QuoteI still haven't seen this.  Where did the past few months go?  I think I'll buy it at the weekend.
If you don't own them already Mark, I would seriously consider the boxset with This Is England, Dead Man's Shoes, Room For Romeo Brass & 24/7:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shane-Meadows-Collection-Twenty-England/dp/B000RWDY5O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1200663909&sr=1-1

Thanks, db, I've just followed your link and ordered the boxset.  It should distract me from the awful, dark, pissy weather we're currently enjoying in blighty.

Saw it last night.  Not a good movie at all.  Very, very average at best.

Saw No Country For Old Men yesterday afternoon.  After all the hype I was slightly disappointed.  IMHO Three Burials is a better film.

That being said, the individual performances were excellent.  My enjoyment was marred by the fact that our local multiplex seems incapable of projecting a film IN FOCUS.  >:(

3:10 to Yuma, I liked it.  Russel Crows righthand man was awesome, I think he was in "Alpha Dog" and he was badass in that as well.  I thought it was a great story and it was nice to see a Western for a change.  I love that time period.

"What is this, some sort of....Posse?"  He was conjuring up some Val Kilmar shit on that one.

I want to see a shooting game like "Doom/Halo" set in the Wild West.  I want to fight inside saloons with six shooters, but be able to unlock Ak's and hand grenades.

The Host - a great eco-monster movie from Korea from a year ago. It's funny, a little scary and one hell of a good ride.

The Set-Up (1949) - A great Robert Wise film starring Robert Ryan. This  film, showing the corruption of small-time boxers with their links to organized crime, was a big inspiration for Raging Bull. Wise is one of the best American directors of all time.

i tell people to watch the host after cloverfield so they see a good monster movie

THERE WILL BE BLOOD

EXCELLENT!!!

Mr. Brooks - a decent murder/thriller flick. A little campy, but its still creepy enough to recommend, especially because Kostner and William Hurt are really good in their roles.

Just got Once, Eastern Promises & Eagle Vs Shark in the mail!  :D
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I'll vouch for Once and Eastern Promises being excellent films. Make sure to crank up Once. The music performances are utterly powerful and emotional. Eastern Promises is better all-round than Cronenberg's previous film, A History of Violence.

I enjoyed A History Of Violence but was a little disappointed, maybe because I had read so many good things about it beforehand.
That's one of the problems I find with getting movies so late here, by the time I get round to watching them my expectations are so high that I'm inevitably disappointed sometimes. Take No Country For Old Men for example, I want to see it so badly but fear that I will ultimately be disappointed because I'm expecting too much.

I really liked A History of Violence, but Eastern Promises is a comparable film given Viggo's involvement, the gangster themes and Cronenberg as director. I think the performances in Eastern Promises are stonger and the storyline (including the ending) means more.

I've also seen Once and Eagle Vs. Shark recently. I enjoyed Once but wasn't what I expected. I thought there'd be more of a romance but it never really got going. In that sense its more of an honest film to me. That kind of makes it that much more depressing to me though, having been through similar bullshit. Music was great though.
Eagle Vs. Shark was good and yet depressing too at the same time. I've read comparisons to Napoleon Dynamite, witch there are. The difference is Napoleon was a guy you wanted to root for. Jemaine Clements' character Jarrod, was just sort of a jerk. Didn't expect it to be more about Lilly's perspective though. There was a "Jarrod" (mixed with a bit of Napoleon) in my school. Its funny that theres movies about these kind of people. i'm picturing every school with one of these characters?
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

The movie was really romantic, but not in a conventional sense. I never once thought it was depressing. You are the only person or reviewer that I've heard say that it was depressing. In fact, the film was uplifting since it shows how music can connect with like-minded strangers, bringing with it a spiritual friendship that is far deeper and more meaningful than a physical relationship. The ending was fantastic.

maybe depressing isn't the word. i did really like the film. but if your a hopeless romantic, it certainly doesn't give you much encouragement.
