QuoteThis season is slipping away fast and they really can't so anything about it. If they bring back Avery that will probably be it because as I've said before the cap is so screwed up! I'm now convinced the Rangers will NEVER win as long as Slats is GM.  Another annoying thing about him is that he is the only NYC area sports GM who will never be interviewed on radio or tv locally! He never has to answer questions about his horrible team! What a joke!

At least pitchers and catchers started this weekend, Let's Go Mets!

He's rarely done interviews dating back to his Oilers days.

I don't think many of the problems with the Rangers are his fault. The players are either young and still developing or older and not playing to their potential. Of course this means the coach will be fired. I think the Rangers also lack an in-your-face leader.

Everyone else including Lamoriello will go on the radio and talk about his team, but not Glen. He did do a lot radio interviews when he first took over but stopped when he got mad at the questions.  The only reason he still has a job is that Dolan loves him and doesn't really care how the Rangers/Knicks do because they are such a small part of the Cablevision Empire!

Going into the season, I thought NYR had gotten much worse after losing Jagr, Shanahan, and Avery (and maybe someone else Im forgetting) and then reloading with Redden, Zherdev, and Naslund. Ugh.

I couldnt believe how good they started off. They probably playing below their level at the moment, but I dont think their 1 of the best handful of teams in the East so where theyre at now is basically where they should be.

Word is Jagr is coming back to the NHL. I wonder if the Rangers will take another run at him?

Whenever they were talking about this last week with Edmonton, I heard based on his contract and something else, there is no way he plays in the NHL in 08-09, so I assume you mean next season?

2 great games so far today too in SJ/NJ and WAS/FLA.

Im confident Florida with stay in the top 8 and make the playoffs

Who knows? It's not as if the KHL is on the up-and-up.

I think they'll make the playoffs, but some lucky team will get Jay Bouwmeester by the trade deadline.

I dont understand why everyone thinks theyll trade him, or they do trade. Why would you do that if not only youre in playoff contention, but if the season ended today you would be in the playoffs??

They wont get his value in return, or at least wont if they get someone in return who they would consider re-signing.

It's known that Bouwmeester will most likely not re-sign with Florida.

The Panthers will get some value back in a trade. They'd be fools to keep him and then get nothing for him when they get beat out by the Bruins in the first round.

son of a donkey puncher...do we ever suck...at least Therrien got fired, that needed to happen if this team has any chance for the playoffs this year. Im not all that concerned with this year, but Therrien clearly wasnt the long term answer for this team.

and Crosby's shootout attempt was pathetic. The backhand was wide open and he tries to squeeze it in on the forehand.

Fleury has got to be 1 of the worst shootout goalies in the NHL

great bunch of games this weekend that was capped off by maybe the most exhiliarating and surprising - Thrashers vs. Kings.

ATL jumps out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first period and my thinking of starting out my fantasy week with Jon Quick hits rock bottom with his 57% save pct when he gets pulled ( and I dont even know what 3 GAA = after 10 minutes, like 23.2 GAA..if so, my crappy team is even further down the shitter this week).

The 3rd period is when I really started watching. Kings just stormed back and Im surprised they didnt win in regulation - eventhough they only got the tying goal with 5 seconds left. Seemed like every shift was spent in the ATL zone.

Which brings us to OT. Kopitar made Moose Hedberg look retarded on his goal, Kovalchuk misses the net on his chance for the win, and then it makes it back to ex-Penguin Erik Christiansen....

..before he even starts his sequence, I say out loud (by myself) here comes the game winner - and what do you know, he scores.

EC is nasty on shootouts and I dont know why he wasnt in their initial top 3 instead of sudden death for the shootout. When he was with the Pens, he was almost always the first shooter and brilliant. He scored something like 80% on them in 06-07 - ridiculous.

I wanted to separate this post because I think its an interesting point for shootouts.

I was just talking about Christensen (who was part of us getting Hossa in that trade last year) is nasty on shootouts, and really the Pens are terrible at them. And by terrible, I mean beyond it bc he was our best guy, and Fleury is not good at defending them at all.

What I just realized though, is that the key for shootouts is wingers with quick hands and accuracy, or a sniper with similar capabilities. I dont see enough shootouts to know how every other team looks, but Crosby and Malkin are terrible at shootouts yet are both in the Top 5 in scoring in the league.

I think this is typical for most centers although goal scorers like Lecavalier probably buck the trend, but it seems to me that the best guys in shootouts are wingers with great moves and quick hands

my 2 cents

This Canucks-Flames game is pretty damn good.

Rene Bourque just scored the go ahead goal for Calgary with 13 minutes left in the 3rd.

Both Kippur and Luongo have made some crazy saves so far, including Miika making one to give the Flames the 2-on-1 where Bourque got the goal

Hah, not 10 minutes later than my last post and I think Kipprusoff just made THE SICKEST save Ive ever seen.

Hopefully someone youtube's it or something

It'll be on every highlight reel pack.

BTW, if you can, always try to watch Calgary play. They have the meanest defense I've ever seen and the entire team plays hard and aggressive.

So you saw that stick save then?!? UnBeFuckinLievable, 1 of the best Iver ever seen  :D

Going to the Rangers/Islanders game tonight. I have a feeling I'm going to see the final nails in the coffin, both for the 2008-2009 season and for Tom Renney!
