octoberfest

Looks like I'm headed to Octoberfest with absolutely no plans, my buddies booked my ticket w/out telling me. We are flying in the 17th and leaving the 26th. We are planning on hitting up the fest for a few days, then going to budapest and prague??. Apparently we are screwed on hotel rooms for munich and was wondering if anyone here knows a good close city/town that we could ride the train into/out of munich. Any other help would be great too as far as sights/travel/anything really.

Forget a hotel and stay at The Tent in Munich. I stayed there while backpacking Europe in 2004. Its Rad.

For a cheap alternative for North Americans, Kitchener, in southern Ontario, holds a famous Octoberfest. The city was founded by Germans and the area is crawling with their decendants.
