QuoteAtonement - absolutely amazing! Would be my film of the year if it wasn't for This Is England.
+ Charlie Wilson's War, Juno, Walk Hard, Enchantment & I Am Legend.

Also bought Knocked Up & Superbad, both of which I can't wait to watch.

Haven't seen any of those except Knocked Up and Superbad. I want to see This Is England. Favorites this year: Into The Wild, No Country For Old Men, Knocked Up, Superbad.

EDIT: saw Walk Hard too
The other ones I mentioned aren't my best of the year, just ones I saw in Hawaii.

Charlie Wilson was very good. Juno was sweet, Walk Hard was better than I thought it was going to be, Enchantment was fun & I Am Legend was OK but could have been much better.

I just ordered Into The Wild on DVD. I was hoping to see that & No Country For Old Men but they weren't showing anywhere near where I was staying.
Speaking of Coen brother's movies this is a great deal!

(Fargo, Miller's Crossing, Barton Fink, Raising Arizona & Blood Simple down from $50 to $25!!!)

What did you think of Walk Hard True?
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I found it funny, kinda stupid at times but wasn't disappointed. That scene with the dude's package has to be the most extreme shot in a movie thats not porn.
That Coen Brothers set is a great deal, i'd get it if i didn't already own those separately.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Dude,I thought the original was a documentary. ;D
The fact that my hearts beating
is all the proof you need

Knocked Up - very funny. Seth Rogen & his friends were hilarious (particularly Jonah Hill) but I found Katherine Heigl & her sister's character so unlikeable that I they really started to annoy me towards the end.

Killer of Sheep
A 1977 film about the Watts ghetto in LA. as experienced by a slaughterhouse worker. It was made for under $10,000, and has just been restored/released internationally. The conversations (both spoken and felt) were so genuine. I appreciated how unsentimentally the story was told, which made it even more moving and poignant. Only thing that bugged me was the sound was very uneven, to the point where it could have employed subtitles (doesn't help that I am growing increasingly hard of hearing).

Everyone has a photographic memory. Some don't have film.

Hey Collen! I bought this on DVD last month & saw it a week or so before Christmas. I was absolutely blown away! The DVD release also has Charles Burnett's follow up movie My Brothers Wedding, I'm looking forward to watching that...

Hey, Andrew! Thanks for mentioning the other movie. Hadn't heard about it, but will see if I can track it down.

The DVD is a 2 disc set with 3 or 4 shorts too. It's a little pricey but it's a good package.

I agree that subtitles would have been a good thing, I struggled with the dialog a little at times.

I've been chasing up songs from the soundtrack since (Paul Robeson, Elmore James, Slim Harpo etc)
I loved the way they used Dinah Washington's This Bitter Earth, one of my fav songs of all time.

Thanks for the link. It's on my wishlist now. That song was a perfect match for the tone of the movie and all of the sad and beautiful things about being human that were addressed. The most heartbreaking part for me was when that song was playing as the sheep were lead to slaughter (the symbolic implications of sheep in this context being particularly significant).

I loved the scene where the children played in the street Paul Robeson's The House I Live In grew in the background. The film was so simple & yet so moving. I want to watch it again now  ;D

There Will Be Blood   :o  Nothing like P.T. Anderson has ever done. Day-Lewis gets the Oscar.

Eastern Promise - excellent all the way, and I love the Casablanca non-Hollywood ending.

bearass

It's not a surprise ending and I didn't ruin it for you. It's just not Hollywood. The amazing and moving film "Once" doesn't have a Hollywood ending either, and that knowledge won't ruin the film.

bearass

i wasnt talking about the ending sorry for the confusion
