QuoteAlso on the bummer list, though not because the government's an asshole: I'll be spending Christmas alone.

What do you even do with Christmas day all to yourself in a town where all your friends have gone home for the holidays? Spike your own eggnog? Wrap empty boxes for under the Christmas Tree to make it look like you've got something good? Eat Santa's milk and cookies by yourself?

I'm trying to figure something out just so it doesn't have to be the most depressing holiday in the world to spend alone. Damn Borders is suckin' my travel abilities away, though.
You can't spend Christmas alone Tom! Where are your folks? How far away from them are you?

I've spent a few Christmases by myself but I was holiday so it was fun. Christmas by yourself (not by choice) has got to suck!

Whatever you do, make sure you get to a bar or restaurant & have yourself a Christmas dinner or something...
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

My dad lives about 5 hours away and my mom is 13 hours away. I'm sort of grounded in at work, though, but I'm going to promise them my hardest work before Christmas Day in exchange for a week off after the 26th so that I can go and celebrate a little late. Hopefully they'll work with me.

I'm sure everyone wants the holiday off, but they've got me working a half-hour shy of full-time status (full-time status meaning you get to take vacation. part-time you have to find someone to cover your shifts) so hopefully they'll work with me. I figure if I promise them my best (and they know me as a damn good seller), they'll help me out. It'd be awesome if i can get them to give me the week of Christmas off, but I think they'll probably need me too bad during then to be able to, and I'm okay with that if we can negotiate some time. It's just the fact that everyone is going to want time off or to be able to go home right during then. I think I offer them my work through the big day, they will hopefully be grateful enough for my sacrifice to return the favor. I'll need to start showing up on time on Saturday mornings though...

Tell you what Tom...take the fact that I know you here out of the equation for a minute - I bet 100% that you could sell me a book!
There's a real warmth to you friend & it shines through in every one of your posts & photos! & that beard?!! Shit, you could probably sell me a Jackie Collins novel on the strength of your face furniture alone!

Hope things work out for the holidays  :)

Haha, why thank you.

I've also learned that, while sorority girls are already suckers for the "buy a book for the little dude spending Christmas in the hospital" book drive, I have some added virility on such book drives. In just two days (that's, ah, 10.5 hours behind a register), I've already sold 74 of those suckers. I ought to come close to 400 myself by the time we're done with this promotion, and the goal for the entire store is 1000. They might have to promote me based on book drive accomplishments alone...

Haha, shall I just go ahead and add the single hour of sleep I'm about to get before class and an 8 hour work day "tomorrow" to the top of the current complaints? Nothin' trumps my Christmas, but this'll make for an amusingly long Friday. Bring on the beer in about 12 hours. Good Lord.

I'm no stranger to long days and I've discovered that sitting down with a good beer at the end of it feels so incredibly good.  Good luck!

I didn't think it was possible to hate my job anymore thn I normally do, but fuck me sideways, today sucked beyond believe. I'm glad I didn't have a heart or blood pressure moniter on as it probably would have broke. My BP had to be well over 200. Fingers were tingly, my eyes were burning, and I might have been slightly dizzy. That can't be good for me, right? I don't even feel like drinking. That's bad.

Just got the set times for our show tomorrow and we're playing 3 hours earlier than we were asked to play and for half as long.

I work with this woman (my age - about 26) who frequently makes comments about what I'm eating/drinking when she walks by my cube. If I have two cups of tea sitting there it's: 'Wow!! Thirsty?!?!' If I'm eating something at 10:15 it's: 'Hey there...little early for lunch?!!' Also, she likes to wrinkle her nose and say, 'What's that??' as she points to my plate.

One of these days she's going to lean her head into my cube and see this coming at her:

I'm not a violent person, honestly.

My bum knee is buggin me really bad. It actually has been since this spring but it's now to the point that doing any cardio work is excruciating, I've actualy stumbled walking down stairs recently (that might be the booze or old age  :-/), and I cannot sit/stand on my knees. Going to the Doctor Saturday morning. I really hope it's not another surgery. This would be the 2nd in the last 3 years.

what's the status on this now? Sounded like the whole city was in some pretty deep shit a few hours ago. Hand grenades from the top of the Taj?

My company, CTV (Canada's #2 TV network), is laying-off over 100 Toronto-based broadcasters. I found this out today. I think I'll be ok (I don't know for sure though), but Scrooge is certainly alive and well.

I've been wracking my brain for the past 24 hours trying to remember the lyrical idea I had imagined putting over a theme I've been working with. Thing is, I'm almost certain I had it come to me in a moment of clarity, but it could have very well been inside a dream. And now I don't know if it's actually there to find in my memory or if it's a challenge posed inside a dream. Either way, the idea needs to be made reality, just frustrating to have absolutely no idea where it came from, and if it's hiding somewhere back through my pages and pages of lyrics and journals or whether it's yet to be written. Freaking Twilight Zone.
