A pleasant and amusing surprise this evening.  Not too shabby.  Fun label.

Went to the distributor yesterday to get a case of pumpkin ale, was hoping for Southern Tier's Pumking as Ive heard a lot of good things and never had it. Not only do they not have it, they have no pumpkin ales at all! And it wasnt where I went to, because they have the best selection Ive ever seen. I cant believe pumpkin ales are out of season in mid-October  >:(

Anyway, I got a case of Great Lakes Holy Moses White Ale because it was limited and they only had 2 cases left. Its decent, but I wouldnt recommend it. It really doesnt taste like a white ale either, much lighter, and thats why I got it in the first place because Im typically a big fan of white ales.

I'm a big Holy Moses fan, but it's definitely more enjoyable and refreshing on a hot summer day.

As for Pumpkin Ales, I have tried O'Fallon's for the first time this fall and it was OK.  New Holland's Ichabod is my favorite pumpkin ale,  though I might have to look for some of that Southern Tier and give it a try.

My wife got me a sixer of Abita's Pecan Harvest which I had never tried before and it is a very nice fall seasonal.  Definitely tastes like fall to me.

I've also been enjoying some Founders Centennial IPA.  mmmmm... good.

Pumking is the jam but my personal favorite is Lakefront Pumpkin.  Nice and spicy.

And yeah, they start coming out mid-September so you really gotta be on your toes.

Really I was more disappointed because the Holy Moses wasnt what I was expecting more than I didnt like it. If I didnt know it, I wouldnt think its a White Ale. Plus in PA you pretty much have to buy a whole case so I have 18 of them left.

I know what my next case is though, Great Lakes Nosferatu. Only reason I didnt buy it the other day is because they said theyd have it another few weeks and its $55 a case. Love that stuff, probably the only non-belgian I pay more than $40 for a case for.

I got a Founder's Variety case a few months back. Liked the Centennial IPA a lot, highly recommend the Red's Rye PA. The Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale was also good, and I cant stand Sam Adams Scotch Ale. Didnt really like the Founder's Porter, but thats usually how most Variety packs go.

Sadly, maybe even nerdly, I've started creating little Outlook reminders for seasonal beers...already devising a plan to get some HopSlam next year.

LOL!  Great Lakes Christmas Ale is the only seasonal that flies off the shelf around these parts.  Last year, I had to put my freaking name on a list to reserve a case from each week's shipment at my local beer store?!   :D  I believe they start rolling out the barrels of that shit at the end of this month from what I've been told...

Red's Rye is good indeed as is Dirty Bastard even though I'm not a huge fan of Scotch Ales for the most part and I'm not a big Porter fan either.

Man, where are you finding cases of that?  I guess you're in Ohio, but damn.  We can only get 4-packs and those are pretty hard to come by.

Pittsburgh, and like I said the place has great selection and outside of places where you can by singles and mixed 6 packs, in Pennsylvania you basically have to buy beer by the case. They probably had 15 cases of it and said they should still be getting it into November.

No pumpkins though!  :D

No shit they do.  I went to college in PA and had no idea about how crazy their beer laws were as being from Ohio, I'm used to being able to walk into any convenient store and buy beer.  So, my first weekend at college, a couple of buddies of mine (also from Ohio) take off to make a beer run and we're stopping at gas stations, grocery stores, and NOTHING.  No freaking beer and we were all like what the fuck is up with this state?  Finally someone told us the only place to buy beer is at beer distributors.  They led us to a freaking supermarket full of beer called Beer4Less.  As annoying as it was, I have to say, Beer4Less was one of the coolest stores I've ever been to!   :D

My Hopslam reminder is set for December 1...not sure on the actual release date, but I am following them on Twitter and probably FB too...don't want to miss out again.

I just had it for the first time over Halloween...thought it was appropriate.  We've got it here in Marietta!
We could.

Got my first Christmas Ales of the season.  Got me a case of Great Lakes on Wednesday and, as I said, that shit is flying off the shelves.  The grocery store where I got it on Wednesday is already freaking sold out of their first shipment which was probably 30-40 cases judging by their display.

I also got a sixer of Bells Christmas Ale.  I haven't tried that one yet so I'm anxious to try it out!

Tis the season to be jolly....

Yeah, Christmas brews are starting to show up. Saw GI's at the store near my office. Almost picked it up but didn't as I was there for 1 specific thing. I do have some of Shiner Holiday Cheer...which is outstanding.
