I believe the only way I can see the series is on DVD (I'm not American). I don't think Canada's Comedy Channel carries the show. Anyway, I don't think it's necessary to watch a series before the movie. A film should stand on it's own, like Serenity.

i dont want to argue but thats bullshit, films that extend from a series shouldnt 'stand alone' because they would be nothing without the series as a basis. thats a really insane thing to say, i can understand someone saying "i dont think i need to read the book to get the movie" but this is lame. Saying something like "I shouldnt have to know anything about the director" would be reasonable even, but i dont see why someone would go see a movie like this without any prior involvement with the series. itd look absurd if i wasnt familiar.

THE MOVIE ISN'T FUNNY no matter if I saw the series or not. I was loosely aware of the series before I rented the DVD. Actually, the film does a good job of spelling out the plot and developing the main characters. I didn't even laugh at Colbert's scenes and he's one of my favourite satirists.

Movies based on series should stand alone or act as an introduction and/or continuation of a series. You don't have to watch TV's Southpark or Beavis & Butthead to enjoy their films. In fact you could 'get' or enjoy countless films without being overly familiar with the series from which they spawned... including Spawn. Same with comic book adaptations, although I've rarely found comic-book film adaptations good.

the tv show (strangers with candy)  is funny as hell. if its just a longer episode thats even better, but i'll have to see it before i can really say anything about it.  when the show was on comedy central i didn't like it. then i came home drunk one night and it was on at like 3 in the morning and it was funny. i bought the complete series, and was glad i did.

Fistly that statement helps you in no way.  If its a continuation the shouldnt you have seen the series. And are you into film at all man? If you were you wouldnt  be throwing around all these standards and prerequisites for a film. I only think its logical and respectful. Not required, just logical..................and respectful.

Imagine producers, marketers and film distributers having a mindset like yours: " Hey, don't watch this film until you see the series". Most films would lose money with that attitute. A lot of film-goers aren't intimate with the TV series on which the movie is based. If a film is good, it shouldn't matter. I find this similar with movies based on comic books or graphic novels. I haven't liked too many "comic book" adaptations, although Sin City and Hellboy stood out because they stood on their merits as good films. Am I a film fan? I had dinner with Eva Marie Saint. Look her up.

Youre right man, ingesting food alongside an actress does give you a oneup on me and does make you quite the film afficianado, moreso than i am. was she in your grandmas bridge club or something? I love knowing more about film than self proclaimed 'film buffs'. I wont argue this anymore, because its going nowhere and I think you are misunderstanding me. I dont think it is wrong to see a tv based film without seeing the show it is based on but i do think it is wrong to totally dismiss the show entirely(which im not sure if you are or arent doing). It just kinda urks me when people set standards for a film, because they act like they are set in stone but they arent. Like you could end up watching the show and like it, then go back to the movie and like the movie more. Who knows? I just dont like when people say stuff like "A film should stand alone!" because, really, whose to say? blah blah blah

I think you read me wrong. Of course it helps in the enjoyment factor to know a series going into the film adaptation, but it can't be the be all and end all. I've never seen The Trailer Park Boys TV series but will watch the movie when it comes out on DVD. Hopefully that'll whet my appetite. My only point being with Eva Marie Saint is that I was darn lucky to have dinner with an Oscar winner, someone who worked with Brando, Kazan and Hitchcock amongst many others. Fascinating woman and one of the classiest actresses of all time.

I sure hope if (and when!) the Arrested Development movie comes out it won't pander to the non-AD crowd.  I'm sure it won't if Mitch Hurwitz has any say, which he obviously will.

Anyways, I HAVE to start watching the Wire.  Everywhere I turn I'm reading about how it's the best show ever.  Just look at the metacritic for it's fourth season.  I've never seen a score so high.

good good good move red, Ive seen every episode of the Wire and am here to tell you, it is amazing. The fourth seen is pretty much one of the best things i have ever seen. Run, dont walk!

Mr. T.

I recently saw something on MTV (I think) called "Carter's House". It had that Carter guy just sitting at a table and ranting along about nothing, while rolling his eyes like a madman for about 30 minutes straight.  :(

Worst. Show. EVER!

I couldn't even laught at the whole thing...  DAMN, I'm still horrified thinking about the whole experience

:'(

Edit: It's actually called "The House of Carters". (It doesn't make it any better though)

Anybody ever watch Grounded for Life?  Its hysterical.  Its on the ABC family channel.  Though they moved it from weekdays at 3 to weekends at 10am.

Highly recommend, a real sleeper.
