QuoteHey Haldon, great shots!! The 2nd to the last pic (the close-up of the aspens) looks like a giant EYE on the one.... Ent-style I say  :) Man I'd like to get back to Colorado again and actually camp the f out!! Til then I live vicariously through great shots like these!!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

The trees really were magnificent.  Living in the urban sprawl of Fort Lauderdale/Miami, I really don't get out into nature often, so this vacation was a real treat.
We literally spent multiple days and multiple hours just wandering through those aspen trees.  Lots of the trees have those EYE style markings on them, and its just a really neat scene.

While I love the excitement and energy of living in South Florida, after taking a trip like this, it really makes me jealous of those who get to live in more relaxed and scenic places.

Haldon seeing your pics makes me a little disappointed I didn't hear from you. Next time hit a sister up! And for any of the rest of you that think you can come out here and not get some soulshine in your life, I wont be so nice!  :P
Because we're all in this together...

No sword here, but one of the perks of teaching is free school pictures every year.  Here's my latest...

Mr. Y the Science Guy

Also, my daugters (Katherine, Madeline, and Lauren) and some friends (Hope and Fayth) tagged our new driveway pretty good, including this family portrait, complete with our cat Stormie, though I believe they mis-labeled me and my wife.

Then we have commentary on music (JB=Justin Bieber; cut off on top "My Dad hates JB") and my wife's crush on Tom Terrific.

Then, of course, my contribution

And, finally, a message for us all...
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Sittin' here with me and mine.  All wrapped up in a bottle of wine.

Rafting the Upper Gauley.  This rapid is called "Pillow Rock."  Can't really see my face, but I'm on the left side of the raft with my head turned, looking at the huge rock we're zooming past and holding on for dear life!

We could.

mjkoehler

That's up there with the pic of Mark rafting the Fecalator River. Take one look at and you shit yourself.

jones

Nice, Hawkeye.  The Upper Gauley is pretty awesome.  I would love to go back.  Pure adrenaline.  Did all of you stay in the raft?!

Also, did you check out the New River Gorge Bridge?

Yeah, we all stayed in the raft!  I was NOT going to fall out.  I have a bit of a fear of water...I know, I know, whitewater rafting is not the best activity for someone afraid of water...but it was fun!  I was just glad that it wasn't class V rapids the entire way.  We had 5 class V's on the stretch of river we went down, with some nice breaks in between.  We actually had the most trouble on a class III.  We had to enter the rapid between two large rocks and we hit the hole sideways instead of straight-on.  We didn't fit through and the raft started to fold up and threw all of us into the middle of the raft.  Still not quire sure how we got out of that one!  All of the class V rapids were a bit hairy tho!  Definitely not for the timid, but if you listen to you're guide, you're probably going to be fine.  I personally saw 3 rafts flip that day.  The guy I sat next to on the bus ride back to camp said his raft flipped 3 times.  Glad we didn't do that.  I'm sore enough as it is.

I did check out the bridge...pretty impressive!  There was a picture in the visitors' center of the bridge that was pretty awesome.  It was a time-elapsed picture taken over night so it created this effect of stars swirling over the bridge.

We could.

Yeah, when they start talking about getting your leg caught in an undercut rock and that if you're lucky that your leg will break to free you, you definitely realize that staying in the raft is pretty important.

That is an awesome photo.
