QuoteI can't bear to watch the Zednik footage. I know I'll see it tonight on TSN or during the Raptors half-time show.
TSN didn't show the graphic part last night, I caught that on the CBC.  Really wish I didn't.

I heard he actually severed his carotid artery and they had to perform 'life-saving' surgery on him. holy hell that was awful. they actually showed the graphic replay on the morning news here in Chicago without even prefacing the clip with a warning. I almost lost my breakfast. yech. hopefully he makes a full recovery...

And then last night Edmonton captain Ethan Moreau gets a skate blade slash right beside his eye... and the tough S.O.B. missed only a few shifts and played without a visor

Indeed he did. Makes me like Gaborik even less.

For all NHL fans that for some reason, forgot today is Trade Deadline Day, you better find a sports channel ASAP, or a website like TSN or ESPN. Today has been wild. R.I.P. Blue Jackets.

As much as I love Kolzig, I'm glad my Caps picked up Huet.

My Habs friend is going nuts right now. The deal doesn't make any sense for Montreal, especially because of the way their season has been going.

He hates players like Ray Bourque and the rent-a-player philosophy. He loves Toronto, as do the 4 other Leafs that wouldn't waive their no-trade contracts. People aren't mad at Sundin in Toronto, but they aren't too pleased with Tucker, McCabe, Kaberle and Kubina.

I'm too damed "Old Time Hockey" and Canadian to jump up and cheer for a European (especially a Russian) unless they play a style of hockey I like. Strictly finesse players don't normally do it for me, especially big finesse players like Jagr and Zetterberg. You gotta have some sandpaper in your game to get my attention. Malkin pissed me off last year at the World Junior Championships, so he has a way to go to get into my good books.

So what do you think of Malkin now? He's played brilliantly with the absence of Crosby. The trade for Hossa was huge. Your thoughts on him and Gill?

That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

joey_rogo

trade day went by without the rangers doing anything that can be called stupid. Al Montoya is a good goalie, but the rags already have some good goalies around so drawing some good players for Al is ok with me.

my thoughts on sundin..... ok yeah... you hate rental players and such... yeah thats loyal and such blah blah blah... but you totally just screwed your franchise and fans. the fans might like you... but sundin is worth a shit ton and the leafs could have gotten some good guys for you... that franchise wont win another cup till im dead im sure. you lost kilger, gill (the fuckin man!!), and belak for a bunch of unproven draft picks.... yeah toronto def came out on the losing end.

hossa to the pengins is awesome for the pengins (yes, there is a 'u' in penguins, but it is much more fun to say it without the u, just ask cartman.) that team is full of talent, good for them.

brian campell, or campbell, i dont how to spell his name, but either way, i think he is HUGELY overrated, and even tho i hate the sabres... good job you got rid of that guy. anyone who lives in this area is probably sick of those vein treatment center commercials anyways. i mean, cmon, that was the best thing hes done for buffalo.

and huet... yeah, montreal wtf, you guys lose. huet, from what ive seen, is pretty solid. good job being stupid and good job caps. washington needs more good players to support the best defensemen ever, tom poti. congrats washington and tom poti, things are looking better for you.

and as a closing note, why are chris simon and jesse boulerice back in the league??? are there not better players out there? these guys suck and just cause trouble.. dont get me wrong, i love fights, but these guys are just rude. bring up some ahl dudes instead of playing these losers.

peace out all.
here's to jason strudwick's new 'stache!

I never said Malkin wasn't talented, I just don't like him. The Hossa trade was huge and not a good one in the long-run for Pitt. Hossa is traditionally a playoff bust and the guys Pitt traded away, in particular Colby Armstrong, will come back to haunt them in the near future. Armstrong is Crosby's best friend and he helps keep Syd's head on straight, not to mention he's young and tough. Gill is a 5th or 6th defenseman, nothing more. He's solid and pretty physical. No big loss for the Leafs.

I agree with the arguement regarding Sundin, but he's not the one that screwed the Leafs: that guy was John Ferguson Jr. and his no-trade contracts. Kilger, Gill and especially Belak are all role players and nothing more.

That trade looks good today, but when Hossa gets no points in the playoffs and plays soft as is his tradition on both counts, then Pitt. will regret dealing away so much young talent. The key to the deal for Atlanta was getting prospect Angelo Esposito.

He's rated about right. He'll be on Team Canada for the Vancouver Olympics and he's one of the better puck-moving defensemen in the league.

Simon was actually once one of the better or even the best "enforcers with talent" in the league. He's still loved by GM's and his teammates and has good hands. His anger has unfortunately got the better of him and he needs help. Boulerice was a solid Junior A player, but he shouldn't be in the league.

I bet you'd like Malkin if he played for the Leafs ;)
But as far as the trade went, Armstrong and Christiansen didn't produce much. Esposito is a center and we're already loaded with young, talented centers.

Don't forget that Esposito is only 19 and when he's ready, will be a very good NHLer. He's one of the best 19 year-old prospects in the world. Don't be surprised if he makes an impact on the Thrashers next year - predictions were that he would make the Pens next year or the year after. Armstrong's game is not to produce points as much as it is to add a good defensive presence and be a physical player. He's good at both and he's a good character guy. Another key is that Hossa is a dog in the playoffs. He was brutal in the playoffs on a loaded Ottawa for 5 years. He was one of the reasons why the Senators made early round exits.

BTW, I was never raised as a Leaf fan. I'm more of a fan of hockey, although I was a die-hard Bruins fan for most of youth. I still like them.
