So I'm trying to build a portfolio of work that isn't from college projects.  I would love to design a logo, business card, any sort of corporate identity, tattoo (though I've never done that before), tee shirt, sticker, whatever for anybody here.  At this point its really about getting work into a portfolio so I am totally willing to do this for cheap/no cost at all.  Of course, if you were in the market and wanted to pay for the design I wouldn't complain.  ;)  Shoot me a PM if you need any help with any of this. Also, if anyone here is a graphic designer and has some tips for  me, I would love to hear them.

Oh, ya'll should check out my portfolio page- not much, but would love to hear some feedback (even if its critical)

Awesome.  Looks like a really fun job.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

This is my company's current logo:

This is the original design from 40 years ago and I have thought about updating it.  I have always backed off of the idea because I believe that it is already recognizable in our industry and new imagery would be like 'starting over' to the customer's eye.  What do you think about changing logos after such a long period of time?  I would be interested to see what you would come up with for an updated logo.

After 40 years it's difficult to change a logo.  however, it is not uncommon to tweak, or freshen up a logo (NFL logo, pepsi logo, hell xerox did a brand new logo) Sometimes logo's are timeless, it gives customers a sense of security, knowing a company has been around a long time.  On the other hand, it can make a company look dated (I don't think that's the case with your logo. I really like it)

If you'll allow me, I'd love to take a crack at refreshing the design.

Absolutely!  I would definitely like to see your 'refreshed' design.  I had even considered (not very seriously) changing the company name since the founder retired over two years ago, but I think that it would be a bad idea.  I also intend to give our website a makeover because I personally think that it's cheesy (I didn't design it).

The name should probably stay, and a good website is key.  I personally don't do websites (I've gotta re-learn everything but I know a guy who is really really good. If you are looking to get a new one built let me know and I can give you his info as well as pricing and what not.  He is already established so he doesn't need the portfolio help so much.

Hey AMC, have you ever read a book called Cheese Monkeys? It's fiction, pretty short, really fun book. It's about Graphic Art students.

Nice looking portfolio! Best of luck to you!

We've been looking to upgrade our boring logo as well but I'm not sure I can get my cheapo boss to spend any money on it.
