-[

With a sense of humor, one must think that it requires and extraordinary amount of front office ineptitude to accomplish such an stupendous feat.  Mr. Ford and your underlings, you must be commended.  Matt Millen - seppukku anyone?

Pretty surprised Skeletor, ahem, I mean Mike Shanahan got fired today...His team did have a meltdown over the last month, and got blown out with the playoffs on the line, but did anyone actually think DEN had a better than .500 team this year?? And a better team than SD?? I know I didnt.

It was Skeletor's decision to move up for Cutler, and so far I think that has looked like a great pick and he has really progressed and looks to have a bright future. I would have at least given the 2 time super bowl winning coach at least another year or 2 to see what he could do with Cutler.

I know 1 thing Im happy about though, I wont have to deal with Shanny and his RB committee carousel for Fantasy Football anymore  ;D ;D ;D

I wonder where Cowher will end up? I'm glad he isn't going to Cleveland, although that would heat up the rivalry. I think there will be at least a couple more openings in the days to come.

Im sure the Jets will throw him money, and I know his 1 daughter goes to Princeton and I think the other one lives or goes to school somewhere in the NY/NJ/Mass area...

Plus, all NYJ really needs right now is a QB, and obviously Cowher did good most of his career with having Kordell, O'Donnell, and Maddox as his below average QBs on playoff caliber or better teams. TJones is getting up there in years, same with Coles, but they can be replaced over the next few years.

Jets wouldnt surprise me at all
