I can agree with that.  I'll add though that there are some decent people out there who don't really make good first impressions.  So if a guy asks you out and you think he's nice but not your type, give him half a chance :)

Hey cheer up. There's lots of good guys out there. I waited a long time - and I mean a very long time -  to find the right girl and I did not date around. Maybe I have good foresight. It just kind of happened. My advice is maybe you should look for a shy guy (which is what I used to be). And hey, if I wasn't living in a different country, recently married and ten years younger, I'd ask you out.

Last place I worked at had an interesting process.  The employees had to rate themselves in various areas/skills ahead of the review with their boss.  The actual performance review was then based on the employee's own perception of their work, and any differences between that and the boss' opinion.

Made for a lively discussion, and an occasional "full and frank exchange of views" (ie a big barney)...

Yes!  They kinda do that here--I solicit the employees to rate themselves on their performance against the various goals in their performance plans.  Lemme tell ya there are some less-than-creative writers in this bunch--one guy wrote: "I feel like I have met all my goals this year."  Riveting stuff. ::)

As long as you got that paper man, that's all that matters. I had a cumulative 2.5 after school but my courses pertainiing to my field I had a 3.8 or so. That's all they looked at and I don't think it even matters in most jobs... just stick with it!
